MSI has one that's very much like the sony duo11 it looks http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget....1351207778.jpg Hands-on with MSI's S20 Slidebook Windows 8 convertible Ultrabook (update: video) -- Engadget the only thing different it seems is how the top opens (actually seems better than how the sony lid works) |
^ These have one huge advantage over the Surface - you can actually use it like a laptop (meaning you can put it on your lap). As cool as the Surface keyboard/cover is, it still requires space on a desk/table to work and room behind for the kickstand. That means it's useless on the train, bus, airplane or even in most university lecture halls that think giving you a big armrest qualifies as a desk. That said, in a Best Buy filled with $500 laptops, are people going to plunk down over $1,100 for an MSI laptop/tablet? |
the hardware specs for something like the msi or sony duo11 equate to about a $1000 laptop and these are thinner and work like a tablet too that's why i ordered one and going to get rid of my laptop :) |
^ So what do you actually expect to do with it in tablet mode? Which software will you be running that uses the tablet that will be better than laptop mode? Posted via RS Mobile |
nothing particular in mind; i've no real use for a tablet but i just like that i can get more "comfy" with a tablet or "tablet mode" so i suppose i would just browse the net on the bed or youtube/hulu/reading manga, comics and anything that may come out in the future its really just an added benefit; i was headed for getting an ultrabook over my current gaming laptop (since i dont game anymore) and a "convertible" (as they seem to be calling it) is more appealing hell being an apple fanboy im surprised you'd ask that considering the redundant, useless, iProducts that millions flock to replace with a newer edition :) i just want it :D |
Just got Windows 8 pro for $16.95. Will be installing on a Asus AIO with a touch screen. |

I hope they have student deals |
^^^^ its $14+ if you bought a laptop/computer within a years time; else its $40 to upgrade If you got Win 8 Pro make sure you go here and get Media Centre for free Add features - Microsoft Windows (its free until January) |
If you've purchased your laptop/computer from June 2012 - Jan 2013 without win8 pre-installed you can upgrade to Win 8 for $14 by going to this website http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ and entering your information and you get a promo code which will discount your purchase Well you can go to that website, http://www.windowsupgradeoffer.com/ and enter any information you want as long as its within the promo period and you can get WIN8 for $14+tax I haven't seen this posted on redflagdeals so quick before they find out and ruin this deal |

Many threads have been deleted on RFD since many people are using it without actually purchasing a PC recently.. anyway, I got my copy through the upgrade method.. burnt iso onto USB stick.. :fullofwin: |
^^^ Oh i thought the offer was posted but people didn't know you could still use it without having purchased a computer within the promo period i should have known RFD would know lol yeah i did the same (usb stick) i normally have a tonne of them around but couldn't find them ended up formatting one that i wanted to keep as is (backed up of course) |
hmm i just installed windows 8 on my laptop.. really doesn't feel any different from windows 7. i don't use that fancy splash page. however.. how do i disable the task bar on my 2nd display?? i can move it around but i just can't seem to get rid of it. |
Really considering the Acer W700 for its 1080p screen.. But the screen is only 11.6"... |
nm.. i spoke too soon.. i absolutely hate windows 8... i honestly think this will fail just like windows vista did... i can see it working out on a tablet.. but on a mainstream pc or laptop.. wow i fuking can't stand the new interface and everything.. it's driving me nuts... |
im not really liking it either so far but i hate it less than i did when i first installed it |

Never got asked for my product key. |
i just tried it again and it doesn't ask for a win7 cd key at all and i dont see why it would either it asks for your laptops model number and where&when you bought it |
is there an option to downgrade back to my original windows 7 pro? i was lazy and just did the upgrade instead of a clean install and i'm getting a lot of random restart to bsod -.- |
http://i48.tinypic.com/omyqx.png So some of you guys are saying that the original start menu is better than this.. |

for the people that prefer the desktop view more.. you can just Snap the "Start" screen to the left and Desktop to the right.. that's what I'm doing right now.. hahaha http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/7...eenshotvjs.png |
Edit, got my key. BTW if you use the en_HK version, you don't even have to enter a Windows 7 key. When I tried using the en-CA version, it didn't accept my old Win7 key. |
