i bought kaspersky 2013 internet security, and i have windows 8.....apparently some error comes out after trying to install twice

anyone know wats wrong with it?

do i need a specific anti virus designed for windows 8?

Mr.HappySilp 11-12-2012 11:53 AM

^^ some programs just don't run on Win8 right now. You are going to have to wait for an update.

!MiKrofT 11-12-2012 05:04 PM

Win8 has built in AV. It's incorporated into Windows Defender now.

DHP 1 11-12-2012 05:20 PM

^

so i shouldnt have to worry about purchasing a AV system for it?

ive got kaspersky 2013 and it works fine, in fact the Win8 install recommended i install it over kaspersky 2012 that i had because that wasn't compatible (kaspersky also states that its compatible with win8)

DHP 1 11-12-2012 07:03 PM

weird

my internet security says the application cannot be installed , current operating system is not supported

3rd try still no luck

StylinRed 11-12-2012 07:28 PM

maybe try and redownload it from kaspersky to see if there's an updated installer?

odd i had no issues and it works great

.Net framework 4.5 is included on Windows 8.

If whatever you're doing requires 3.5, you have to enable it.

Installing the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8

SkinnyPupp 11-13-2012 06:30 PM

You can also install 3.5 using this command (run CMD in admin mode if you have UAC on), no internet needed:

Code:

dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:F:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess
F being your Win8 install CD or USB

JesseBlue 11-14-2012 03:20 PM

thanks... the software i'm testing wants .net 1.1... lol...

Microsoft set up some sort of demonstration booth at UBC using Samsung W8 Tablets (wished they used the Surface instead). It's great to see the usage of it. I had no idea W8 could be so great for multi-tasking

Example of what I was shown:
Cocktail recipe app --> open --> charm bar --> click share --> click Mail --> drag page of Cocktail recipe app from snapped app tray into mail --> it's now in the mail :ahwow:

She also managed to have 3 apps going split on the page, not too sure how she did it. Either way, I can see this being useful productivity wise.

this page also has a lot of shortcuts for us keyboard users

Installing Windows 8

Should I upgrade from Windows 7 or perform a clean install? Traditionally, it's always been to go with the latter, but I want to know what you guys think.

If I have to do a clean install, what's the best way to backup all your applications? I don't want to re-install every single one of them again.

roastpuff 11-14-2012 05:06 PM

I did an upgrade from Win 7 but came away with driver issues. I then did a "refresh" where it basically killed your applications. Much better, and got rid of all the crap that I installed but never use.

If you don't want to have to re-install everything, clean off your drivers or make sure you have the latest versions installed.

!MiKrofT 11-14-2012 08:10 PM

I always reinstall fresh. There's no way to backup your programs without reinstalling.

SkinnyPupp 11-15-2012 01:35 AM

I used to always install fresh, but with Windows 8 you don't have to

StylinRed 11-21-2012 04:27 AM

anyone have issues with the microsoft store? mine just hangs when trying to load it or if i get in the store it hangs trying to install programs

SkinnyPupp 11-21-2012 04:33 AM

Microsoft Store :fuckthatshit:

StylinRed 11-21-2012 05:21 AM

;) wanted some free games; i cant even check for system updates either :/

SkinnyPupp 11-21-2012 05:23 AM

Sounds like an issue connecting to MS at all. I know for myself I can't connect to their update servers with my ISP's DNS, I have to use google's DNS

!MiKrofT 11-21-2012 09:10 AM

No problems here.. Both with downloading system updates and with MS Store.

StylinRed 11-21-2012 04:58 PM

not sure if this is the cause, but i think so

i went into safe mode and ran all my virus/trojan software and one of the programs found a trojan in one of the Apps i downloaded from the Microsoft Store?! was a chinese app QQ or QiQi something like that

Not sure if it was a trojan for certain, but seems that way, as after it was removed i could connect to windows update and connect to the store again (had a tonne of updates to apps and system)

SkinnyPupp 11-21-2012 05:23 PM

wtf are you doing installing shady chinese apps? :heckno:

StylinRed 11-21-2012 09:12 PM

rofl it was a drama/video app at least i think it was

knight604 11-21-2012 09:20 PM

Just installed so smooth, less than 10 minutes.

Could anyone recommend a RSS feed app?
