late on the bandwagon but i've decided i'll invest several hundred and try to trade it up to several thousand within a year. the 24/7 365 trading is appealing LOL.

which wallet do you guys use? and why?

I'm eyeing electrum but only cuz bitcoin.org says so LOL.

I put my in a hardware wallet when i don't trade. I use https://www.ledgerwallet.com/products/ledger-nano-s

You can use digital wallet like jaxx or myetherwallet

Only Coinbase (gdax exchange )insure their wallet up to a certain amount. Never keep anything on the exchanges. They could blow up at any time. Recent is BTC-e.

I don't know why you as a retail investor with couple hundred would even try futures though

cuz i already trade futures on the CME/globex LOL. i was only willing to put in a couple hundred into these other lesser level exchanges... i totally don't trust them with my money.

but if i can trade BTC futures with IB, i'll pay whatever margin they charge. LOL. 10k margins... no prob. just means the leverage is higher! haha

So you're selling it all?

ray666 11-26-2017 12:13 PM

Seems like I'm like to the bitcoin party, but I've finally decided to invest some money into bitcoin to see how it plays out.

Can exchanges are everyone using. QuadrigaCX and Coinsquare seems like that's what everyone is using for Canadian exchanges? Any reasons to look into other non-Canadian ones? Basically looking for ones that are safest with minimal fees.

Other exchanges offer more types of currency. Are you going to actually buy bitcoin or other are you looking at another type of coin. If you just want to buy and hold take it out of the exchange and keep it in a wallet.

Also you can now by bitcoins at most gas stations that sell phone cards. Not the cheapest way to do it but the easiest.

Anyone here actually use bitcoins for purchases since there's a fee for buying bitcoins?

It's all I use it for

That's why I asked about the guy who was happy about ETH going up in value. Since it's practically useless, you didn't actually gain anything unless you sold it all for more than you bought it.

Looking at buying bitcoin. Did some reading the past hour on google and skimmed this thread, just some questions.

1. Quite a few options on wallet to use, which one is everyone using?
2. Easiest way to buy is cash at ATM, but they charge like 5% fee. Is buying from people safe? E.g. Seen some ads on Craigslist on people selling bitcoin for $0 fee, are these safe?
3. If I wanted to sell later on, link the wallet to my bank account and transfer money to my bank account? Do banks question these kinds of activity? Read online banks shutting down some accounts.

I kinda got the idea of how this works, but likely missing bits and pieces. The confusing part I find is selling. Thanks guys.

1.I use Jaxx
2.A member on here sells bitcoin in person.
3. To sell you have to sell it on an exchange or sell it to a person. After you sell it on an exchange then you have to withdraw it from them. Exchanges have multiple options some free that take 7 to 10 days others that cost money but are faster.

you can't its forever stuck in btc.

use a real exchange for canadian like quadrigcx.

coinbase's service fee is almost as ridiculous as atm fees

You called?

For those wondering where to buy BTC/ETH, use www.localbitcoins.com. Money is held in escrow while you complete the transaction. Works and super easy if you choose a user with high feedback rating

Useless in a practical manner.. IE if you want to go shopping from a choice of vendors, most of them won't accept it as currency. To get any value from it, you'd have to first sell it for cash, then buy it with that cash. Or shop at Overstock.com I guess

RickyTan3 11-28-2017 09:02 PM

Still trying to figure out how to buy some.
I want to buy 5 bitcoins and everything looks so scammy.

SkinnyPupp 11-28-2017 09:27 PM

So I have 38 Vertcoins, apparently worth $200 in BTC. I remember buying them in case they ever 'took over' for LTC or to 'diversify' the coins I was mining at the time. I can't remember exactly how much I spent though. Hopefully not 38 LTC LUL

JayEch 11-28-2017 09:33 PM

Looking into getting some Ether and Bitcoin. Did some research on which exchanges to use and seems like quadrigacx comes up frequently, but this post on reddit has me worried.

https://www.reddit.com/r/QuadrigaCX/...rify/?sort=top

What do you guys think?

SkinnyPupp 11-28-2017 10:03 PM

If you're talking about a lot of money, I wouldn't deal with a place unless it actually exists and I can walk into it and talk to someone there.

Something like ANX would be good for you guys, although for people like me who just want to use BTC, the fees are stupid.
