Apparently the O3DS/O3DSXL and some N3DS have been hacked so you can downgrade it to 9.2 and use a CFW to play games. https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial...ur-3ds.407888/ No need for Sky3DS/Gateway or other tools. |
have any of you modded ur 3ds XL?...i seen it was simple on DS with 30 games but not yet on the new system |
it took me good 4-5 hours and many steps but it was successful in the end on a o3ds XL, 10.3. i was ok with bricking it and getting a n3ds XL, so you have to decide. now on latest fw, other region and eshop titles work. author's name is Plailect, the guide was perfect every step in my experience |
I just used a guide from GBATemp. Worked fine on an O3DS and two N3DS. |

EDIT: took me more than 6 hours to finally complete the setup, but now i can run homebrew, and install/run .CIA files. I tried a few games, and also an SNES emulator. This is awesome :) |
Anyone have a Cubic Ninja card that they're willing to sell? ;) |
Looking to do ninjahax? Just use browserhax.. it's a bitch on O3DS, but the N3DS should load it successfully majority of the time. |

I had an older, broken 3DS that I'm trying to update, and it looks like it should be successful. I'm wondering if I perform a system transfer to another 3ds (not new3DS) if it would maintain the hack. I've been trying to research it, and I either come up with really old threads, or people asking about system transfer from old 3ds to 'new' 3ds. |
Since I still have a 3DS with CFW, I went and ordered Ocarina of Time to try out the OoTHax. I'll see what kind of patience I have tonight to try installing it :) Update: It worked! |
I ended up updating 6 3DSes using Plailect's Guide. If you don't screw up, the process takes about 4 hours to complete. The tedious parts are the backups, and transferring them. It's great to be able to backup all my game cards, and have them all installed on the home menu. I was able to copy all my save game files over, too! It's a good time to mod your 3DS. I looked into this last year, but all the information was spread out, and there wasn't a9lh, yet. Now, you end up with a 3DS that can boot into CFW, and have the latest update, and also access the store! |
been out of the game since the dsi. if i purchase a new 3ds xl, does the firmware play a factor whether it can be modded? |
I think a newly purchased New 3DS XL would have firmware that's below 10.5. In which case, that would just require browserhax to get things started. |
I just finished setting up a9lh on my n3ds. That took myself a looooot longer than I expected. The steps needed to get the OTP was scary LOL. |
Nintendo had a good run with the 3DS. They were able to counter a lot of hacks through updates, but it looks like the battle is over, and the hackers have won. At this point, the 3DS has been cracked, and there's no going back. Sure, the process takes 4 hours to do, but I'm sure that'll get streamlined, as time progresses. The 3DS eShop has also been blown wide open. There are already several applications to download legitimate ROMs, directly, from the eShop. The entire eShop can be downloaded in a torrent, now. |
Update 11.0.0.33U came out today. If you're considering modding your 3DS, then skip this update, for now. If you're already on AL9H, it looks like this is a safe update. In order to keep using the Homebrew Launcher, you just need to rename the hblauncher file on the root of the SD to the latest firmware (ie hblauncherload_otherapp_payload_NEW-11-0-0-33-USA.bin) |
Wanna explain AL9H real quick? Haven't touched my 3DS in months. It's on 9.2 set up to automatically boot into RxTools. |
soo if I buy a used 3ds XL and its not the latest update, I can now mod it to play roms? but to do so takes a few hours ? |
A9LH = arm9loaderhax, which is the best method of booting directly into CFW instead of using an exploit each time to do it. You can still access the eShop, and perform system updates. It allows for easy backup/restore of the firmware, as well. The process to install A9LH is here: https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/wiki The minimum time to complete it is just over 2 hours. On average, it takes about 3 - 4, if you don't screw up. The majority of the work that has to be done is to get a 256 byte file (OTP.bin). LOL. |
ah shit..congrats to you guys who are just buying a 3DS & modding it than make it pay for its self... i think i bought every game i want so far for 40 dollars on sale :( one day there is a gonna be a 80gb torrent with every release. |
Just picked up a DS a couple of weeks ago. Pokemon and Majora's mask were OK...still in process of playing them... But man, Fire Emblem Awakening is pretty amazing. I can't wait to play the newer ones. |
^^^ Fire Emblem Awakening is great, and I played through it a few times. I still go back to it, on occasion. I haven't played the latest FE, but the Special Edition is the one to get, if you want all the storylines. Quote:
There's already a 170GB rip of the eShop (US/EUR) on private trackers. :) |
https://images.craigslist.org/00b0b_...pc_600x450.jpg Anyone have the Black Friday limited edition N3DS in black they want to swap for a white one? |
Hi, Looking to pick up a nintendo 3ds to get the new pokemon. I was wondering if r4's are still used or if i need to hack the 3ds like the discussion above. If so, is there a place I can take the 3ds to like in crystall mall to have it hacked or any online resource with guides/tutorial. Thanks. |

The regular one plays only regular 3DS games. The Sky3DS+ plays the newer games that take advantage of the N3DS' upgraded processor. The cheapest way right now is to downgrade it with DSiware + a second hacked 3DS and put on what is called arm9loaderhax. It edits the bootloader of the Nintendo so you can backdoor install games. Will cost you $10 as you need the DSiware game off the eShop to do it. If you don't have access to a second hacked 3DS, you're going to need to buy Sky3DS. EDIT: I don't think there is any place in Crystal Mall that does it, but some places in Richmond probably do. I would avoid those because they do a hardmod with soldering (saves time I believe) at the cost of warranty. |
