lol that didn't take long. They have literally backtracked on everything they wanted to do this gen. DRM-CYA! Kinect-CYA! I'm sure there will be tons of support for it now that almost all the consoles they sell won't have it.

So now it's basically a less powerful PS4 for the same price

bundle forza or titanfall to make up for the weaker specs and I can see this console finally start flying off the shelf
i think even the non-tech savvy people will still opt for PS4 with this price parity simply because there's more demand for the sony and they'll just go with whatevers more popular

I really don't get the idea of dropping Kinect.

It basically announced to the world that they recognized that Kinect is just a gimmick and are no longer interested in it.

But all they really did was pissing off all early adopters (usually loyal fans) and developers who were/are still developing with Kinect.

If I were MS, I'd probably just suck it up and reduce the price to $400 while including the Kinect. It's not like they can't afford the hit on their balance sheet. And it would at least generate some real interest for those who were on the fence due to the price. Taking Kinect out, these same people sitting on the fence would think twice about whether or not they are truly getting a better deal by skipping the Kinect for $100.

I doubt even the hardest of hardcore XBOX fans liked the Kinect. There wasn't a single game that made use of it, especially for "real" games.

Removing it gets rid of that $100 albatross, and they can focus on offering better first party titles (since that's pretty much the main difference between the two). It also frees up some resources, allowing performance to catch up somewhat.

Wow, finally found this official thread after a bit of digging. I bought an xbox one bundled with sunset overdrive and I can say the game is pretty good. It's a ton of fun and pretty over the top and somewhat cheezy but very enjoyable. I guess the only thing that swayed me to get the xbox one was because the people I play with are on xbox one.

I have some regrets not getting a PS4 instead but I'll probably pick one up at some point to play Bloodborne or trade my xbox one with someone with a PS4.
