I HAD SUCH A GREAT TIME AT THE GAME TODAY...and I fucking missed the first 15 minutes of the 1st period.
Friends called me at 6:30pm, said they just scored 3 tickets to tonight's game somehow and asked me to come. :ahwow: I said fuck yeah and we hop the Canada Line downtown. On the way, run into two clearly tipsy Santas on the skytrain and we talked hockey and shit to Stadium.
One guy on the train asked us if we had tickets to sell and we said we just got these three. The Santa got on our case for arriving so late to which we said we just got last minute FREE tickets and then we all made jokes about the assholes we're going to look like when we arrive 15 minutes into the 1st like lower bowl douchebags. :joy: The fact that that was the conversation just told me these guys weren't idiot fans...they knew what they were on about. Cool people. High-fives and Merry Christmases exchanged on the way out. One of the Santas had a nametag that said "Hi, my name is DOUCHECANOE"
Guy looking for tickets came with us and we helped him score some cheap last minute tickets with some scalpers. One guy said $60 so he said he was going to shop around. We get to another scalper and we tell him "hey, that dude over there said $40." and he got them for $30. :notbad: We walked ahead and saw him again inside. High-fives and Merry Christmases all around as he ran past us to get to his gate. We arrived with about 6 minutes left in the 1st, I think.
We sit down for 1 minute. Jannik Hansen scores that weird blooper Cloutier goal. WOOOOOOOOOOOOO. :victory: Older dude sitting beside me says "You got here just in time!". Another great fan...probably about the coolest I've sat in the lower bowl with. He brought a fan that didn't know hockey but enthusiastically cheered. He spent most of the game teaching that guy about hockey which is annoying when the person doesn't care but when someone wants to get into it, it's fucking fantastic chatter. The two seats in front of us are empty so we have pretty damn good viewing angles despite being near the blueline.
We didn't win 50/50. My friend's tickets are actually pretty close...first four numbers match. I laugh at him. :ilied:
Get a text from a buddy, showing Iggy's fucked up hand. Show it to everyone around, they all cringe :heckno: and then immediately... "That Iginla is tough as shit. He's back out there.". I don't think most of the Rog knew unless they got a tweet because it wasn't noticed on the big screen. Everyone had respect for Iggy but we all knew it was our duty to heckle him. Cool fans. High-fives and Merry Christmases all around. Ran into some guy that made a full Aboriginal headdress out of Canucks flags. It was fucking magnificent. Friend snapped a picture of him.
Then some cockbucket in a Bruins jersey tries to start a fight with me and my friend outside of the Rog. My buddy's girlfriend tries to pulls us away as we realize it isn't worth it so I just yell profanities and tell him his parents don't love him and such. There's cops everywhere, idiot. :troll:
Either way...was a great fucking day. Rogers Arena was playoff atmosphere. Now I think that most of the hype behind this game is from us...and maybe the players have moved on from 2011 but dammit, they knew this was important to us and put on a fucking awesome show. :tears: The whole place was louder than any regular season game I've ever heard and I've been to regular season games like when we won the President's Trophy or Henrik's franchise points record but this was almost Trevor Linden retirement loud. Maybe not for as long but there was tons of BOSTON SUCKS and the like.
Sorry, I've had a couple drinks since I got home. Just wanted to share. Feel free to "Cool story, bro." |
