Deeply saddened by how the meets aren't at Market Crossing anymore. Thanks to the non-car enthusiasts that have ruined the meets by revving, ricer flyby, racing while leaving. The new fb group admins taking down the signs that say "no meets and gatherings" and members giving London Drugs bad reviews. What has the community come to?

Something I used to be excited for every week, now something I avoid the area because I don't want the police attention on my modified vehicle.

And please, attendees please stop calling it "Revscene Meet" because Thursday Night Meets was everyone's meet, for car enthusiasts.

/end rant

JSALES 06-10-2016 02:49 PM

Who decided to have the meets at Queensborough?

DaJo 06-10-2016 04:41 PM

-sigh- Always those bunch of people who ruins it for all of us...

First, Market Crossing, now they've migrated to Queensborough...

Why won't this group just break up already?!

What's more hilarious are all the people who seem to have extreme difficulty understanding what exactly "private property" entails, even going as far as saying that it's "unlawful" to kick people off from private property because it's a "public space" and that they are "allowed to be there no matter what sign they put up."

Not sure if :lawl: or  or :seriously:

If the shit that's happened at Thursday Nights happened in a US parking lot on private property, you can for sure bet the outcome would be totally different than a couple signs going up.

If someone was to organize a weekly meet, which obviously there is a demand for, what sort of entry fee would work? Would 200 cars at $10 be economic?; or would insurance and clean up costs (plus additional policing costs) require a higher fee? What is the cost experience for the Revscene meets.

There is a demand. Because it's free. Don't make us pay for more things that was originally free to do. Like, crossing a bridge.

Now how can we afford to pay our $50 million 1-story bungalow mortgages here in Vancouver? If regulars come every week then that's $520 a year? No thanks.

melloman 06-15-2016 12:45 PM

So now I can't go to Market Crossing OR Queensborough Landing on a Thursday night?

............. Great. Thanks. :2finger:

I wouldn't pay 10 bucks to come stand in a parking lot every week and see the same cars.

Kure GS 06-15-2016 10:19 PM

Well see you all Thursday night (or not).

Kure GS 06-16-2016 10:52 PM

Queens being shut down

Mall staff starting coming around about 9:30 saying they are shutting down the gatherings there. "Please find somewhere else."

So you're asking us to hold your hand and walk you through hosting meets.

We don't charge ANYBODY for RS Spring/Summer meets. Reserved spots go directly to charities. We sell merch. Everything else comes out of pocket.

If you're trying to capitalize on this, move on. You will fail.

We do this for the enthusiasts. Not for monetary gain.

We already lost Spanish Banks. Don't fuck this up. There's a reason why these meets aren't sanctioned by us. Our meets work with the RCMP, are registered, and we clean up after ourselves.

Want success? Be respectful and responsible for your own actions.

Kure GS 06-18-2016 10:55 PM

My point was not that someone would make a profit. There is a reason the malls are shutting these gatherings down. If it is because there is a cost to them, the idea would be to cover the cost so the gatherings could go on. If there was a net benefit (I.e. selling more coffee) to the malls in having these events happen, why would they shut them down?

Traum 06-18-2016 11:10 PM

In this case (as far as meets are concerned), the cost to the mall is a direct loss of customer traffic because of the negative stigma attached to car meets. As many of us in the event organization circle knows, all it takes is one bad apple to ruin the bunch. Unfortunately, more often than not, anything bigger than a small meet would attract these bad apple types. The organizer can start charging attendees to both compensate the venue owner as well as to naturall weed out the hooligans, but then the grassroot and spontaneous nature of the meet is gone, attendance goes way down, and the meets isn't what it was anymore.

The closest successful example that I can think of is probably ImportFest. But then you see how different a Thursday night meet is compared to ImportFest.

ZN6 06-19-2016 09:52 AM

I can attest to customers avoiding the crowd correlated to loss of businesses surrounding the area. I, myself doge (heh doge) the crowd when I want my double double. I simply wanna get what I want and leave. When legit customers are looking for space to park for more than a few minutes, they'd get frustrated and the next week, they would find somewhere else to avoid the crowd.

I used to go to these even the ones at ironwood, then it became increasingly unwelcoming by property staff and people who start revving up. I remember one douchy post that said something along the lines of "why is revscene called "rev" scene if they restrict us to hard park our cars and not rev". Why is Boston pizza called Boston Pizza if they didn't originate from Boston?? It's just a damn name. And some people are too stupid to get that.

Yeah, those kind show up all the time. Late to the party so they make their grand entrance for everyone who already arrived to see. It gets the same stigma as cars and coffee. It's a stereotype for every pseudo-organized car meet. That's what killed it me and for a lot of people.

Kure GS 06-19-2016 10:27 PM

So what happens next? There seems to be a very solid following of persons happy to come out every week, stand around, see and be seen. In fact the momentum seemed to be growing, particularly following the spring meet at Adessa. Shunting from mall to mall all summer long trying to keep one step ahead of the landlords does not seem to be a very satisfactory solution.

duy- 06-19-2016 11:11 PM

evergreen raceway and pats acres racing complex hold pretty cool meets and events. doesnt seem manageable to take over the parking lot of a current establishment that was built for customers to park, purchase, then leave. time to rent out an empty lot somewhere with no pre-existing businesses.

DaJo 06-19-2016 11:41 PM

Rent an empty lot like duy- has suggested and charge attendees a small amount. Charging attendees (believe it or not) would also deter those idiots who just want to show up late and show off by revving loud, burnout, and leave.

Kure GS 06-20-2016 12:11 PM

They used to hold demolition Derby's in McAlister Park, beside the PNE. And at the PNE.
