So glad I've switched to CIK Tel (Shaw reseller).

Hondaracer 12-17-2014 07:16 AM

We were gonna go with CIKTel but the reviews are just terrible.

I can live with 25mb/s for $30 first 6 months then $60 after that. Sounded like nothing but headaches with ciktel for a minor savings and the hardware Shaw is giving away to new customers is worth $300 alone with no contract.

twitchyzero 12-17-2014 11:27 AM

I love telus 25 $30/mo student plan
I get a solid 2-3Mbps better speed than advertised and it's pretty much 24/7 consistent...then again i'm within 1km of BC-Tel tower.
I had the 50... while 1MB/s upload was nice I was content saving 10 measely bucks a month :woot:

I've been with them for 6 months now. No headaches at all. No downtime. Service is the same as Shaw (speed-wise). Reviews aren't always accurate. It's $30 for the first 12 months then $40/month thereafter.

sonick 12-17-2014 12:34 PM

Have to move my Telus internet service and just wanted to comment on the simple and easy service I received from them.

The service times were exactly when I needed even on weekends, and even offered to nearly double my internet speed to 25mbps for $5 more and extended my current discounted service rate for 6 months.

Have always had great service with them, and still no complaints.

If that was the norm I would have really considered them but I probably read 100 reviews and I say at least 80 of them were negative or had negative aspects about them. Not to say that Shaw or Telus are perfect but just didn't feel comfortable going with a company like that to save $20 a month

As for telus/Shaw they seem to provide excellent service to "new customers" while treating the existing customers like shit

GF tried to return her modem/cable box to telus to get the refund and three seperate times now she's phoned in to request the box to send it all back in and all three times they CSR said there was no record of a box needing to be, or has been sent out :/

the csr who cxled her acc prob just closed it without leaving notes regarding the equipment needing to be returned. i'd pwn off the equipment on craigslist for some money, but make sure u have confirmation saying it doesnt need to be returned.

Shaw is increasing their rate:
January 2015 Internet Rate Adjustment

Effective January 1, 2015, Shaw is increasing regular monthly rates on all Internet plans to support continued investment in building and supporting the Internet experience you need now and in the future.

Canadians use the Internet more than anyone else in the world. We are doing more than just browsing the web and checking email – we’re conducting business, watching videos and movies, streaming TV shows and talking to our loved ones with video chat. Today the average home has 10 WiFi devices with modern appliances, tablets, phones, and home security all increasing traffic on the network. By 2018, Internet traffic is estimated to triple*.

We’re committed to delivering you the best Internet experience as we grow our hybrid fibre-optic network, in and out of the home, to keep up with your online activities. At Shaw, we love the Internet as much as you do and we know the best is yet to come.

Please know that we are committed to providing you with services and plans that fit your needs and welcome any questions you may have. You will be notified on your invoice of your new monthly rate, 30 days in advance of any changes. If you continue to have any questions, please check your bill online through My Account or connect with our Shaw representatives online through live chat or the Shaw Support Community or by phone at 1-888-279-9114.

LOOKS like price is going up by $5 to $10 depending your depending your service. Better call now and ask for a promo or at least make sure your rate don't go up.

Saw someone saying on RFD forum talking about how CIK is the only provider that checks your torrent downloads, but note Telus or Shaw. No idea where the source is.

Anyone know of any cool deals out there for internet/cable (maybe home phone too)?

TELUS just sent us a letter after 4 years with them stating that they're going to charge us for going over our data limit (we're averaging 300 GBs/month and the limit is 150GBs/month).

We were never notified there was a limit when we signed up. None at all.

Alby 04-26-2015 02:06 PM

^ there was always a limit. they probably never verbally told you, but it is in the fine prints of the contract you signed up for. it was just never really reinforced till now.

My Personal Experience with Telus:

3 years ago, I switched from Shaw to Telus to take advantage of the offer that Telus was offering at the time. Part of this was that I would get a "FREE" tablet for signing on to a 3 year agreement. For the first 3 or 4 months, the bill was always wrong and strangely, the errors were always in Telus's favor. After about a year, I moved to a new apartment, a location that the telus website said their services were available. When I called in to move my services, initially, I was told that everything was fine but I then got a call back saying that they were out of ports (or something like that) in the area. They said this would be not be a problem, since they were not able to provide the service to me, they would waive the cancelation fee... only thing was, they wanted me to pay for the "free" tablet they offered as incentive for signing the 3 yr contract. And not only did they want me to pay for it, they wanted me to pay the original "fair market value" of about $500 and not even discounting for any portion the contract that had expired. Fortunately, things didn't escalate as a friend who worked for telus somehow managed to help them find a "port" in the area. That being said, my 3 yrs are up and it's cancelation time. I know things have changed at Shaw as well but I'm willing to give them a shot and even pay a bit more than have my money go to a company that would treat their customers like this.

RickyTan3 04-30-2015 02:06 PM

LOL your going to have a worst time at shaw, all these companies have shit cs

Lamboda 04-30-2015 03:08 PM

Had a Telus rep come in just now. Said $78 for phone, TV (PVR) and 25MB/s internet. Currently with Shaw with student plan and stuff. Should I switch to Telus? What's the pros and cons for both?

ImportPsycho 05-03-2015 03:49 PM

Just got a email from Telus saying Im at 75% of my monthly allowance.
Starting June, they'll charge $5 for first 50GB over my cap and $10 after that...

Never gotten this kind of email before...
Shaw is doing same thing?

I actually went to Shaw in Guildford to talk with them about this and was told that Shaw's $60 internet plan has a 250gb cap on it but does not charge for overage. However, if you are consistently going over your cap they may contact you to remind you that you do have a cap but still not charge you for it.

I did notice that telus has an option to pay an additional $15 per month for no cap. Basic, it sounds like a cash grab.

FYI It's only $15 more if you have a bundle with Telus otherwise it's $30 for no cap if you have Internet only

Anybody have any personal experiences with Delta Cable?

I'm slightly disappointed at this Telus over usage money grab but the only other provider Im able to use is Delta Cable.... So I dunno they might have me by the balls

Koflach 05-04-2015 09:05 PM

I just called Telus and was able to get their Internet 25 for $40/mo for 6 months (regular $63) and $10 off my Optik TV. The internet 25 has a 250gb monthly limit and 5-25 mbps download speed. This will resolve my issues with their data cap as I am usually in the 150-200 gb/mo in data.

I find the best way to talk to them is tell them what their competition is offering and ask them if they are able to help keep you as a happy Telus customer. If you simply call them up threatening to leave you are most likely going to find they are very unhelpful. Good luck.

This right here is why I would NEVER do a contract for TV, internet or even cell phones. I like having the ability to leave whenever the hell I want, gives you the most negotiating power for negotiating rates. I'd much rather buy all my own equipment, pay for my own cellphones and if they fuck me around I'll leave.
