So have I. Aside from install issues with the installer no showing on me twice, two Saturdays in a row. Once everything was installed I called and politely asked to speak to retentions. I told him how I wasted two Saturdays waiting around. I ended up getting the first 3 months free, the Center ice package free for a year, movie channels free for a year, all my extra packages free for a year.

Cable basically cost me $30 for the first year...which definitely made up for their mistakes

Just moveD and had to sign up with shaw cuz wait time for installation at telus is more than a week vs couple of day for shaw. Cant be without internet for more than a week.... shouldve pre-booked with telus before moving... hope shaw is ok..

I'm thinking of switching from Shaw to Telus... In-laws live with us, so no chance of cutting cable as he isn't really computer savvy...

It seems that you get more for your money in terms of the number of channels with Telus.

I know that they are offering a free 42" smart tv when you sign up for 3 years at regular pricing. We would also get 1 pvr and 2 extra digital boxes. For what we want in terms of channels and internet, works out to be $118 plus tax, whereas with shaw we currently pay $118 tax included, but fewer channels than we would get with Telus.

Is it worth it to switch?

Anyone have any ideas or tricks of how to get better value than these offers?

EndLeSS8 02-06-2014 01:35 PM

Which one has consistently lower ping?
Thanks in advance

Mr.Jay 02-06-2014 02:20 PM

depends on area and installer more than anything else. shitty install/area = shitty service.

slicrick 02-06-2014 03:58 PM

I had Telus optik TV and internet where I used to live and loved it, so when I moved I was going to get it again where I am living now the only problem was there couldn't be any modifications to the house as I am not the owner and am just living here.

An installer came to see if there would be any modifications or anything done to make it work, they would have to do a bunch of stuff so I declined and cancelled everything. Than 3 months later I got a letter from Telus saying they are going to send collection agencies after me because of unpaid bills and that they want their equipment that I never even got in the first place back for a service I didn't have :fuckthatshit: It took hours of being on hold with Telus on the phone to sort it out but when I got through to a person and not an answering machine they sorted it out quickly.

I would definitely get it again when I move out as the TV and internet awesome and never had any problems was much better than Shaw that I currently have, I'm not sure where the mix up happened maybe the installer could have said it was installed when it was not

Telus Optik TV HD is the way to go. Beautiful and sleek UI Menu and very great channel selections.

Offtopic: Shaw and Telus have these 6-month promotions all the time for new customers. Is there anything stopping people from jumping between the 2 companies every 6 months?

quasi 02-10-2014 03:46 PM

Nope, which is why the industry is retarded. IMO it should reward long term customers with better deals and new customers should pay out the ass. It's the exact opposite because generally speaking the most loyal customers pay the most well people who flip flop are rewarded. I say fuck em, switch as often as possible. I understand there are reasons this will never happen the main one being your always trying to lure new customers so you're charging them more then they are paying elsewhere isn't going to help that cause.

trd2343 02-10-2014 03:47 PM

Yea, which is what I thought too. There aren't any rules stating that you can't, UNLESS they put you on a blacklist or something lol

FRStan 02-10-2014 07:35 PM

Technically it's up to the rep's discretion, but you can always put the account holder under a different name (I.e "Chinese" English name) or a roommate.

ANyone's Telus Optik TV crapping out on them lately?
Every minute the TV pops up the Troubleshoot message. Flipping the channel gets rid of the message. A minute later again, same troubleshoot message.

Do you guys notice any change on the speed of your internet? I've been getting lag spikes and really high ping

Telus has some really good introductory rates right now. I was going to switch but Shaw offered me a price that wasn't that bad, knocked $65 off my bill for the next 6 months, $15 after that plus knocked $70 off Sunday Ticket. I'm going to stay the 6 months and then see what Telus is offering and do the dance again.

Telus is offering 50 internet and Optik TV with 6 theme packs for $75 (6 months) plus 1/2 price Sunday ticket for new subscribers so it's only $100. Install Tues-Thurs they give you a $50 credit which wipes out the install fee, switch within 7 days they'll give you another $100 credit and this is all with no contract. Future Shop has refurbished PVR's for $100 and the HD Set top boxes for $50, so if you have 3 tv's like me you can buy your own equipment for $200+tax. Probably going to buy the equipment again even though I have no plans to switch right now.

thats cheap considering what i pay for shaw. I have extreme internet, the gateway pvr with 4 portals and the home phone. mind you i have almost all the hd channels as well. paying close to 180 per month

gurdeep007 08-13-2014 10:45 AM

I just called Shaw, I got $30 knocked off for 1 year and free Canada and USA Calling for 1year along with Free HD Box rental.

I have High Speed Internet, South Asian Bundle, HD Channels, I currently have over 150 channels plus basic HD Channels.

$129 a month for a year plus tax. Not too bad

knight604 08-13-2014 11:25 AM

I'm using telus student pricing for internet, telus 50 for 40 bucks a month before tax.

saves me 20 bucks each month for a year.

tool001 08-13-2014 11:58 AM

telus all the way.. got only basic tv with telus, told them i dont need it, as i can get same channels using antenna, they knocked down the price. not even worth listening to shaw telemarkets trying to give me promotional pricing..
