Been taxed a bunch of times (on various other goods - not for gas though), they've always just done GST+PST (12%) and not charged any duties separately. I imagine they'd probably do the same for gas if they did choose to tax you. I don't think they'd bother to collect all the different levies, etc for any other organizations.

Wow, you push it. I bring back a 6 pack once in awhile. You da man!

saveth 07-10-2014 06:31 PM

It probably helps that I have a nexus card. I only cross at Blaine because CBSA has better things to do than tax Canadians at the border so I take full advantage of that.

MG1 07-11-2014 07:13 AM

Gas prices must be on their way down. It's $3.78/gal for regular now at Angel of the Winds Casino. Gonna hit some of those suggested eateries from the other thread. Can't beat the $1.49 shrimp cocktail I'm having right now.

nexus doesnt matter, i crossed biweekly for years before i got my nexus, always with 12 beers and paid only 2x. i did have to pay once when i brought a 1.5L wine though which i would think is the equivalent of 12 beers. always declare exact amount.

J.C 07-11-2014 07:01 PM

When is usually the best time to go to Blaine on a weekday?

inv4zn 07-11-2014 07:54 PM

between 9pm and 9am lol.

When you declare it do you declare the extra gas separately? "I have 100 in groceries, 100 in fuel a 12 pack of beer and a pack of cigarettes to declare"?

"Or do you say I have 100 in groceries, $100 in gas in jerry cans, $60 in my car, a 12 pack of beer and a pack of cigarettes to declare"?

Just an FYI to others, you are supposed to declare the extra(taxable) gas in jerry cans, as "$100 worth of gas in jerry cans, $60 in my car".

saveth 07-12-2014 10:55 AM

I declare it exactly the way I wrote it. I always declare the items with the highest chance of being taxed last.

TypeRNammer 07-12-2014 11:57 AM

I declare it as "groceries and gas"

If they ask for total value then I will give them the total amount.

I bring back a out 100 litres of gas and various amounts of groceries.

blkgsr 07-12-2014 12:30 PM

just flew from croatia back to paris and picked up duty free on the way....when travelling within the EU you can buy up to 10L of booze, pretty sweet

Acura604 07-14-2014 07:34 AM

RFID line was way shorter than Nexus only lane at Peace Arch crossing. As in I was first when it opened at 8 am. Too bad CBSA doesn't have RFID when coming back.

Just an FYI, the uber short cut at 264th crossing coming back into Canada is blocked now. I use it all the time when coming back from Northwoods Casino. During long lineups, you can get across in twenty minutes. Makes so much sense when lineups are over an hour. This is the shortcut that goes parallel with zero avenue on the US side. I so want to jump the border at times because it's like right there (the border).

Gas at Costco in Bellingham this morning is $3.79.

saveth 07-14-2014 12:57 PM

How often do they open the RFID line in peace arch? I crossed in that line also but only because it was beside the nexus line and was moving a lot quicker than nexus. I used to see the RFID line all the time at truck crossing and this is probably the second time ever at peace arch. I crossed over at 11am today and the wait was over an hour for the regular line.

Traum 07-14-2014 01:10 PM

Please educated this idiot here and tell me which line is the RFID line at Peace Arch?

I seem to remember there typically having 1-2 Nexus lines depending on the overall volume, but I don't recall seeing any indications that shows whether a line is RFID or not.

TypeRNammer 07-14-2014 02:03 PM

For nexus members you can access the Ready Line at Peach Arch from 8am to 1pm Monday to Friday.

I believe that for people with the enhanced drivers license must line up in the regular line to access the Ready lane.

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

MG1 07-18-2014 10:48 AM

RFID dedicated lane is usually to the left of the Nexus Only lane(s) and you can get there using the Nexus lane. At least you can in the morning. RFID as in Enhanced Drivers a License. I crossed way too early this morning. Man, the rest areas are teeming with activity south of the 49th. It's like an all day party.

BTW, gas is $3.67 / gallon here at Angel of the Winds.

Gh0stRider 07-18-2014 10:20 PM

whats a ready lane? i just use the nexus lane.

I usually grab 200-300 in groceries. A full tank and a 18.9L jerry can, 5 tins of chewing tobacco which is equivalent to a carton and maybe a six pack if I feel like it. And occasionally tack $150 in clothes.

I go on a day trip every 3 weeks when I'm home from work. I declare everything and only got dinged on the chew once this last year. Chew is $5-7 a tin there and $28/tin in alberta. So I grab some for coworkers.

Anyone have issues with crossing the border with the receipt on your phone instead of printing a hard copy?

Never, and i have found in general that when i cross the peace arch i rarely ever get asked for receipts, but when going through the truck crossing they always hassle me if they are not on hand.

MG1 07-23-2014 06:33 PM

I cross two, three times a week and they never ask me for receipts. Today, they didn't even ask me how much I was bringing back.

They just ask if I'm bringing any alcohol or tobacco products back. Ever since I got the Enhanced Drivers License, it has been pretty much smooth sailing. Not sure if the license has anyhting to do with it, but who knows?

I always try to bring receipts with me when I pick up stuff from 24/7 shipping, but there have been times I've been caught off guard. For example, I went to pick up an item in the Lynden location today, but three other orders I had on eBay showed up just before I got there. I didn't have receipts for them, but luckily I got through with no problems. I can always bring up the receipts on my iPhone if I had to. It would probably piss the CBSA officers off. BTW, 24/7 shipping hs $1.00 / item promo on this month.

Once, I had a fairly large order that arrived at Sumas. I had forgotten to bring the hard copy. I drove to Lynden, Wa. and used their (very new and nice) pubic library to print off a hard copy. 10 cents US for peace of mind, LOL.

MG1 07-25-2014 12:13 PM

Still $3.67 / gal for regular at Angel of the Wind Casino. Cheapest by far. Costco is $3.79 or so. All others, $4.00 or higher.

I always pull up receipts for items I ordered online on my phone and officers don't mind it when I hand them my phone when they do ask for receipts
