you could always get a .45-70 lever gun.

that'll kill anything in north america :fullofwin:

you will not find a quality large calibre rifle for 399.99. my CZ bolt action 22 was in the 500 range after taxes and i dont regret spending a single dollar. i highly recommend going with the ruger over the other brands if you wanna go semi. again make consideration for a bolt action 22.

sounds like you were in cadets?

I guess a semi .22 might get boring fast. I don't know, still thinking about it. Maybe a Savage bolt-action or a Marlin?

Yes, I understand about not finding a great quality rifle for $399, but spending that on a 10/22 sounds a lot to me. :(

Yep, was in Cadets.

Well only the takedown is that much. A regular 10/22 in synthetic/birch stock is around ~260 ish.
I just got my license as well in january and did a lot of research. The bolt was also my favorite gun in class.

I believe the Savage mark II or the marlin were the best budge bolts for the money. Also, you should join canadian gun nutz forum if you haven't already. A lot of useful info there.

T4RAWR 06-14-2014 08:07 PM

my suggestion would be the savage mark II FVT.

its a bolt action with iron sights and comes with a detachable box mag. perfect setup to learn on.

Here's my modest collection. I'm going to pick up a nugget in a few weeks. Also been debating an SKS, but I probably will end up getting a M305, since all of my other friends(6 of them) have an SKS.

I'll get on CGN, take a look and see what's on there. :) Yes, I checked the prices and the regular ones were not as expensive as the takedown but still quite a bit more in price...

Maybe in the future - .22's are cheaper, and easier to learn on.

T4RAWR 06-17-2014 11:30 AM

Im sure you'll be happy with the savage.

You'll be able to shoot on the iron sights and then eventually scope it and learn about all the things involving zeroing scopes and what not. CCI shotshells will be good for dispatching pests and the cb shorts are awesome and quiet enough to shoot without hearing protection.

My PAL finally arrived and into the safe goes my first rifle. My ex-boss gave me a Parker-Hale 7mm MAG that he has already dropped several moose and deer - it's a beauty and I'm looking forward to sighting it soon.

Hondaracer 06-17-2014 04:19 PM

stock looks almost identicle to my old Sako 7mm, i painted mine black though

T4RAWR 06-17-2014 04:19 PM

7mm is one hell of a hunting round, congrats :fullofwin:

Hondaracer 06-17-2014 08:29 PM

That's not a barrett though right?

SolidPenguin 06-17-2014 11:40 PM

Doesnt look like a Barrett. I think I should start saving up for a Barrett. Or maybe the bushmaster 50

just thought i'd throw this in here. went to my brothers vegas bachelor weekend. we went to a firing range, "battlefield vegas" which i could not say enough good things about. not only completely professional but really nice people. anyways. because we were a large group, they threw in a bunch of extra's too. im still waiting on a few pictures but i'll give you what i got.

i got to fire a bunch of magazines out of a warm up glock 17, then an mp5 which i had some jamming issues with. the classic UZI 9mm with stock. a tactical m4 which kicks really hard, but very controllable. then i was given a vintage ak47 with a folding metal stock. that one bruised my right shoulder a pretty good amount. everyone else got the classic wooden stock AK. then i finished it off with the belt fed RPD which i just went full rambo with. epic.

a few of the other guys went for different packages, which included desert eagles, a few rifles, a couple 12ga with buck/slugs etc etc. for my brother though, as the bachelor, they threw in pretty much every gun we used, as well as a grenade launcher (with concussion round, since we're indoors), an automatic rifle i can't remember the name of, bear with me. and no joke, a mini gun. we called ahead and reserved that one for him. it lasted maybe 10 seconds? we stitched two belts in at once so that would have been about 200rounds. i *literally* had tears in my eyes instantly. i have never been around so much power in my life. truly epic.

you can see a few others my brother shot like the pink m4, hello kitty AK and that brand new one sitting on top. he also got to use a supressed mp5, we have video of that somewhere

i'll update with more pics and videos once we have things uploaded. we had some good go pro shots too

incubus 06-18-2014 09:27 AM

awesome I've always wanted to shoot a mp5 and AK, but that's the first time I heard a m4 kicking hard and I've shot a variety of them

I have a pretty unique arsenal of guns, and I still bring my Ruger 10/22 with me every time I hit the range. It's just too much fun to high speed plink my target tree at 100 yards. Even better with buddies when you put $5 down for the fastest shooter.

I have about 4 hours of sanding and polishing work on my 10/22 and enjoyed every minute of it. The stock is an archangel deluxe, whistle pig barrel, and lots of little bits and pieces that make it a rip to shoot. It's accurate with most ammo too, which makes it all the better.

I may not bring my 870, or the sks, or the 30-06, or the pistols, or the bullpups, but I always bring the 10/22.

Just something to think about.

agreed!
The AK is a classic, while a suppressed mp5 is something that you could talk about for years to come!
:lol

One final thought;
Dear federal government.
Where is my 9mm regi!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I want to shoot, but I can't legally carry the new pistol until the letter comes. It's like having a passive/aggressive waiting period.

Hondaracer 06-18-2014 01:49 PM

Damn want to shoot that mini gun

Does anyone know if there is an outdoor range in Vegas where u can shoot a Barrett?

Zedbra 06-18-2014 03:43 PM

I was handling a few .17HMR guns today and I think I have talked myself out of getting one - I don't see the need. If I want cheap shooting, I will stick to 22LR I think. But I did pick up a new strap and a box of ammo for my rifle, I'm going to try to get to the range tomorrow or Friday night.

I did it in Henderson a few years ago, M107. It was $11/shot.

Did you run across a CZ455? Keep in mind it has interchangeable barrels for 22LR, 17HMR and 22WMR. Might be an option if you don't want a dedicated 22LR now and think you really might want a 17HMR later.
