They've been doing it for so many years in Brookswood, they have the system down pat. Langley is a long way from Squampton. What were you doing in my part of the country? |

yeah birdshot/ target load, case of 250 rounds goes for 70 or so good job hitting 15 some people dont even hit one, i will be one of those guys once i decide to try it out haha always good seeing you Steve(originalhypa) |
Thanks for the slugs! :D I brought the target back home so they could wrap it for my birthday. That's the problem with gun stuff, you can't really buy someone ammo or accessories without a valid PAL. So we're stuck buying our own gun related gifts! |

yeah I will keep you posted when it comes in |
Cool to hear Z. I have to try skeet shooting one of these days. As for the tru oil, it works well. But nothing beats a good hand sanding and stain. Or tacticool hardware. :D |
apprently tru oil has some problems getting into Canada, they didnt renew the license or something. We could always have it sent out? |

Anyways, I want to do this myself, so sending it out is not going to happen. The gun is stripped, sanded, stained, and I removed all the old bluing already. Regular vinegar does wonders. What would happen if I just polished the barrel? Going to go to CGN and read about that option. I also wouldn't mind simply polishing the aluminium receiver, not sure how that would work out and how well it would look over time. Here is a teaser of work in progress - lots more work to go. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps82f0d09e.jpg |

idk just relaying what i was told looks like a fun project hope it turns out well |
So far, so good. Been chipping away at this slowly but surely. Painted the receiver, ejector, screws, and mag tube the other day. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps732d548c.jpg Today I blued the barrel - that was a fun process and it turned out great. I just used Outers bluing from CT and took my time, did several coats and I'm quite satisfied with how well it turned out. No pics yet, I'm letting it cure for a few days. Also managed to polish the trigger assembly, wax the buttstock, and then I sanded down the stock and pump. The natural wood is very light so I wasn't sure if I should stain it before adding Tru-oil. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps1e42903f.jpg So I wanted to see if the Tru-oil would darken it up, and added a first coat and let it dry. It didn't darken much at all. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...psca6fd59c.jpg So when that was dry enough to sand, I added a thin layer of black stain and it is now going the direction I envisioned. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps3335ec15.jpg I'm going to sand out the grooves in the black stain, sand it again and I'll probably need to do a second or third coat of black before I can then start back with the Tru-oil. Overall, it's been a great project to do during this nice little heat wave - I hang in my gazebo and stay outta the sun. It's been fun learning how to do all these processes. I'm probably going to need to watch a video to show me how to put it all back together, cuz as time goes by so does my memory. |
I see where you're going with the finish now. That looks cool! |
Hey, anyone wanna hit up the Port Coquitlam & District Hunting & Fishing Club tonight for some plinking? I wanna sight in my gun and would like some help. |
I might go tomorrow morning at poco not to sure hopefully I wake up early |
work monday to friday :( |
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B000...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Pretty good deal with 2 left. I bought 2 to get free shipping. Note that I bought this like late June and it took forever to restock. |
FYI for those that work daytime during the week. Pcdhfc has changed their times to summer hours now. They open until 9pm Tuesdays and Thursdays now. Anytime during the evenings are probably the beat times to go. There's almost always a few open lanes whenever I go on those days. |

These worth it at 50 bucks? http://www.amazon.ca/Howard-Leight-R...ear+protection |
yup that's what I use and listen to my ipod at the sametime, tthinking of getting those surefire as a back up, I'm always using the foam disposable ones. |
Well, after many new 'firsts' when trying to finish this gun, I finally have it all back together. I ended up with about 8 coats of Tru-oil on the pump and about 10 on the stock. The last few coats on the stock it started to get a lot of crystals in it (the oil will do this), and I didn't want to keep sanding - so I hit it with my bench polisher and that was a mistake - took off layers and I needed to reoil some more. Anyways, I did figure a way to polish it eventually with my 7" orbital on low, though I did take of some staining near the buttstock. Anyways, I like how it turned out but next time I will try a different stain and oil process. Also, I will polish the barrel better before bluing - and perhaps do a few more coats. Perhaps tomorrow I can get it out and pump a few rounds down the barrel. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc2391344.jpg http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps4134921f.jpg http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps847adb20.jpg http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...psc7ffa9c9.jpg |
