anyone hit the range lately? |
Shit man, it's killing me not going out to the range. I hit up Canadian tire yesterday and bought a hard rifle case for $20. I'm thinking if work isn't busy today I'll head out. I've got a ton of 5.56 and 7.62 to blow off. |
renewed my membership, heading up Poco this weekend. 22, 223, 308, 9mm, slugs, packed and looking forward on playing with the toys!! |

Just did my restricted and non, mailing off today! Cant wait till I get to buy my first :D Was planning to buy a 1911 S&W Performance Centre..... but was recommended getting a 9mm to practice with first.... now either a glock or beretta =/ |

:hotbaby: Check out the new tannerite targets. They blow up real good, although I don't know of any range that would be cool with them. Also, funny how a shooting thread on RS can go for weeks without an issue, but the first day someone posts a shooting thread on nsmb, people lose their shit. Those guys suck. Quote:
:D Problem is, my T97 failed. The sear pin is too short, and the trigger stopped working. I was able to field strip and get it going again, but I would get an LAR mag worth of shots before it happened again. It's back at my LGS while their gunsmiths check it out. |
^ friend of mine is bringing up a few rifles, few shotguns this weekend. One or more will probably be staying in my safe. |

In the mean time do some research this is a decent forum for info: CanadianGunNutz.com Also check out the M&P line from Smith and Wesson. |

The newer polymer guns you cant service completely on your own. The internals are just too complicated, especially within the slide itself like the striker mechanism. I would definitely look at the M&P9 as a choice if you are considering a polymer gun. Almost half the price of both of those and just as reliable as the glock. But out of those two you listed, I'd go for the glock. Beretta doesnt fit as well into the hands (my hands. The grip is much wider/fatter) and the slide on the glock is just much smoother to work. I was also not a fan of the sights on the beretta. But that being said, go to the store, hold both in your hands see which one is more comfortable. And maybe go to dvc and rent both and try them out. |
5.56 info, barrel length The Swedish military has measured the bullet velocities of SS109/M855 military cartridges at 4 m (13.1 ft) from the muzzle fired from differing barrel lengths:[24] Barrel length SS109/M855 V4 bullet velocity V4 velocity loss 210 mm (8.3 in) 723 m/s (2,372 ft/s) 41 m/s (135 ft/s) 240 mm (9.4 in) 764 m/s (2,507 ft/s) 32 m/s (105 ft/s) 270 mm (10.6 in) 796 m/s (2,612 ft/s) 29 m/s (95 ft/s) 300 mm (11.8 in) 825 m/s (2,707 ft/s) 18 m/s (59 ft/s) 330 mm (13.0 in) 843 m/s (2,766 ft/s) 23 m/s (75 ft/s) 360 mm (14.2 in) 866 m/s (2,841 ft/s) 12 m/s (39 ft/s) 390 mm (15.4 in) 878 m/s (2,881 ft/s) 14 m/s (46 ft/s) 420 mm (16.5 in) 892 m/s (2,927 ft/s) 14 m/s (46 ft/s) 450 mm (17.7 in) 906 m/s (2,972 ft/s) 9 m/s (30 ft/s) 480 mm (18.9 in) 915 m/s (3,002 ft/s) 7 m/s (23 ft/s) 508 mm (20.0 in) 922 m/s (3,025 ft/s) - |
^ Go on CGN.com and there are a ton of guys lusting over the 8.5" barrel AR variants, then dropping mad dime on optics so they can shoot out past 250 yards. Makes no sense to me, other than for the barbie-gun factor. Good info there on the loss of velocity based on the barrel length. I know when I added the longer bull barrel to my 10/22, I could plink 10/10 shots at 135 yards using a 2" target. Even with shitty ammo, the rounds just go where they're supposed to. |
yeah i distinctly remember when i was doing research before i bought, 16.5 seemed optimal for all around short barrel to range effectiveness ratio. otherwise i would just get a pistol lol. |
agreed man! On that note, I was checking out a Marlin, bolt action 17WMR today. It's a mild step up from the 22LR for coyote control. I don't mind using the .22, but it has to be a perfectly placed shot for me to pull the trigger. With the .17 I could have a little wiggle room and still make it a clean kill. I don't often kill things, but when I do, it has to be quick and painless. Does anyone know where all the CCI 22LR are? I can't find any of these wherever I go. Int'l told me they've been out for a while, and don't know when more are coming in. |
i picked up 500 rounds of cci mini mags from eagle hunting supplies recently. might wanna give them a ring. |
