I finally received my EWK 106mm barrel with a custom bushing/nut to go with my original DW 4" shroud. A while ago I bought a Dan Wesson 15-2 that was a pistol pack, but the seller could not legally sell me the 2" and 4" barrel (but I have the shrouds). After a couple emails, months of waiting for Eric at EWK to have a little spare time, he finally agreed to make me a custom 106mm barrel for my 4" shroud. I also bought a few EWK parts kits, EWK barrel tools, and ordered a few cylinder stops from DW directly, then had all of that shipped to a legal exporter and then waited months for everything to arrive. Zed, I have no idea what you did there, but it looks really freaking cool. I'm tits deep in work, family ,and hockey these days, but I had a chance to add to my collection, AND hit the range last week. I'll post some pics of my new purchases when I get the uploaded to photobucket. |
^ you mean the revolver? Dan Wessons have interchangeable barrels and shrouds - so my two DW revolvers can use many different sized barrels. I have a 10" barrel/shroud, two 8" barrels/shrouds, two 6" barrels/shrouds, and now one 4.2" barrel/shroud. The original barrel is prohibited, as it was 101mm. This custom 106mm barrel works with the old shroud, but instead of being flush, I needed to have a bushing made to go into the shroud and then the barrel nut is now on top of the shroud. http://i459.photobucket.com/albums/q...psytcgsbt7.jpg |
It's the barrel nut that is throwing me off. That gun is a beast. But it's only 22LR, and I have enough of those. 9lbs though..... I guess it could always be used as a club once it runs out of ammo. |

I spent a good chunk of the day cleaning my hand guns - having multiple barrels is fun but sure makes for a long clean job. I also replaced a cylinder stop in one of my Dan Wessons - I waited months to get them up from the States and it took a little careful filing and a gentle pressing to get it in without cracking the side plate. I'm hoping I can get the groms to agree to go to the range tomorrow to dirty them up again. :) |
It's a good day to shoot. Or work on guns. I've been filling the calendar lately and having a good time. Some rain and an inside day would be good for the system. Especially when new shit finds its way to your mailbox. I like holstering at the range, but had a heck of a time finding a holster for my 1911 recon. It's cheap to shoot, relatively precise, and a lot of fun with a full mag and some steel down range. I have a dragonov clone already, but always wanted to build a short version. Maybe I'll do that today? Then I can move the bull barrel receiver back to the dragonov stock along with the optic (thanks again zed!!) I'm still not sure what kind of sights I will go with on the shortie. Maybe some battle sights? |
^ nice looking trio there. I see you mounted the scope sideways - I've done that before on my hunting rifle, as well. Why have the damn knob on the right - I use that hand to hold my rifle. What will you use the shorty for? A micro dot would look great, but may not suit your function. |
Looking at that optic again, it sure is big for what it is - looks good. I have a 100 round drum that I don't use very often - it prefers the good ammo only, it will bend lead tips quite often. |
I just reloaded my first 20 rounds of 7mm REM MAG. I did a variety or bullets and used a balance beam and digital scale, I shall run them through my chrony and see how they do there and on target. My 7mm MAG is an old Parker Hale with a slow twist, so it prefers lighter bullets versus the nowadays "the heavier the better" the young guys at the gun stores tell ya. Splitting between balance beam and digital scale, I loaded 67g of H1000 and did the following bullet types: (8) 154g Hornady Interlock SP, (6) 150g Nosler Ballistic Tip, and (6) 139g Hornady SST. Been nervous to reload the big magnum cartridges but I think I have done enough mistakes with my handgun rounds that I took my time, rechecked everything twice, and I'm confident these should work well. Looking forward to some time at the range to test these out. |
glad everyone is enjoying the nice weather and being able to shoot. I'm looking forward to when i can shoot again. Going in for back surgery tomorrow so should be able to shoot hopefully in the next 2 months. Had to sell my truck because i can't climb in and out and drive stick for a while. So ended up getting a treat for myself... not gun related though Spoiler! |

kinda chocked.. i had all this waiting time for the surgery, got bumped a few times and yesterday when my surgery was suppose to be today i get a call saying the doctor wants more test and that he is on vacation for 2 weeks next week and they don't operate during the summer so i'll have to save a spot for you on ohhh.... sept 3rd.. like wtf? I bet the doc just didn't want to the surgery before his vacation.. |
It could be in your best interests to have the appt after his vacation. I know how many things I screw up the week leading to my time off. For me, it's forgetting to send a box to Ontario or something inane like that. But for this guy, let's just say there is a lot more riding on it. I'm trying to find the bright spot here, but it sucks. The problem with the medical world is that to survive, you must remove the humanity from what you do. But the problem is, these guys are working on humans. It's not so easy for us to forget that we have lives too. |
