what kinda steel you looking for? standard A36/44W or more into AR500 plate? Thickness? You looking to get it in a specific size and shape or just whatever? I work in a steel fab shop so anything you dream of i can make happen lol. I manage the engineering and CNC division.

Well hello sir. I would like either a 12" or 8" AR gong for magnum rounds at 50+ yards. SO, I'm guessing AR at least 5.8"? I could probably handle fab'ing a stand or if you want to do something all-in, I'm listening.

I can get access to AR plate but it's expensive. Supplier has a minimum order as that's typically not used in regular steel shops. I'll think about a design tomorrow. Previous idea was to have the stand take apart to make it easy to transport. I'll also do some research as to what thickness in a36/44w that could handle the magnum rounds that way it'll keep cost down.

they are changing the law so you can no longer challenge and have to do the course. not sure when that comes in to effect

I have a couple of AR500 plates that I use for my long guns, but they're heavy as hell to carry around. Plus they're hanging units, so they can't be angled downward.

Needless to say I took a face shot with a piece of shrapnel last year, and don't want that to happen again. Since then I came to learn about minimum distances, and how different steel reacts to being shot. My biggest worry is basically finding something that I would feel safe shooting at 10-15 yards. Almost like what they use in pistol comps, etc.

I built a stand for my first AR500 target, and it was easy to take apart. Problem was, that made it flimsy on the range. Another factor you have to consider is how to mount the plate to the stand. I tried everything from self healing straps, to aircraft wire and finally settled on old fashioned (heavy) chain.

I'd take a pic of my targets but my brother still hasn't returned them to me.

best way to have a hanging target angle downwards is instead of hanging the chain directly to the mounting hole, run a bolt through the front of the plate, put a not on the back of the place, then washer, chain, washer then nut. this will offset the mounting point about 1/2" back throwing of center of gravity and it'll naturally give you a downward cant

I have a BCM Gunfighters vertical stubby for C-Clamp style gripping...found the AFG a bit odd, but I guess it just comes down to personal preference.

I was looking to see which place offers mil / LE discounts and found that lever arms does a 10% discount.

I'm not sure who this would apply to but every little bit of savings helps in this expensive hobby.

I don't really care too much about the mag restrictions. XCR mags with 10 rounds are awesome. I don't need 25 rounds in a mag. That's like $8 per mag! But if they're giving, I'm taking.
