Been thinking about picking up a Winchester XPR in 7mm MAG. There is a rebate right now, been reading good things on them, and I want a synthetic 7mm. I've been kind of thinking about an X-Bolt, but the price and reviews on these Winchesters has my curiousity peeked.

Anyone held one? Shot one?

Not looking at the combo, but here is a Cabela's link: http://www.cabelas.ca/product/86967/...dtYWlsLmNvbQ==

I've never shot a 7mm before, but I like what I'm reading about it.

The 7mm Remington Magnum offers ballistics better than the .30-06 Springfield with bullet weights of 175 grains and less, one of the more popular loads being a 160 grain spitzer loaded to 3,000 ft/s (910 m/s).
That's the makings for a good hunting rifle for larger game. Far more precise than my 45/70 hole puncher.
:lol

Zedbra 09-08-2017 09:05 AM

I already have a 7mm MAG and I love the calibre, but my rifle is an older wood/blued combo and I like the synthetic/stainless. Very flat, easy to fine tune hand loads with 7mm MAG. I think I am just in the 'want a new rifle' mode - need to calm it down, finish my AR first. lol.

I have a synthetic Tikka T3 in 7mm it's been awesome. It's been a great companion in the bush for years for me now, it's so easy to handle and traverse logs etc have loved it since I got it.

My dad and I have both been shooting 7mm mag for as long as I can remember. Taken many animals with them between the both of us. Only caliber for me

With that said I'm going to need a new scope for my gun this season, I have been shooting with an old bushnell elite for the last 7-8 years, any recommendations for somthing under $400?

I've liked what I've seen in a few friends variable optics

I have been very happy with my Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x50mm on both my .270 and my 7mm MAG. Very clear glass, lots of light transmission, and robust - one dropped out of my ATV boot doing 35kph, scratched the scope bell, and it still held zero.

Sadly, they used to be $500ish, but their price has jumped. Their Prostaff line is cheaper - they are a 2 piece construction but the glass is excellent as well - I have a few of them. If you are okay with a 4-10 mag, that will fit under $400.

Nikon scopes are great.

There's a great promo going on Zeiss which ends sometime this week. I know Zed has had bad luck with these scopes LoL.

But Nikon price point can't be beat

RRxtar 09-15-2017 07:20 PM

you guys hunting with 7mmRM. what factory ammo are you using for deer?

Im keeping an eye out for a Tikka T3 or T3x stainless for hunting and I keep seeing tons of 7mmRMs for sale, but I think thats almost a little too much horsepower for deer. Great caliber for larger game tho.

Zedbra 09-15-2017 09:58 PM

I only reload for my 7mm MAG, no factory ammo. As for too much calibre? Never heard of a deer not being dead enough.... ;) I have loaded and tried some 130g loads worked for smaller game - same as most peoples' .270 "deer" gun. However, I find both my 7mm MAG and my .270 both prefer 150g bullets - just right for large and small game.

I'm sure there are many mouse fart loads you could find for 7mm MAG, just can't help you with factory ammo recommendations (though when I do buy factory loads I usually only buy Norma, so that I can have the brass for reloading).

Now that Grouse River is gone, it seems a bunch of Wholesale Sports will be shutting down too. I wonder if they'll be blowing stuff out or just shipping it to other locations.

originalhypa 09-17-2017 12:02 PM

Wholesale is done. They're selling everything this weekend.
I'm on the way now.

Zedbra 09-17-2017 03:00 PM

^ I've heard the deals aren't that great, from what I have heard. Give it some time, prices will drop.

originalhypa 09-18-2017 08:20 AM

You're right, nothing spectacular this early in their sale.
I need ammo though. And reloading bits and pieces so when the world ends on September 23rd, I'm fully prepared.

:troll:

Zedbra 09-18-2017 10:11 AM

I did like their selection of reloading bullets, I may have to go and look for some more for my .270 and 7mm MAG

blkgsr 09-18-2017 12:25 PM

Tiger Arms had some really prices on ammo a couple weeks ago.

originalhypa 09-19-2017 09:27 AM

Even the good pricing these days is expensive. We were so spoiled when the dollar was at par to be able to buy 5.56 ammo at $35/100 on average.

Hopefully we get closer to parity. Once the AR chassis starts selling in the $5-600 range, I'm in like a dirty shirt!

The S&W and DPMS ARs are in the $649 range right now. Big slow down in the US market has manufacturers dropping their prices.

Building my AR has been a fun (but expensive) learning curve, though. Just saying.

originalhypa 09-20-2017 06:54 AM

For me it's the cost. Not even the overall price, but I'm up to 16 guns now and before I make it 17 I'm going to need a good reason. AR are a blast, but we have them in our shooting group already. That's why my focus has gone to the ammo side. My reloading setup is looking really good these days. Plus with winter coming, it's nice to sit down and pound out a few hundred rounds.

Zedbra 09-20-2017 09:26 AM

I'm thinking of getting a better press for my rifle reloads - a single stage. I have the LEE turret press and there are a few mils of sloppiness in the die plates that sometimes it bumps the shoulder and the round can't chamber. I'll give you a call, see what you have working for you - I'm thinking of a Progressive for my handguns and then old fashion single stage for rifles. Not sure yet about .223.

The wholesale “sale” was an absolute joke.

Won’t be going back to support that place

arent they closing down?

Hondaracer 09-23-2017 10:21 PM

Yea, their “blow out up to 30% off closing sale” is a 10% markup on online prices

Zedbra 09-24-2017 06:39 AM

Hondaracer - you still looking for a scope?

HuntingBC.ca

Hondaracer 09-24-2017 10:57 AM
