If you ever find yourself in the bush with an animal rushing at you, the first thing you'll notice is just how fast they are on you. A bear can get cover 30 yards faster than an NFL linebacker, and with far more rage. You need to be locked and loaded if you ever suspect that you're being stalked by wildlife.

357 and 38 special are the same size round, but the 45, 44, and 357 are all completely different sizes.

Maybe you're thinking about the 45/410 combo like the Taurus Judge?

My wife was attacked by a trio of nasty coyotes a few years ago. It was about 6am, and they came up to her as she was walking the dogs. The lead 'yote snatched the dog right off the leash while the others came at my wife from behind.

Our other dog saw this and attacked the lead 'yote causing him to drop our smaller dog. By this time I heard the commotion and woke up. I ran outside and scared them off enough for the wife and dogs to come in. That's when I grabbed a few tools from the gun safe and removed that nasty coyote from the gene pool. One shot was all it took to drop him. The rest of the rounds were for me.

So now I had a sobbing wife, and a little dog with 4 tooth puncture wounds on her torso, along with a dead coyote that weighed over 50 lbs. It wasn't a nice way to wake up.

The point is that she didn't even see them coming. The lead coyote lunged out of the dark with such speed, that she didn't have time to yell, let alone grab a firearm.

Animals be all like ninjas when they're hungry. Also, our little white dog still has scars from that incident.

Two of my uncles have lived the majority of their adult lives in the kootneys, in cranbrook and invermere respectively. One works for the forestries and one runs a mine, both avid hunters.

The one uncle has known 4 people who have been killed by grizzlies up there, and all 4 were very experienced woodsmen/lifelong hunters etc. they both have numerous stories of close calls etc

A guy who was an aquaintance of my uncle had an accident with a chainsaw way out in the bush and tried to drive himself back, ended up with three flat tires and then tried to walk the rest of the 10+ kms with a big open wound. Had a gun and bear spray and ended up bear food. My uncle was called to identify him because the remains were so "grisly" that they didn't want his family to do it. His wife was begging my uncle to see him but he basically said no, and that's final, you don't want to.

Nice stories eh? Lol

The morale of the story is, unless you're Clint Eastwood at sundown, you'd better be really ducking fast and effective with your rounds if you're gonna survive an attack

Just got back from my hunting trip, was cut short because of other members needing to return home. Had a shot at a black bear, I either missed him from 200 yards (which I think I may have pulled the shot from excitement), or I gut shot him as there was no blood and he did take off like a bat outta hell.

One of our group also lost a moose that he shot - we tracked it for 2km into the woods but then lost the blood trail. Only came home with a few grouse for my boys and some fond memories. Next year, Yogi won't be so lucky.

I've been curious about picking up a side by side - just don;t think I would shoot it much. I do like my 20g O/U for grouse hunting, though.

Anyways - for some reason I have been having urges to buy a 1911 - even though I have never even held one. Like, this is something I have been reading up on for a few months now, I'm leaning towards a Dan Wesson.

dad had a 1911 before, always liked it but ended up getting out of handguns about 10 years ago, actually ended up buying it back from the same guy he sold it to lol, i havent shot this second go around yet though..

I've been hanging around the Langley Range shooting off my 357 reloads.
I maxed out the powder in my Titegroups with lead projectile reloads, and was shocked to find that they didn't kick as hard as a factory load with FMJ. There was a distinct difference in sound and power with the factory loads.

For dicking around, I really like shooting the lead rounds. I can pop off all six in a 4" target at 8 yards. Single action by pulling the hammer back though. Double action is still a bit weak for me.

Those are rookie numbers, you need to tighten that up, son. ;) My .357s seem to prefer FMJ 158g bullets, but at 7 yards 148 lead WC do just fine. You able to shoot mid-day sometime? I'd like to check out that range sometime.

Hahaha, those aren't my best numbers. That said, putting a half dozen 357 rounds in center mass is going to stop whatever is on the other side of that pistol.
