every G20 I see. I always think of these.

I miss my G20, it was an auto and wasn't the "t" trim but it had charm. sr20 had decent power too.

The 3VZ in this blows head gaskets. Almost guaranteed before 200k. Valvecover leak is common and can be ignored. Transmission isn't great but they've replaced it already.

Hold on a second here! If this was a BMW we were talking about we would be getting all the comments about how unreliable BMW's are with all them oil leaks, head gasket failures and crappy transmissions but it's a Toyota so with all those problems we're still saying it's reliable/cockroach spec? Seems like a double standard.

I guess I'll just have to fill out a hurt feelings report and go hang out with all the other BMW fanboys so we can validate each others bad decisions buying used cars.

To be clear, I am NOT claiming that the presence of issues in a Toyota somehow makes a used BMW more reliable.

The 4 cylinder is legit cockroach spec. The V6 aren't nearly as reliable. Overbuilt yes, but they have failure points. Also good luck changing spark plugs on these, you need to be a yoga master to reach the rear bank.

Buy it.

My gut says somethings off w the seller not the car. Not shitting on him - just kind of weird, even for this time of year. This should be 25k

The car has an oil leak, hence the reduced price. Seller noticed it after putting it to storage.

bomberR17 01-15-2021 08:50 PM

Is it expensive to fix the leak? Tempting as well haha.

Prob minor - if I had the disposable cash this would be in my possession right now. All these price drops are doing is making it a more attractive “investment”. I can fix an oil leak - I can’t easily source that interior.

Everything on a BMW is expensive to fix!

Depending where. Valve cover gasket? Easy. Oil filter housing? No big deal. Constant Pressure Valve (CPV) leak? A little pricier. Oil pan gasket? That one's expensive. Gotta drop the front subframe.

That said if you do it yourself, it's doable.. just a bitch for the last two things.

Keep in mind that this car does not have rod bearings done to it (you should do that and CPV). VANOS is not done so take that into consideration too. Needs a besian rebuild kit. Granted these two things, it's very rare to find a car that had all of the Big 3 done to it. Mine did, but that's an exception and mine wasn't perfect either.

The Turner subframe reinforcement plates are okay. Just ok. It needs a vincebar and x brace for it to actually be bulletproof. The Turner plate is to do it so you can say you did it. I wouldn't have done Turner plates and I would have just gotten the more expensive option. At least it's not epoxy, people won't weld on that.

ISC coilovers are like the new BCRacing coils. They're good cause they're cheap and they offer decent performance for the price.

I didn't edit this to shit on the guys car. Just tryna provide knowledge. I'm of the opinion that the quality of mods put on a car reflects how much the owner cares about their car. An example of this is that I wouldn't buy a car that had rep/fake parts put on it or eBay parts for important things. Or I wouldn't buy a car with tires that are cheap Chinese shit.

But yup, I miss it too :(. It held up pretty well. Numerous long road trips.

$4,900 for a 2010 Insight, few dings and scrapes but otherwise looks pretty clean.

I know the seller pretty well. he just unexpectedly invested a bunch of money in a business. Plus he already owns my old g37, and a beater and two motorbikes and his work van of course. It's a lot for a townhouse...

Oil leak he said looks like CPV which is common. Clearly this thread has confirmed that you can expect a bmw to leak from somewhere at some point

68style 01-16-2021 10:54 AM

Did he change the exhaust to a larger single exit tip???

I know he said the stock exhaust is included... but why mess with one of the most recognizable features of that car?

I think quad exhaust is 1) heavy af 2) less power. Single tip is more efficient iirc. Makes sense on a track car.

But also his car, his choices. But there shouldn't be an expectation that other people will like his choices.
