Either way, I'm not a player in the game, but I sure as shit could find a gt3 for 200k that's a lot cooler than that targa.

Only really, really rich people buy Targas as they make no sense as your primary 911. If I were a really, really rich person though and decided I "needed" a 2nd 911 a carmine red Targa would be on my list. FWIW, I suspect for non-car enthusiasts that a Targa is just as cool or cooler than a GT3.

The only catch is -- you're probably gonna have to wait for a solid 8+ months, if not longer before the car arrives.

Wait till the new luxury taxes kick in and expect to see prices jump up on used cars too.

Fak it. I should just buy that GT4 now and see how much it will increase.

westopher 05-10-2021 03:17 PM

It should have the opposite effect. Paying an extra 25% tax doesn’t make stuff worth more. That said, the market is based on the world more than locally for these cars as people have no issue buying from far away for something niche.

LQ does respond well to mods, but it doesn't appear to have any mods beyond the intake manifold, so only ~300hp stock

Lq4 has many benefits over ls1. Unless you are referring to ls3 which is 6 times the price. Lq4 is just a cam away from 500hp

Not local, in the UK but since this thread has turned into "interesting shit for sale" thought I'd share. Some pretty awesome P cars for sale in this collection, Harris reviews them all too in the short video, great late night watch or browsing....or porn if your westopher

yup this was me...paid the same for my used 991.2 GTS as what a new 992 S would cost....but I dont have the patience to wait 6+ months (likely 8+) right now.

covid has done weird things to the car market....I just sold my lancer for $7000 more than I paid for it....

westopher 05-11-2021 07:16 AM

GTS is a big want over an S though. That’s going to hold its value much better and more importantly just be a cooler car.

Sorry, I meant for the used car market.
If a new GT4 is $150K plus tax and then an additional 25% luxury tax, that will push people to look at a used GT4.

Similar debate about what Skiipi said about getting the GTS vs a brand new S except it is price and not availability.

I know but he hasn’t done any mods which is weird considering the engine is shown out of the car and apart haha

westopher 05-11-2021 10:29 AM

I think the tax will do super weird things to the market. 100k and up is the tax right?
Might push the 70-80k cars up and the 110k cars down, which eventually will bring those cheaper cars back down cause the gap becomes too small between them. I’m no economist though, somehow everything will just keep going up lol.

The new federal luxury car tax is either 10% of its total value or 20% of the value over $100k so on a GT4 at $150k, it's an extra $10k on top of the other luxury car taxes that are out there. If you can afford an GT4 then $10K shouldn't affect the decision THAT much (just skip the racing buckets and the chalk paint job).

Also, JFC, Porsche charges $640 for a smartphone compartment for a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0.

The luxury tax is gonna he so stupid for trucks now

It’s going to push everyone looking at the high end half tonnes into the 2500/3500 diesels now because you avoid the luxury tax.. lol the tax will probably cover the difference in vehicles

Traum 05-11-2021 11:30 AM

Bear in mind that with these luxury taxes -- including the ones we already have now in BC -- I'd be quite surprised if people aren't structuring their acquisitions as a lease where the lease terms are specifically spelled out so that they pay the bare minimum amount of luxury tax, and only on the portion above each tier.

who's spending 100k+ on a half ton pick up truck? :yuno:

how does lux tax affect leases? do you pay the 10% on the lease payments?

maybe if you threw every single option at a platinum - but i always figure guys are leasing those trucks.

EDIT: Traum thanks for a little bit of lease info

Platinum, limited F150’s are touching 80/90

As our the Laramie and longhorn1500’s from dodge and Denali from GM, depending on options. It’s crazy

westopher 05-11-2021 11:59 AM

How the fuck are people buying these 100k trucks and 2.3 million dollar houses on a 120k household income these days lol.

punkwax 05-11-2021 11:59 AM

Speaking of trucks.. I’ve been dabbling and the used market sucks. Almost made a poor financial decision on Mother’s Day and went to look at a new Sierra 1500 AT4 but it ended up selling the same day it landed.

Decent deals on new and used trucks are few and far between it seems. If anyone knows of any gems out there, please share or fire me a PM :D

For the federal luxury car tax it appears you have to pay it up front:

https://driving.ca/auto-news/news/ca...-emission-ones

Quote:

The vehicle tax will be 10 per cent of its full value, or 20 per cent of the value over $100,000, whichever is less, and is due when you buy it in Canada, or if you bought it elsewhere, when it’s imported into the country. If you lease the vehicle, you must pay the full luxury tax up front. GST/HST applies to the vehicle’s final sale price, inclusive of the luxury tax.
I imagine this is because it's a 1 time tax that doesn't apply to used cars while the BC one does apply to used cars.
