I'd say the current price inflation has far more to do with the limited supply due to COVID than to seasonal fluctuations, but preowned sports car prices are really ridiculous right now. Compared to Sept 2019, I'd say the current prices have at least inflated by 25%. In some case -- a 987.2 Cayman, for example -- that price hike is closer to 30%.

Been really kicking myself for not splurging on a Porsche back in the summer of 2019 when the itch started.

Sports car prices are up dramatically from February far beyond the seasonal bump.

High prices are bringing more cars to market so if you can wait a while prices may come down. Perhaps people will start spending on travelling again instead of toys.

the jumps are crazy - it's not just a seasonal thing. everybody is looking for a bitcoin or a GME scenario in the car world. disposable cash and every youtube channel hyping "the next thing" and "investment cars"

i know BAT blah blah blah, but the closing prices on some fairly pedestrian cars are out of control.

btw: if anybody w a well sorted E46 M3 wants to try out the Porsche world, I would trade my 996 for the right car. I feel like I'm never going to own an E46 if I don't act soon

ya - sort of. the car portfolio's value has most definitely increased this year across the board.

as an enthusiast though - i feel like we're losing the plot. these cars aren't worth their dollar values. nobody is going to get out of an 82SC and be excited that they spent 60k on it. as badly as I want an aircooled car, I know now that I'll never own one.

I need to put my daily beater up for sale then. If I can bag $10k with it, I'd totally consider that as a win.

These car prices. Just saw a 2015 Challenger Scat Pack manual with cloth seats listed at just under 53 thousand. Low mileage but still. Today a 2021 one will be around 58 retail for the same car brand new with a warranty. But who knows maybe people will pay it.

That's cheap for a CRV.

When my wife was looking, dealers wanted $9K for a shit brown CRV with shit brown interior and 250K km's and a check engine light.
And this was at Honda, not some dinky Kingsway dealer.

Not to mention, I want cars, not money. 80k 10 years ago I could have my e36, e30, a rough 964, a 944 turbo, and still have money for wheels for all of them.
People think they are rich cause they have more money, but if more money buys way less shit, you’re way poorer. It’s not good.

i definitely see the flip side

vehicles take up considerable space, we spend a whole bunch of time researching/tinkering, it's not cheap to keep them on the road especially as they get older

i stopped trying to justify it-- there's no denying it's emotional and impractical but if it gives you enjoyment and some purpose, that's good enough

IMO, it depends on what you look for in a car. Power-wise it's obviously very capable, but the delivers that power and speed in a manner that I do not particularly enjoy because the engine is just an absolute torque monster. I prefer my engines to be more rev happy, but the C5 prefers to utilize its massive torque and its seemingly lazy revs to get things done. But these cars are definitely fast.

And these cars can handle too, even right out of the box. Grip is massive. The faster you drive, the more nimble the car becomes.

The interior is your typical year 2000 American affair -- it feels cheap and American to me. The stock seats are garbage.

This one is a hatch model, and that rear hatch can swallow a gob ton of stuff.

With a C5 NON Z06 keep in mind they are not very powerful at all. They make 345hp and 350ft/lbs. Back in 2000 that was fast, but today that is a rather slow car.

Less safety and tech back then, maybe less weight.

Muscle cars/performance cars can be ridiculously good on the highway, on a 1000km trip including going through the rockies (and not slowly...) I averaged 8.7 l/100km (27+mpg) in the mustang. Big v8 loping along and somewhat aerodynamic shape? Good economy.

350hp is way more than enough power to lose your licence in under 5seconds
Today, that is for sure, not a slow car

Can confirm, my 2007 c6 was the most expensive summer gas bill i have ever had

I’d love a Corvette. I think I could totally get over the stigma, would just need something work on all day instead of a Z. Probably build a locost7 on the side. Haha.
