K I did a bit more reading on the car and I stand corrected.
Now would u guys take a MCoupe for 35k or 1M for 65k. Both are rare... One has the engine from the E46 M3 which is one of the most reliable M engine.

westopher 08-17-2015 04:27 PM

I'd take the M coupe.:)

tofu1413 08-17-2015 04:32 PM

+1 M coupe.

vitaminG 08-17-2015 05:06 PM

id rather have a new m2 when theyre out, m3/4 motor 400+hp, looks way better, still small, still relatively light weight.

not that i could afford it, but hard to justify spending 65k on a 5 year old used car just cause its rare.

skiiipi 08-17-2015 05:09 PM

Waiting to hear about the potential to move back to BC... If that goes through, lll be hunting for a new car... Let's hope that the MCoupe in edmonton will still be available then.

flagella 08-17-2015 05:54 PM

lol, never understood the big deal about 1M. Rarity is probably the only thing there is to it, but I could think of way too many other cars, or even a combination of two cars to be had before dumping $ on to 1M.

I saw this when it was originally sold for 8k, Im not sure if someone bought it but it had rust in quarter panels. Had a pretty big accident, but the seller is pretty honest.

I test drove yesterday too, scheduled for pre purchase inspection today.

Did you do an inspection at the shop? or just bought it at the spot?

The M1, and e28 M5 engine code is M88. The S has nothing to do wether its a real M car or not. This car stands for more about the classic motorsport division than anything since the e46 m3 csl.

I don't disagree with you Westopher, but I put the 1M in the same "M" class as the X6/X5M cars that they are developed by M division at BMW, but don't actually have parts that were made specifically for the 1M. It uses the M3 suspension, brakes, wheels, etc. It is a "parts" car (great parts though) like Porsche GTS cars.

I think the fact the 1M shares the same motor as other more pedestrian bimmers holds it back. They could have at least tuned the motor to provide +10hp to +20hp more than the same motor in the 335is and Z4is.....

westopher 08-18-2015 08:06 AM

The thing about it though is it didn't need more power. Building German muscle cars is for AMG. The real m cars are about a balanced package. Definitely see what you mean with the parts bin comment, but as you said, it's a pretty good bin.

freakshow 08-18-2015 08:12 AM

I think the rarity is blurring your vision a bit. The one year production will most likely make it a collectible.
However, purely looking at the car itself, while it's a fantastic car, I would agree with Z3guy.. it's nothing 'special' in that sense.

I am getting old, no, I correct myself, I am old! I have been looking at getting a high mileage 993 or 964 as a toy, but prices are just outrageous. Avg condition 993 with 100k+ miles are going for $50K+ USD and even 964 are going for +$40K USD. E30 M3s, Z3 Coupes, Z4 Coupes are starting to look like good deals!.........

Off topic, but I was looking at that MCoupe again, and was reading the dealer services... I gotta say I'm pretty impressed, free truck loaners for hauling stuff, enclosed trailer for bring your car to service...

Quote:

Luxury Valet Service We will come to your work or home to pick up your vehicle when it requires service and supply you with a luxury loaner vehicle (subject to availability). Complimentary Trucks While your Porsche is an extremely capable vehicle, you probably won't want to haul heavy loads with it. We offer complimentary trucks to all our customers for weekend adventures or hauling use. Enclosed Trailers Don't risk driving on winter roads just to make it to your service appointment. We will come to you, pick up your sports car in our enclosed trailer, and tow it in for service. We keep your vehicle completely protected from the elements.

Should be actually glad they produced the 1M in limited quantities...

that car was basically an after hours, engineering, skunk works exercise to begin with!

stock power is more than ample.

and like westopher said... leave the muscle cars to AMG :megusta:
