But like $11k for a beat-up FRS is pretty solid gamble. Not all rebuilts are bad

Ad was reposted recently. I'd negotiate a tad lower. So much want but not the right time in my life right now.

:QQ:

110kms nice! I had an 02 Q45 which is essentially the same car. Only issues I had were starter and both HID ballasts died. The ballasts are about $1000 each if you buy from the dealer. Plenty of power and rides like a couch in wheels.

Those RX8's are pretty tempting in terms of bang for the buck in a sports car. I've looked into them for a long time. If you're interested in an RX8 in general, I wouldn't bother with an early one like that. Look for a mid-cycle refresh model ('08-'12) like this:

https://vancouver.craigslist.ca/bnc/...494066343.html

If your interest is that '05 because it's $5,500 then an example at nearly twice the price isn't relevant but it's a pretty good bet that a newer one will cost less in the long run when it doesn't need an engine rebuild that seems to be almost guaranteed to be required in a gen 1 RX8 (unless you find a unicorn that was owned by a maintenance OCD owner.)

The mid-cycle refresh had a number of changes to the engines that make them a bit more reliable. There were also cosmetic changes to update the look but the mechanical and suspension changes are why you'd want a gen 2 model.

From wikipedia:
In 2008 November, Mazda engineers improved the RX-8 body rigidity through the addition of structural reinforcements, by adding a trapezoidal shock tower brace and enhancing the local rigidity of the front suspension tower areas. The rear suspension geometry was revised for better handling, and the final-drive-gear ratio on manual transmission cars was shortened from 4.444 to 4.777 for improved off-the-line performance. While minimal, these changes gave the updated RX-8 increased acceleration and performance. Mazda engineers claimed that the 2nd generation RX-8 was (slightly) faster than the previous generation due to the lower gearing and improved suspension. The Renesis II motor iteration that launched with the 2009 model year included a third oil injection port in each rotor housing to feed oil to the middle of the rotor facing, making this their first all new EMOP (Electric Metering Oil Pump) with a total of 6 lubrication injectors, plus an all new engine oil pump.

The updated RX-8 also received design enhancements that were meant to freshen the styling and give the RX-8 a new look, without impairing the basic design theme. Refinements for the 2009 model year included a more aggressive restyled front and rear bumper as well as a new front fascia. The updated RX-8 also came with sporty, high-quality finish front and rear headlamps as well as larger exhaust pipes (now measuring 90 mm (3.5 in) across).

For $5500, that car is begging for an ls swap. I've always had a soft spot for the styling of the rx8. But that renesis just doesn't cut it for reliability.

You know you are old when people are saying a car from 2008 is one of their childhood dream cars!

At least rotary rebuilds are pretty cheap and easy to do, it's not like rebuilding a piston engine. Unless the renesis motor is very different from a 13b.

No worries, it wasn't a knock on you or the 350. It was just a reminder that I am a dinosaur.

I'm sure some of our Join Dates are earlier the some members birthdays..

I'm glad I got to experience my "realistic" dream cars from HS.

IS350 and the Acura TL-S. Still need to get into the G37 and the 335i LOL then the 17 year old inside me will be happy.

320icar 02-20-2018 12:46 PM

I’ve always been a fan of realistic dream cars, not the typical Italian hyper car. In high school my dream car was a bone stock white on red rsx-s. I guess now as a young adult I own my realistic dream car (RS) and couldnt ask for anything more

punkwax 02-20-2018 12:58 PM

NSX and 911s were the dream cars for me. Had Testarossa and Countache posters on the wall but didn’t ever dream of buying one compared to the aforementioned two. Just wanted to sit in one lol

Still holding out hope that one day I’ll get into one of them but I gotta kick 3 kids out of the house first and one of them isn’t even 3 yet :okay:

I'd be shocked if there's anyone here that's 16 (born in 2002). Props to them if they're on an ancient forum at 16. I think the general demographic of RS is roughly 32+ (based on the last noob and stock car meet). I do remember lurking on RS in high school tho.

This. I've always wanted more normal, attainable cars. While you could work hard and get that italian super car, I'd rather have a e46 m3 and a house LOL. Realistic dream cars are awesome, cause everyday, you're living the dream

EDIT cause i don't want to make a new post: Anyone looking for a decent daily?

I was gonna say 28, but based on other threads, it seems like the demographic skews higher.

Tho y'all can't be that old if the FR-S came out in your high school days.
