love these cars - great daily. I *think those are sport seats. Bluetooth and the ski rack. Just needs a set of snows to be a great year round car. Totally agree with your assessment - this is as close an experience I've ever driven to an e36 in all the best ways.

Somebody buy this!

lowside67 10-23-2018 06:42 AM

Yup - sport seats, rare on a 128 and nice to have. Mine has the base seats and they suck... Recaros up next haha.

Energy 10-23-2018 07:30 PM

They’re much more exciting to drive than an S2k too :)

Nice bias you got there

I had an S2000 a few years ago so I am qualified to compare the two cars. The Cayman is more balanced, more powerful and feels like a more solid car overall.

I have looked into the swap at length. There is just no way that any sane human can justify it.

There are a handful of places that can integrate the m3 electronics into a 128 - in addition to the motor and transmission, you need its key system, ECU, and body modules (think $2500 on top of a $15k motor/trans combo). Then you pay $5k usd for the reprogramming. Now you’re home free except for the driveshaft, subframe, diff, and axles. I basically don’t think you could do it for $25k cdn - it’s disgusting. #bmw

11k for a 540i is not a good buy at all, even at 99k kms..

e39 540s always get posted for 9-11k+.. they just don't sell for that kind of money. even this one has been relisted at least a few of times.

Curious why one may do this over an easily purchased 135i? Cause V8?

99.9999% of people wouldn't, because it's financially retarded. But that V8 is glorious, and the 128 is the better part of 500lbs lighter than an E92 M3.

Yep, I also looked into it. It turned from hey that's fucking awesome how can I do that, to oh fuck wife would definitely kill me.

One can dream though. And i'll definitely be dreaming about it when i go look at the car Thursday.
Anything i should be aware of when looking at the 1 series? aside from the fact if i dont fit comfortably in the drivers seats i wont be getting it:pokerface: #fatassproblems

JDMDreams 10-24-2018 09:33 AM

That's why I sold mine, at that km you're easily looking at $5k+ worth of work that needs to be done down the road. Timing chain guides, clutch, vanos, oil leaks, cooling system, then the valley pan gasket. This is all engine stuff before misc stuff like suspension, bushings, window regulators that fail.

To do a proper swap you'd need a full donor E9X M3 :alonehappy:

that V8 in the shorter chassis will really make a proper car out of it :lawl:
