Ditch the HP+ pads.
Great pads for street and autoX but you're gonna find them lacking quite a bit for the track.

Lots of options to go with for track pads

I got my dad a set of Carbotech XP 12 front XP 10 rear for his car for the upcoming track day at Ridge on April 26th

Let see how compare to my XP 10 / XP 8 setup i had before in my lotus

but after changing over to CL RC6 - its been nothing but amazing

oh and I daily these pads as well since im way too lazy to swap out the pads  they arent corrosive so.. it all good

dared3vil0 04-16-2015 07:46 AM

I've gotta' drive all the way to ORP and back (like 700KM each way) on the pads, and HP+ are semi streetable.

I also had HPS last year and I only experienced a bit of brake fade when we had a near 30 minute session and I was chasing someone, so I think i'll be okay with HP+ for now. Soon will be 6 piston GT500 Brembo's and XP10's, not to worry. :)

HP+ are completely streetable. Not too sure on your comment there.
Even if you had race pads on, you are not riding your brakes the whole way so that isn't that big of a deal.

HPS are total garbage. OEM pads are much better than those while being less noisy or dusty.

Make no mistake, the HP+ is not a track pad. I had them on the rear of my S2000 at Mission and they overheated and started to fall apart. :heckno:

trollguy 04-16-2015 10:29 AM

Yah, there is zero issue with driving to/fr the track with race pads. I drove my old car to ORP on Ferodo DS3000s.. and I will continue to drive with race pads to/fr the track. As little work as possible on the day of the event is always nice.

This also goes for Rcomps.. lol. I drove to ORP on my NT01s. Unless you are trying to win the HPDE championship, it won't matter too much IMHO. Hell, a friend of mine drove down to Packwood on his V710s.

SumAznGuy 04-16-2015 10:49 AM

I don't have too much experience with NT01's so I can't comment on those, but I did drive down to PIR on Victoracers and drove home on them in the S2000.
For autoX, I use to DD my A6's once they were no longer in their sweet spots.
For V710's, they handle heat cycles better than the purple crack. Too bad they don't make the V710's in a 225/45/13.

But as Trollguy said, lapping days are what they are. A chance to drive around at a higher pace and learn car control. You don't have to have the best of the best, but you also don't want to end your session/day early over things you can control.

With tires, you drive accordingly based on if you have R comps or super street tires.
You wouldn't bring snow tires to a track day.

Same thing goes for brakes. You don't want to end your session early because of your brake pads.
You also don't want to limp around the track to keep the brakes from overheating.

You know, I've always wanted to try doing a (spring / summer / fall) track day on snow tires, just to see what things would be like... :troll:

i daily dtc60, its fine... i dont care about my rims. didnt mind hp+ for track and daily but dtc is far superior, really depends whats more important to you. i have a set of ds2500 that i usually switch on for daily and autox but somewhere along the way i got really lazy. my buddy in the silver altezza got xp12 fronts and xp8 rear, pads were great, his choices was stupid... the bias was so off that id come out of the double apex sideways every time from braking

dared3vil0 04-16-2015 03:18 PM

^ Well that's the thing, I ran HPS at ORP last year and only got a bit of brake fade once, so this year with HP+ they will be obviously better.

belaud 04-16-2015 03:35 PM

Dailying my car with Club Racers, just need to hide your shameful face when the brakes squeak at every intersection :toot:

westopher 04-16-2015 03:46 PM

Lol, my car sounds like such a jalopy even with just ferodo ds2500s, and my polished LTWs are usually gunmetal grey. I can't imagine you guys with full on track pads.

My understanding is that the biggest difference between XP12's and 8's is how much heat they can handle.
Since 80% of the braking is done on the fronts, I don't think the issue with your friend's car is brake pad related.

It's an Altezza, lol. Isn't that the whole point?

trollguy 04-17-2015 12:43 PM

HP+ "streetable"

They work when they're cold tho. They do require temp management at mission so if I was to do it again I'd go with a track-spec brake pad.

But then again I pussied out and got into karts so what do I know

westopher 04-17-2015 02:40 PM

Anyone going to the PCA autocross on Saturday?

Would love to, but wifey will almost certainly KILL ME in some most gruesome manner if I were to disappear for the whole weekend because of motorsports stuff... :okay:

Ahh... the freedoms that I used to enjoy when I was single... :tears:

westopher 04-17-2015 02:53 PM

LOL I know the feeling. Wish I could come out on sunday with you guys, but I work sunday evenings. I'm looking forward to the VCMC day at Pacific Raceways this year!

dared3vil0 04-17-2015 02:57 PM

^ On VCMC's website they only show one track day, is that accurate?

I'm really looking forward to PR myself too. Ridge is a fantastic track, but I spent a lot of time at PR back when they had these all-you-can-drive winter track days, and it always feels good just to be back. Hopefully, we'd still get some good weather in early September and it'll be a blast.

Ugh... You're right. The track day page is not showing the full 2015 track schedule. FailFish

The full 2015 track day schedule is shown here:

2015 VCMC Track Day Programme

and the club will be heading down to the States on the following dates:

Mon, June 29 -- @The Ridge Motorsports Park
Fri, Sept 4 -- @Pacific Raceways

Details on the US track days to follow -- gotta get the Mission event taken care of before starting on another thing.

My HP+ never sounded like that on my S and ITR.
Whoever installed the pads for you might not have install the shims.
