Agreed - he wants to be here.

If Kesler wants out, then trade him now pls.

murd0c 06-27-2014 08:59 AM

Benning knows what he's doing, I have faith in him!!

Also Ekblad just in appearance and presence is what the Canucks need. A big, tough, good looking Canadian kid who could be captain material down the line

Reinhart by all accounts is not NHL ready, and bob Mckenzie has been on 1040 multiple times saying while his game is smart and he plays hard, his skating is questionable and he's undersized.

It's time to change the perception of the Canucls completely not keep going with this same undersized, soft type player who we continually bring in.

like i said before, based on history, as long as Canucks draft Ekblad with no. 2 (or later) he should have a good chance of turning out to be a franchise d :troll:

but at 1st overall? lol

Hondaracer 06-27-2014 09:10 AM

It isn't like taking him first or Somone else first is any different, the whole top 10 is a risk there's no locks.

Pressure on Dman to go #1 doesnt always work out :troll:

Vancouver media must be so fucking happy right now. Kesler trade, 6th overall draft, 1st overall trade, garrison, etc etc..

m3thods 06-27-2014 09:27 AM

If anything, Eckblad coming here would be a great fit. There are other defensemen in front of him that can teach him properly, unlike in Edmonton where he'd automatically be the number 1. Eckblad would be able to play bottom 6 minutes on the Canucks and eventually set them up for the next decade assuming he pans out (and that's an assumption we all make with all draft picks in the top 10, regardless of position).

As much as I'd like the Canucks to draft Eckblad given the number 1 pick, they need help down the middle much more so it'd be Reinhart they pick (again, given they have the first pick from FLA).

6o4__boi 06-27-2014 09:37 AM

I'm not saying fuckitall let's draft Reinhart, i think the Canucks need some grit, but they definitely need all the scoring they can get. I just don't think Ekblad is worth it at 1st overall, at least in the hypothetical (and probably unlikely situation) that the Canucks take top pick. Frankly, our d is decent, i think that if we're going to get a stud d, it would come from development like most stud d's out there.

The main argument is that Reinhart is "too small" and not "NHL ready" He's 6'1, 185 lbs, that's essentially every forward prospects average height and weight these recent years, so...how is that 'too small'?. Except for generational players, who is actually NHL ready? Check out these previous stats: (i know i'm using a lot of oiler stats but they do say something so bear with me)

Nail Yakupov
48 GP, 17 G, 31 pts - rookie season
Height 5 ft 11 in
Weight 186 lb

RNH
62 GP, 18 G, 52 pts - rookie season
Height 6 ft 1 in
Weight 185 lb

Nathan Mackinnon
82 GP, 24 G, 63 pts - rookie season
Height 6 ft 0 in
Weight 182 lb

Taylor Hall
65 GP, 22 G, 42 pts - rookie season
Height 6 ft 1 in (185 cm)
Weight 201 lb
(this is his weight now but i'd imagine he was a little lighter in his rookie year)

Heck let's include special status John Tavares just for comparison's sake:
82 GP, 24 G, 54 pts - rookie season
Height 6 ft 1 in (185 cm)
Weight 205 lb - again, pretty sure he wasn't 205 in his rookie year.

I don't know about you but imo except maybe for Mackinnon (and obviously Tavares), most of these guys were in ok drafts. But look at the points/goals they put up in their first season. Now look at their size. None of them were particularly huge, heck Reinhart is pretty much the same size as MacKinnon at this point. (Also, I know that this is looking at things pretty optimistically)Let's assume based on these past drafts that Reinhart plays ~50 Games, pots in 18 goals and 40 pts. Let's also assume that Ekblad plays ~50, pots 5 goals and 20 pts as a 2nd pairing d. I know this is comparing apples and oranges but from watching the last two seasons, as a Canucks fan, I'd pick Reinhart and his 40pts any day over whatever Ekblad can contribute. Because let's face it, how often do 1st overall d actually pan out? The chances of Ekblad being a shitty d is relatively high based on history, and the chances of a stud defenceman emerging from within our prospects down the road is pretty likely as this is traditionally where great defencemen come from.

With Sbisa, there is no doubt that a D from Vancouver is going to be traded.

highfive 06-27-2014 09:55 AM

Not even the 10th overall pick.

xeryusx 06-27-2014 09:56 AM

I guess they're not using Kesler for #1 pick. But the return from Anaheim, really?

Weren't half of you guys saying we should dump next season to land McDavid?

You guys switch positions more often than kids playing music chairs.

I'm a pretty big fan of Sbisa though.
