Wouldn't surprise me one bit if this happened.

highfive 06-27-2014 08:07 AM

Wouldn't surprise me either. I feel that Kesler side is more desperate to get a trade than the Canucks.

I forgot was it Benning who said the best time to trade someone like Kesler would be the trade deadline as all the teams are playing and they know who's most likely going into the playoffs and the strengths and weaknesses of each team. Whereas during the summer months, nobody is playing hockey so they really don't give a shit much on trades.

Still looking forward to who the Canucks take at #6 tho (if the pick is kept)

Hondaracer 06-27-2014 08:15 AM

If they do trade up and take Reinhart gonna be fuckin choked.

Also, I guess buffalo is in rebuild mode so they'd probably want just as much as FLA but surprised no ones really mentioned any possibility of getting the 2nd overall in a deal. Basically gonna get either ekblad or Reinhart either way

Mike Oxbig 06-27-2014 08:18 AM

I rather have a 3 way deal Kesler to FLA for the 1st and Chicago gives FLA whatever they want.

6th OA (ritchie, nylander, ehlers) + shinkaruk + tanev for ekblad/reinhart? Kinda too much

Why? I'm guessing you'd want Ekblad?

Unless Ekblad is a center (which he isn't), and can replace Kesler on the 2nd line (which he can't), I have no interest in taking him at #1.

"but he's a franchise d-man!". Yeah so was Erik Johnson at #1 overall right? :lol

Ch28 06-27-2014 08:20 AM

John Shannon just said on FAN 590 that Anaheim and Vancouver had an agreed upon deal for Kesler at the deadline and Kesler's family nixed it

Why are the Canucks giving Kesler so much power? Just keep him here and fuck over his window of winning....

Cause he has a NTC and can decide where he goes?

Why keep a guy who doesn't wanna be here and let him walk in 2 years and get absolutely nothing in return?

Rather trade him now and get pick(s)/prospect(s)/roster player in return

Hondaracer 06-27-2014 08:25 AM

The thing with and taking Ekblad over Reinhart is that it's wayyy easier to obtain forwards for your team than it is to get great defenseman. You can always make trades and sign UFA's and typically there are always good forwards available while there are almost never top tier defenseman.

Also Ekblad just in appearance and presence is what the Canucks need. A big, tough, good looking Canadian kid who could be captain material down the line

Reinhart by all accounts is not NHL ready, and bob Mckenzie has been on 1040 multiple times saying while his game is smart and he plays hard, his skating is questionable and he's undersized.

It's time to change the perception of the Canucls completely not keep going with this same undersized, soft type player who we continually bring in.

And then you fuck with Canucks window of winning or rebuilding.

Why keep a player that doesn't want to be here?

Kinda spitting in players faces when you ask to waive a NTC a year into a contract

Very true but defenseman are impossible to predict. Since 2005: Jack and Erik Johnson, Thomas Hickey, Karl Alzner, Drew Doughty, Zach Bogosian, Alex Pietrangelo, Luke Schenn, Victor Hedman, Erik Gudbranson and Adam Larsson have all been taken at high picks.

How many of them are actually top pairing defensemen though? Besides Doughty and Pietrangelo, the rest are questionable at this point.

The Canucks don't really have an obvious positional need at defence like Florida, Buffalo, or Edmonton with Hamhuis/Garrison/Bieksa/Edler all locked up long term.

Ever since the Boston series the Canucks have tried to duplicate "the Boston model" by being a bigger team and it's failed horribly. You don't [necessarily] need size to win; you need skill. That's what the 2011 Canucks were--a team with skill who won with skill and speed. Hell even a small team like Montreal beat the Bruins in the playoffs :lol

Overall it's been a good debate the last few weeks in this thread on taking Ekblad or Reinhart at #1. We'll have to find out later today if the Canucks even get the pick lol

jeedee 06-27-2014 08:36 AM

damn.................he took less money to come home to Vancouver too....

murd0c 06-27-2014 08:37 AM

I really wonder who we would get for Garrison from MTL or TB tho?

will068 06-27-2014 08:38 AM

Just confirmed by Dale Tallon on TSN that the Canucks have made an offer for the first pick.

highfive 06-27-2014 08:38 AM

I feel bad for Garrison. He wants to come home and took less money.

He was perfect for the PP but felt like he never got the chance to. I much prefer Garrison over "I like to hold the puck till I lose it on the PP" Edler.

fsy82 06-27-2014 08:39 AM

what time does the draft start today?

hahaha...Garrison to TB for Salo... our PP would be saved!! Edler would be saved!!! :troll:

Jmac 06-27-2014 08:49 AM

Trading Garrison would be a mistake ...
