lol even though he has a gritty player for the amount of points ryan callahan gets, hes getting a shit load of money
kind of like dustin brown, except brown is a winner

but at least Yzerman was able to retain Callahan after losing his star in St Louis.

slicrick 06-25-2014 03:41 PM

TBL got NYR 2014 1st and conditional 2nd which is now going to be NYR 2015 1st since NYR made it to the ECF and now that Callahan re-signed TBL gives NYR their 2014 2nd round and NYR gives their 7th round pick this year

So now after all is said and done that deal ended up being

NYR 2014 1st round pick
NYR 2015 1st round pick
NYR 2015 7th round pick
Ryan Callahan

for

TBL 2015 2nd round pick
Marty St Louis

The only part I didn't like was the length, the cap hit is really good

i thought the cap penalty applies to guys who signed the contract at age 35 and up and then they retire early.

Lol of the 1000's of speculations/possible scenarios you've posted over the years, you finally get one that may become a reality and you boast about it? :fuckthatshit:

I was wrong about the NYR 7th and TBL 2nd both of those are for 2015 not 2014

Lightning trade St. Louis to Rangers for Callahan, picks
Quote:

The Tampa Bay Lightning have traded their leading scorer, Martin St. Louis, to the New York Rangers in exchange for their captain, Ryan Callahan along with a 2015 first-round and a conditional 2014 second-round draft pick.

Should the Rangers advance to the 2014 Eastern Conference Final, the 2014 second-rounder would become a first-round pick. In the event Callahan should re-sign with the Lightning, the Rangers would receive Tampa Bay's second-round pick at the 2015 NHL Draft while the Lightning would receive the Rangers' seventh-round draft pick in 2015.

Ryan Miller is a goalie we do not need.
but knowing the agenda of the Aquaman...

Playoffs > anything

murd0c 06-25-2014 07:16 PM

we need anything thats better then the pair we have right now and for the right price how could we complain.

Mike Oxbig 06-25-2014 07:50 PM

rather tank for mcdavid and let our young players learn to lose before winning

pastarocket 06-25-2014 07:58 PM

Personal reasons for Miller may make him decide to come to our city. If the price is right for our team, why not?

It's no secret that Benning knows Miller back from the days that he drafted him to play for the Sabres. He wants to play on the west coast so that he can stay closer to his actress wife who works in Hollywood.

I'm predicting that we'll see this couple in Vancouver soon:

The #Canucks also playing phone tag with Jonas Hiller's agent - but he also represents Deryk Engelland and Joe Vitale.

cheaper, younger, can do a 1A/1B with Lack, probably can do shorter term cause of that since he just wants/needs a change in environment

would be beyond stupid signing Miller :fuckthatshit:

edit: article on canucks.com

Quote:

“The decisions I’ve made prior to this and this week will really shape this organization’s future. I’m keenly aware of that and recognize all our Canucks fans back in BC watching what we do here. We’ve got to pick the right player.”

If Trevor Linden is feeling any pressure going into his first NHL Draft as president of the Vancouver Canucks, he isn’t showing it.

Linden stepped out of a team draft meeting Wednesday afternoon to provide some insight into what the Canucks are looking to do during the 2014 Draft, taking place Friday and Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Much of the team’s preparations involve varying scenarios and a plan on how they’ll react after the first five picks are made.

Unless Vancouver has one of those top five picks, that is.

“We’ve made an effort to move and I’m not sure that’s going to happen, so we’ll just kind of watch and see what happens,” said Linden, not tipping his hat about if the Canucks are attempting to move up or down from their sixth overall selection.

“I think we came away from Whistler with a real solid plan, I think we’ll go over that and tweak it, there may be a couple changes.”

If changes are made, GM Jim Benning is likely behind them.

Linden said Benning is becoming notorious for plastering his office with posters of ever-changing rosters and notes on players as he continues to work on building the best Canucks team possible.

”I like to write different line-ups out, then I stick them up on the wall and stare at them and decide if I think we can do something to make it work and if that’s a line-up that I think we can win with,” revealed Benning.

“That’s an ongoing process, every hour it changes, but we’re trying to buckle down here and get to what we need to do to make the team better.”

Improving the Canucks could come via trade and Benning said he spoke with 12-15 teams Wednesday about “moving up and moving down in the draft and different trade scenarios.”

There’s been more talk this year than usual according to various sources and while talk is cheap, the consensus seems to be that Florida would trade the first overall selection for the right pieces in return. Does Vancouver have those pieces and is moving up even their strategy?

Benning wouldn’t name names in terms of prospects who have made it up onto the wall in his office as part of the Canucks line-up, but he knows the intangibles he wants in incoming players.

”In our division there’s some really good teams and they’re big and they’re fast, so we talked about that going forward, about getting back to drafting good skaters with some size and speed.

”Today we went over our list again, first round and second round scenarios and what players we like later on in the draft, if we think we’re going to be there. So we’re going to keep at that, tomorrow’s another day, we’ll touch up on guys we really like and want to draft and be ready to go on Friday.”

bold probably means offer was made, but not rejected, and still on the table

murd0c 06-25-2014 08:34 PM

we always heard over the years Canucks trying to land players and it not working out, lets just hope Benning is the kind of closer we think he is!!

Stupid enough to land us McDavid? I'm in.

Mike Oxbig 06-25-2014 11:09 PM

Fuck summer hearsay UFA signings... the Forsberg wanting to play with Naslund in Vancouver was the end of hearing those type of bullshit!

:QQ:

EuterVanWasser 06-26-2014 06:21 AM

Man it would be great if we went after Schneider again at UFA, but something about the way he left strikes me as he wanted out. Maybe it was the whole Luongo thing grating on him, but I suspect he wanted to go back to the States. Don't know.

Hiller though is a solid goalie. Both NHL and International play, he can be a game changer. If we could pull a Kesler trade with Anaheim that somehow landed us both Hiller and their #10 spot; that would be some sharp GM'gineering.

Ahh... summer time speculation!

What do you mean he wanted out?

IMO he was only traded because Luongo was "untradeable" (at the time; Florida had no interest acquiring him)

I don't think he left on bad terms with the Canucks...but who knows. When he was promised the starter job AND THEN was traded.....might have made him sour

Ch28 06-26-2014 06:59 AM

I remember someone mentioned he wanted out cause Kesler laid the pipe into his wife.

That was the rumour I think.

But do we really want a 29 years old goalie going to 30? He most likely want a long term contract with big money.

If lack performs well this year, I much rather go with lack.

Tried listening to the morning show today since its getting close to the draft and ufa day. Holy shit is Pratt and bro terrible... If Canucks want to rebuild their image, they need to get rid of these fucks. Same with Barry Mac and his group of hyenas.

A goalie enters his prime years when he's 27-37 (estimate). We had Luongo till he was 34 and you're complaining about Schneider being 30? Please :lol

Eddie Lack is 26 and will be 30 in 4 years...and he hasn't even hit his prime years yet.

Are you forgetting Luongo was on a "long term contract with big money" as well?

That's what I'm saying. Do we want to get tied into a long term contract again?

Cory going to demand $5+ probably depending on the cap.

punkwax 06-26-2014 08:12 AM

Heard today with the new cap Toews/Kane could get upward of 10-12M per season...

12,000,000 / 82 games = $146,341.46 per game

20 mins / game = $7317.07 per minute... imagine going back to the bench after a 30 second shift and you just made over $3650 :ahwow:

as long as its not a long term contract with a NTC :troll:

The salary cap most likely will go up in the future. 5M for a legit starter is nothing
