$25 mil is a small price to pay to be left alone.... just ask all the people who got addicted to drugs, alcohol, or even killed themselves because of fame.

Unless you pretty much don't change your lifestyle whatsoever with the $25M, which kind of defeats the purpose of having that much money, chances are people will eventually figure it out anyway.

I'll take the full $50M and deal with it.

Ulic Qel-Droma 04-28-2015 10:08 AM

lol i would totally just deal with it.

i wouldnt loan people money. i would just be an ass about it.

i would just go on vacation for a year and like... go do my own shit. why would these people affect you anyway?

if anything the big payout is actually lifting a curtain on everyone's fake ass personalities, revealing their true nature.

if u have 50 million and you have to hide... you don't know how to use money.

lol. who says you even have to stay in vancouver.

ditch the losers that try to leech off you and find other people with similar wealth, and they won't give a shit about your bank roll.

You already get less than half the 50 mill when claim the money upfront

You don't lose any money in Canada since they don't tax on lottery winnings

i think hes referring to an annuity as opposed to a lump sum. i dont think the 6/49 is an annuity so it wouldnt apply

Manic! 04-28-2015 12:48 PM

Lotto in Canada is a lump sum.

Other than the "Set For Life", this is correct - lottery winnings fall under "windfall" exemption from income taxes.

Of course if you decide to just stick it in the bank and live off the interest, that interest is taxed.

quasi 04-28-2015 05:14 PM

In the US they take half, here you get it all. I'm sure one day the Govt. will decide it can help balance the budget by taxing jackpots and make it a reality.

Hehe 04-28-2015 05:57 PM

I think by having to announce the name, the whole lottery thing has a lot more accountability and allow the public to know the game isn't rigged.

If they never release any names, then there's never a way to verify if indeed a real person has claim the price. That's the case with lottery in Taiwan. News always come up with some fancy story about lottery winners, but the fact is, no one ever know any lottery winner.

Lottery will not make you happy. You will not trust your friends anymore.
The new people, new coworkers, new girls you meet, you would wonder if they want to hang out with you because you got muti-million $.

They even have lottery winners' club(or association) where lottery winners become friend with other lottery winners. So that you know they are not approaching you for cash. Lottery winners have serious problem trusting people and making new friends.

Nobody remembers last lottery winner because you probably didn't know them, if you did, you would remember them. You win a lottery and buy your P1 and Veyron, people are gonna look at you like a loser.

Whereas if you're CEO of something and earned your money, well that would be different.

People will look down upon lottery winners, it's just a fact. I believe AMEX won't even let lottery winners have their Black Card since they lack social status.

And internet will remember you forever so new people you meet can search your name and find out too.

FYI, a donkey can get a black card if it pays it's annual fee.
The black card isn't so private anymore.

Do you even pay tax? Even the highest tax bracket doesn't give more than 47.xx%

The jackpots are potentially bigger though (e.g. state powerball lottos) .

Then again, what a nice problem to have.

Wasn't referring to tax. Lump sum vs multiple payouts

mr_chin 04-29-2015 01:46 AM

If you shove all $50 mill into a TFSA at 2.2%, would you be getting $1.1 mill yearly. That's $91.6k a month... lol?

StylinRed 04-29-2015 03:08 AM

Im curious if the ticket isn't the winners...or if the ticket should be a shared winning and the claimant is trying to hide that fact

And how long would it take until you have $50 million in contribution space for a TFSA when it is $about $5500-$6000 a year?

Whats the point of marketing lotto max at 50m when in fact you only get around 37m?

always thought theres an option, like 2m a year over 25 years vs approx 37m upfront

Don't think that's how it works. You get the entire sum up front.
