If you want to get into semantics, the NHL trade deadline in 2016 is February 29th, 2016 at EXACTLY 3:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. All trades must be made BEFORE that time. so even 2:59:59PM is not on the deadline, but technically before the deadline.

The trades have to be submitted by the 3pm est but some don't come out until later since they have to be approved by the NHL first.
