I saw that Tesla discounted their RWD model Y to below 50k. its eligible now too, but youre still paying 700 bucks a month even after the government discount and you gotta deal with all tesla baggage.

Tesla discount is a pretty big deal, feel like most people would want to get that.

6kWh is fine.
Most RAV4 and Prius Prime recharge at 3kWh.
Pacifica caps out at 6.6.
Jeep 4XE caps out at 7.2.

If you want fast recharge, DCFC is more widely available in most places anyways.
MB/Mitsubishi PHEV support 60kw DCFC.

yeah the original stations with 2 plugs were terrible
all the new site rollouts are all 6/10/18 plugs with a mix of NACS and CCS

I hate that BC Hydro doesn't have the level 2 J1772 plug for peasants like me.

Yeahh they're really only building out DCFC.

To be fair, I think Lv 2 is better handled by workplaces and municipalities where you will spend 2+ hours at a time.

I also noticed the rates at the gym isnt that great. i thought it would be cheaper, but its slow and relatively more money than if i charged at home.

I was going to try my CCS -> NACS adapter, but at those prices, i was like fuck that shit.

noclue 03-03-2026 09:02 AM

The amount you drive + charging at work you can get by with just a regular level 1 120v plug at home no problemo.

Tesla still leading the game in terms of UI and the mobile app. If they bring back model Y premium AWD from China and maybe the extended length version and cut the price it'll probably be the top choice for many. But still gotta see what chinese EV's are going to be offered here.

Badhobz 03-03-2026 09:08 AM

The other problem with tesla is the residuals are dog shit. Thats why its 200 bucks more per month than my Subaru, while being 10k cheaper MSRP. Mines 58k, this is 49k.

At the end of the lease, youve essentially paid off majority of the car. At that point its not even feasible to return it, youre better off to buy it out and driving it into the ground.

My lease end buyout is 28k, which is roughly 50%. this is inline with most toyota products for a 48 month lease.

noclue 03-03-2026 09:13 AM

Tesla you cant buyout a lease, you must return. So even worse.

Badhobz 03-03-2026 09:18 AM

^i didnt even know that... wow. fuck you some more elon you uppity little bitch.

bcrdukes 03-03-2026 09:18 AM

lol wut

That's quite the business model.

noclue 03-03-2026 09:19 AM

SOMEONE will come here and argue why it's a good thing, that mandatory lease returns will provides tesla with inventory to roll out the robotaxis at a depreciated cost.

Tesla has quietly changed its lease end policy to allow for lease buyouts now:

https://driveteslacanada.ca/model-3/...lease-buyouts/

But it is not obvious to me whether the change only applies to new leases, or whether they'd apply to existing leases as well.
