It's really disappointing to hear there hasn't been much progress in terms of leads, stay vigilant everyone:

Murder of 13 year old girl was random attack: IHIT - NEWS 1130

Marrisa Shen murder was ?random attack?: police | Globalnews.ca
random attack makes it even worse, less chances to catch someone imo. Like that dude that was killed in Stanley Park not long ago, cops didn't get anyone as far as I know.

There is also an 11yo missing in Stanley Park now

Yeah, heard that today, too. I hope the two are not connected somehow. It's a nightmare being a parent. Always worried about your children. Such a messed up world we live in. I hope they find the little boy.

- kT 07-26-2017 09:49 PM

they found the boy in new west 5 hours after

I found this, from another article, interesting too

Today, Supt. Chuck McDonald stepped up those warnings, saying specifically people should "exercise caution around here," meaning the popular 86-hectare urban park where Shen's body was found.

aren't majority of stranger danger random and not pre-meditated?

It's kind of shocking to see warnings like this going out for Central Park. I've lived in the area for like 26 years and always remembered it being so safe during the day and evening. It's sad that the area has turned into a spot where people now need to actively exercise caution

- kT 07-26-2017 10:45 PM

^ I found a few things that referenced a film crew being in the area the night she died. found this shortly after

what does IHIT hope to protect by not giving the public more details a week later?

we still dont know where she went...was she just going for a bike ride in the park. or just around the corner to get milk.

where were the parents

was she with friends

content of her last text etc

it's not like this is a gangland shooting where they're coming up with good leads that they're worried about blowing 48-72 hours in, at least the articles suggest they still don't have any good leads right now and that it was just likely done by seedy characters.

Isn't stranger danger by definition random and not pre-medidated?

:suspicious:

twitchyzero 07-26-2017 11:31 PM

i meant to say potential sexual assault and homicide of minors
stranger danger could still be planned...they planned to pull up to a school in a van, just that a victim hasn't been picked yet. Versus opportunisitc/spur of the moment

A stranger can still fixate on a particular person.

exactly what I was thinking, unless they do have a suspect but not enough to press charges as of yet (which is why they're still canvassing the park) - but no autopsy reports, no time of death (to account for the 7 hour window from when she was last seen to when her body was found), whether or not a sexual assault took place, who she last texted at 5pm, etc. they've remained completely tight lipped and thus far have only told people to remain vigilant. parents are completely spooked right now (rightfully so) so any info for the public would be great. don't get it, but I guess time will tell

11 year old boy biking with family at stanley park and then goes missing.
How does he end up in New West? I don't believe he biked all the way to New West.

Also, in the above article about shady people at Central Park/ Patterson. Is he referring to drug addicts? Homeless people? What kind of people gather there at night?

even if they had an idea where to look in the park, no way they'd have enough manpower to canvass at midnight and have near-immediate results.

I was actually passing by the park around 1030 and there was a film crew all down Patterson. Cant say how many were actually in the park but there were lots of vehicles. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the crew happened to come across the body or if they heard there was a missing child and a team went for a walk around.

Harvey Specter 08-01-2017 12:15 PM

Just throwing this out there but could the suspect be a crew member?

- kT 08-01-2017 08:04 PM

^ thought crossed my mind too when i heard there was a film crew, but they've been pretty upfront about their presence there that night, so you'd think the investigators would've thoroughly examined that as potential evidence. you'd hope anyway?

i also read an article a little while back that said the police found her via gps to her phone

G0rilla 08-01-2017 10:35 PM

A friend of mine was on the film crew that night, all film members present that night has had all their information forwarded to the RCMP. It could definitely be a possibility tho, I've heard that there isn't much of a background check and also they hire alot of extras

twitchyzero 08-24-2017 10:07 AM

- last seen alive before 8pm
- homicide occurred in the park
- 90 PoI
- police asking for footage from the vigil and funeral

IHIT narrows timeline on Marrisa Shen homicide, looking for video from vigil and funeral - BC | Globalnews.ca

Wetordry 08-24-2017 10:58 AM

so silly, why didnt police record the vigil and funeral in the first place

68style 08-24-2017 03:25 PM

^ How do you know they didn't and just want more angles/perspectives?

mr_chin 08-24-2017 04:47 PM

How can someone find a body at 1 a.m? That person is a suspect.

twitchyzero 08-24-2017 09:39 PM

i'm curious how that tape would help, unless they coerced a suspect into a confession.

the thought of the killer at the memorial makes this just that much more depressing

you're never out at 1AM?

Raid3n 08-25-2017 10:35 PM

also it says the body was found by authorities at 1am

Mr.Money 08-25-2017 11:02 PM

so nobody really knows who found the victim...would be sketchy to be anyone else there besides homeless people and drug dealers.
