Police ID 13-year-old girl found dead in Burnaby park - NEWS 1130

i grew up around Central Park so this hits very, very close to home

please be vigilant as always

so sad rip

Inaii 07-19-2017 07:07 PM

I grew up a block away from the park. We all knew not to go near it after it started to get dark (wild animals and who knows what else). I don't know what happened to this poor girl, but may she RIP and I hope her family gets the answers and closure they need.

Retrac 07-19-2017 07:19 PM

RIP hope justice is served.

Badhobz 07-19-2017 07:34 PM

That's messed up. I can't image what her parents are going through.

iwantaskyline 07-19-2017 07:50 PM

Very sad, hoping for justice.

Teach your kids/loved ones if they are ever in a scary situation with someone unknown to do whatever you can to prevent them from taking you to a second location, if you are taken to a second location you are 99% for sure dead.

RIP.

Ugh. This news is terrible.

As a parent of 3 kids, I'm always advocating for my wife to be more comfortable with my eldest 2 being able to roam free and explore the neighbourhood on their own like I did at their age. The things I had experienced at the same age that they haven't as of today makes me wonder if we're doing it right sometimes.

Then something this happens... and I second guess myself. Things just ain't what they used to be.

RIP

westopher 07-19-2017 08:41 PM

What kind of piece of fucking garbage can commit such a heinous act on a child. So sorry for what her family and friends are going through.

twitchyzero 07-19-2017 09:14 PM

might not be relevant to the tragedy

but probably a good time to remind your family and friends who must walk alone at night to put their phones and earbuds away!

MG1 07-19-2017 09:42 PM

RIP.........

is it really worst though? We're much much denser now and reports like this are still far and few between.

StylinRed 07-20-2017 12:33 AM

Things like this happened when we were kids and when our parents were kids (guys remember Michael dunahee? etc)

Parents will always parent but let em live a little or they'll grow up to be the weird kid that may end up shooting a place up

Ch28 07-20-2017 12:38 AM

RIP to the girl.

I wonder how they even found the body. I used to ride my bike through the Central Park trails during high school, and once it got dark, it got dark FAST. The canopy is so thick (especially the area that the girl was found) that you're in pitch black darkness where you couldn't even see your hand if you put it right in front of you.

And also in the modern age of the Internet and social media these stories get shared and viewed by more people

RIP to the little girl. It's one thing to kill an adult but to kill a pure and innocent child who has probably never done anything to you is just something else...

dbaz 07-20-2017 07:04 AM

Very sad to hear.

I've been warning family in the area for a couple years to be careful, Burnaby is letting that area rot. The whole area below the skytrain from central park to nelson has become a complete shit show the last couple years, progressively worse each year. Homeless people climbing buildings to sleep on porches, junkies shooting up beside community programs for kids in Maywood park, needles constantly on the field and playground at the school on Imperial, lack of motor skills from people living in the new building, piles of garbage being left everywhere in the open, and the mayor doesn't want to do shit about it so he has an excuse to tear down the area faster

It's changed a lot. There's a lot less in there now due to city work/movies, there's also a lot of people that live in there now who make their own paths and areas.

What's really fucked up is that I still remember when I was in grade 4, just outside of the school grounds, there's lots of cars parked around for parents to pick up their kids. I literally lived across the street so as I was waiting for the crosswalk light, a minivan pulls up and this man asks me if I need a ride home?

I quickly said "no...." and stopped talking to him. My thought process was cause I lived across the street, why would I need help, right? I didn't think much more of this scenario later in my life. I kept thinking maybe it was just a classmate in the car and saw me and told his dad to give me a lift...

But thinking back, it kind of scares me that if I DID live farther, would I have been stupid enough to actually get in. Maybe not, but damn... did I just dodge a bullet?? Good thing he didn't tell me he had candy or POGS or something. :heckno:

RIP. There is no justice for this crime.

Death of Marrisa Shen, 13, now considered a homicide, say RCMP - British Columbia - CBC News

this story makes my skin crawl just as much as the elisa lam one.. there's a lot of conflicting information about the video too, whether she was entering or leaving, and whether it was her residence

and how did police find her only 2 hours after she was reported missing, in a densely wooded park at night?

hope they catch whoever did this soon, feel like this has really hit close to home for a lot of people.. RIP to the poor girl :(

twitchyzero 07-20-2017 10:29 PM

someone must have tipped them off..or an obvious trail left behind

even if they had an idea where to look in the park, no way they'd have enough manpower to canvass at midnight and have near-immediate results.

Police are not saying what led them to Shen's body less than three hours after she was reported missing.
