Nobody wants to argue about what’s real or not real. We all have our own lives and doing reasonably well and everyone has challenges, but as you may have ascertained in your own life of being “woken up” or whatever YOU want to call it involves going down your path, thanks but no thanks. When I came back in the door, I did not see any sign that said I needed to ascribe to any particular policital leaning to voice an opinion. One thing I've noticed is that when you spend your life with (white male) privilege, other people being offered equal opportunities seems like oppression by comparison to your previous experience. Do I think governments should be putting programs in place to help marginalized white kids succeed as well? Fuck yes I do. People should be able to pursue education regardless of financial upbringing. Poor white kids deserve every opportunity as well, but if you look at a well parented, middle class indigenous kid, compared to the same upbringing white kid, there do need to be things in place that give the indigenous person the same chance, because in the hiring world, history shows it DOES make a difference what background and race/ethnicity the person walking through the door for an interview is.

Government policy is what made people unequal in the first place, so yes it is their job to fix it.
