I would be very interested in seeing which of his voter/supporter demographic benefited most from his presidency.

Wonder if they’ll find a way to keep high end Swiss watches tax free in the USA like they’ve always strangely been lol

underscore 04-02-2025 02:24 PM

Wtf did Sri Lanka and Cambodia do? Lol

68style 04-02-2025 02:29 PM

Apparently Sri Lanka does women’s underwear (lol) and Cambodia does tonnes of big name shoes

SkinnyPupp 04-02-2025 02:32 PM

So Trump says he's setting tariffs at a rate of half of what they are charging on the US

https://i.imgur.com/N2ceUAK.png

He claims Vietnam is charging 90% tariffs on US goods.

Maybe there's a category where they are charging 90%. They actually dropped many, knowing this was coming. Natural gas dropped from 5% to 2%. Cars dropped to 32%, ethanol to 5%

Not sure where the 90% is coming from. Anyway, get ready for Air Jordans to cost $900 at Foot Locker

CivicBlues 04-02-2025 02:41 PM

Look at all your clothing labels, they're made in places like Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh. Big FU to companies like the Gap.

Dumb fuck probably still thinks the US is still fighting a war with Vietnam.

Hondaracer 04-02-2025 02:48 PM

If it didn’t take a decade to build mega factories, transistor factories, bio-med facilities, all these policies might have some teeth.

Obviously that’s why Trump wants to push for the 3rd term because none of this shit is going to come to fruition in 4 years and if it’s all half way done and no one’s realized the savings or employment benefits, they will be done.

People shit on Tim Cook and Apple but I saw an interview where he basically said they would love to move production away from China for Apple products but the US does not have the manufacturing capability in terms of precision tooling.

He said China has hundreds of thousands of workers who are experienced with precise manufacturing whereas they’d be hard pressed to fill a single factory in the states with comparable labour. Whether it’s just BS or not he said it’s not “cheap” labour either and that ship had sailed long ago in terms of electronics manufacturing in China

Everyday items will suddenly become more expensive for the average American (I didn't say rich American!)

Do they even produce these things domestically? I don't think so? (Could be wrong!)

To Hondaracer's point, developing a skilled labour force doesn't happen overnight. While a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things, I always revert back to the example of bicycle manufacturing in America. Cannondale nearly went bankrupt and completely folded because "Made in America" which cost them dearly because their frames would crack while someone rode their bikes, earning them the nickname, Crackendale. Outsourcing manufacturing to Taiwan, who, at the time, and still to this day, leads in a skilled workforce and in metallurgy and welding technology so advanced it took the US nearly a decade to catch up (and I'm being generous!)

68style 04-02-2025 02:52 PM

I read a pretty in depth article last year on semiconductors and it said even if the USA started right now building factories for chips it would take them approximately 10 years to get to where Taiwan currently is with it nevermind how much farther Taiwan will go in that 10 years. No bueno.

90% of my clothing is made in USA or Canada or UK.

Manic! 04-02-2025 03:03 PM

Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are big in clothing industry. Bangladesh is the worlds second largest exporter of clothes in the world. I don't know why some people have such a hard on for low paying low skilled factory jobs.

Trump cares about the environment and child labour. Tariffs = less demand for these goods = less waste = positive overall impact to our environment.

Congrats. Do you think the average American can afford that option?
