Tonight's Leafs/Jets game will be broadcast nationally in the US, which is pretty rare. Hope it leads to more exposure of Canadian teams in the US.

In all seriousness though, coming out of the corner and scoring the OT winner reminded me of his gold-winning goal from the Olympics.

Wasn't talking about the goal. Every time they play each other the media compares the two..when there is no comparison

AzNightmare 10-24-2018 02:21 PM

Well, they are currently the two best players in the game right now. So comparisons will be made.

But imo, it's a no-brainer that Crosby's still better as of today, even if you exclude individual accomplishments. You can't underestimate the experience and hockey IQ Crosby has over him. And it's not like Crosby is a washed up "has-been".

If there was a hypothetical playoff game and you could only add one of them on your team, I would pick Crosby every time.

whitev70r 10-24-2018 02:34 PM

Comparison is always debated because people think immediate, now vs. lifetime achievement. If they just use today, this season, past 10 games ... Kessel has more pts than Crosby.

When Babcock says, 'until he gets 3 Cups and 2 Gold medals, Crosby is the best player '... he is obviously looking at it from lifetime. We just don't have that data for McDavid yet so it's not fair when you use that as a point of reference/comparison. (Even though if you project the crappy Oilers, common sense says no way he accomplishes Crosby's Cups and medals) ... but you never know, if Gretzsky can be traded so can McDavid. I mean if you put McDavid on a team like the Pens (Malkin, Fleury, Letang era ...), I'd think he could get 3 Cups.

I was attempting to discuss the goal rather than make a comparison of players. After the Calder race between Matthews and Laine from 2 seasons ago, I dislike arguing over player comparisons. You had those relentless rabid Finnish fans who wouldn't shut up about Laine or they would trash Matthews at any cost, and you had people valuing points only when the Calder is about the most outstanding rookie at any position including goalies and d.

Jmac 10-24-2018 04:33 PM

Crosby is still better than McDavid, I'd argue Ovechkin is, too. McDavid is fast and talented, no doubt, but he's nowhere near as complete of a player as Crosby and Ovi are right now.

mb_ 10-24-2018 07:38 PM

Faakkkk Bae and Edler out of the game due to injury

6thGear. 10-24-2018 07:47 PM

Apples and oranges comparing Crosby and Mcdavid. They are such different players. Mcdavid plays at a high rate of speed and can do pretty much everything at top speed. Crosby on the other hand is slow but is a relentless player using quick hands, deceptive maneuvers, quick turns on crazy edgework. I would say I they went 1 vs 1 it would be pretty even. If we talk about hardware, then only time will tell for Mcdavid. Give him the same amount of time and see what he can do.

With a back-to-back, who the hell is going to play tomorrow with all the injuries? They won't even make it to the game on time from Utica.

68style 10-24-2018 09:25 PM

Maybe Pettersson will be back tomorrow?

MDZ will be in for sure... :alonehappy:

No one going to talk about how Demko who got a concussion still hasn't played a single game?

Not unless you are a member of The Athletic. Botchford had a ton of insider info on the whole Demko concussion debacle.

That back check by BoHo in OT was awesome, potentially saved the game

bobbinka 10-24-2018 11:37 PM

Bo is the only man from the 1st PP not injured: Petterson, Boeser, Edler, Bae

And with Tanev sitting out half the 3rd period + OT... Yikes!

Bo definitely stepped up his game last night against Vegas. -played a strong two way game and scored goals to give the team a chance to win.

-great sign of a leader and a future captain for this franchise. Impressed!

My buddy was at the coaching day in BC on saturday and watched the Canucks practice. He said Pettersson was skating, but it was a casual skate, definitely not anything close to a hockey game.

Concussion protocol is moving forward with increased physical exertion in steps. If you suffer any sort of concussion related symptoms, you are forced to rest, and start over at step one again. You repeat this until you have no more concussion symptoms.

I've been through this myself recently after taking a skate to the forehead while making a sprawling save. I flashed out of consciousness, but being the trooper that I am, I finished the game (8 mins left in the 3rd). I still don't remember the score or how I got home. I do remember being sick to my stomach, with an incredibly cloudy brain. It wasn't until 3 days later when I didn't recognize a good friend that I realized how bad the head injury actually was and seeked medical attention.

Those head injuries are no joke now.

They 'sound' serious about it on the pro level nowadays, but if you read Athletic there's a super detailed look at concussion treatment and the NHL is actually not taking appropriate measures to treat them... ie: medicines that would allow chemicals to rush the brain for swelling reduction and other beneficial remedies are banned because they're precursors for performance enhancement drugs and things like this. It's certainly an interesting and developing topic. The NHL and every other league are WAY outdated on their treatment policies though... and as that article pointed out, every single team is different and following different directives... super inconsistent and some teams care more, some don't care at all. It's pretty crazy.

Also, Biega and Brisebois recalled... would imagine Brisebois is pressbox while MDZ and Biega play? Or both play and they put Biega at forward like they always seem to do at least once a season :(

Damn, Boucher is injured as well? He seemed to be playing so well, I was wondering why he didn't get called up. :okay:

Tanev is a game-time decision, so even Biega may not play.

Update:

bobbinka 10-25-2018 07:55 PM

so if you get your goons to rock the other teams' superstar player(s), you could force them out for 5+ games just because of the concussion protocol. :considered:
