I'm epic happy about Uber because it's ONE way to NEVER be cheated on cab rides ever again.

I've also had taxi not wanting to drive 2 blocks downtown train station due to too short of a distance.

This would never happen with Uber.

For those who are Uber drivers 1) you have to get your class 4 2) You have to claim your own taxes and earnings 3) you pay higher insurance to drive.

I can't see people making a solid living out of this.

I’ve taken quite a few ubers in different cities.

9/10 drivers are new to the country. General story, one family member moves to the country. Works 6 or 7 days a week driving for uber. You are your own boss. You make your own schedule. Make as much money as you like. They work their ass off to get the rest of their family over. Get a new car, I’m pretty sure they can write off their lease. Pretty much gaurenteed a job.

The other 10 percent are randoms. Career changes, retirees. Young adult Gypsies. I thought about doing it for fun, but insurance cost would probably kill that idea.

The Surrey Mayor is the biggest idiot, like more of an idiot than he ever was last time he was mayor before Watts. He's doing nothing more than pandering to a small minotiry. He doesn't give a fuck of anyone in Surrey East of 168th street, Fraser Heights or anyone in South Surrey.

This is just another thing to add to the list of fucked up things he's done since he became mayor again. Shit like cancelling the new ice rink in Cloverdale that is so long overdue, only taking the Skytrain to Fleetwood (Which I don't really care but many do). Then there is the whole getting rid of the RCMP in a short time frame at any cost to the tax payer zero fucks given.

He's like Surrey's Trump, he'll get interviewed and be like the people of Surrey do not want Ride Sharing..........be people he means the few cab drivers that live here.

6793026 01-25-2020 10:17 AM

He's not an idiot. It's politics. Taxi drivers / unions / groups are highly concentrated in Surrey / Langley. It was was the promise he made to the taxi drivers who got him the votes. So he has to suck it up and pretend he has / will be doing something to "help" with the situation.

Hondaracer 01-25-2020 10:30 AM

Well, regarding the idiot thing he is also trying to build a canal to turn surrey into Venice..

I understand that but it doesn't take away from the fact that's he's an idiot. I totally forgot about the canal, like Hondaracer said he wants to put a Canal in Bridgeview because he seen one in Venice and thought it would be a great idea. Even his own Councillors think he's deranged.

Current cutoff is 184th street in Surrey. Licensing is probably being worked out for Langley, so it's probably sooner rather than later.

They call him Doug Paji (brother) for a reason.

I hope the Vancouver Uber market doesn't run into the same issues as the Toronto market has developed over time.

I think most casual drivers have discovered that the decreasing rates (usually happens after they have saturation in a market) aren't worth the additional expense and hassle.

I'd say about half of my rides in Toronto have been a taxi like experience - drivers asking where I'm going via chat, taxi style aggressive driving, and driver's always on the phone.

twitchyzero 01-25-2020 08:32 PM

why would i care if my taxi driver is on the phone the whole ride or if he/she is wearing seat belt or not?

just get me to my destination without driving like a complete dick and have tires/brakes serviced routinely is all that matters

it only bothers me when i'm in a ghetto ass country and the taxi has giant crack across the windshield and the tires are completely bald and we have to use mountain highways :fuckthatshit:

Acura604 01-26-2020 07:26 AM

Took an uber from surrey today to yvr. $42.

It is easily 70 via cab.

Was a great experience

quasi 01-26-2020 09:28 AM

Looks like Uber/Lyft doesn't give a fuck what Mayor Dougie has to say, he has no power to stop them it's a Provincial issue so business as usual.

My last cab ride from YVR to surrey was 80 fucking dollars plus tip. Yeah, FOH with trying to stop it, Doug McBoomer.

Straight up piece of shit move by city of surrey.

I hope Dougie's putting as much effort into solving his city's drug and gun problem as he is into stopping the 'evilness' of ride sharing.

I'm glad I never stop in Surrey, not even for gas. I can wait till Langley...

twitchyzero 01-26-2020 10:31 PM

meter maids can issue tickets for failure to present business license?

talk about blindly following command

blkgsr 01-27-2020 07:46 AM

friends took an uber from port moody to DT, $30 which would normally cost atleast $70

Hondaracer 01-27-2020 08:58 AM

Lol fucking idiot has meter maids trying to catfish Uber drivers and ticket them as opposed to actually doing their job? Nice priorities.

100%, I'm going to assume that Uber will cover his fine and/or instruct him to dispute it and lawyer up for him. They need to get this into Provincial Court and see what happens hopefully winning and setting a precedence.

mb_ 01-27-2020 09:33 AM

Tried out Uber on Saturday night in DT, wait was a while but overall good experience. Guy was very friendly too. Can't complain too much since it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that there aren't many drivers available just yet.

blkgsr 01-27-2020 10:49 AM

what license do cab drivers have? Class 4?

if so i wonder how taxi drivers will just start driving their own cars??

That's one way to start a revolution.

Services like Uber and Lfyt are intended to disrupt the taxi industry. Let the disruption begin.

Hondaracer 01-27-2020 01:20 PM

I think that’s what happens in a tonne if plaxes when Uber comes in

It makes sense because say you’ve got a 2 driver partnership one drives through the day, one at night which seems to be a pretty common cab driver arrangement. Why would you bother paying those fees to take the cab from the company when together you could go lease a civic or somthing and avoid fees and the grip of the company all together

Surrey can't issue a ticket
