The real question is do they want him out so they can be less retarded, or more?

Yeah, I was legitimately concerned they would win. It was a huge relief when they didn't.

If we had more viable parties with a populist economic policy, and sans all the ridiculous culture-war bullshit, a center-right (conservative) party would likely do well.
The reality is the Con party both provincially and federally are a bunch of hack fucks that stand for nothing, and are completely in disarray. People are sick of their bullshit and hollow policy stances. Same thing is happening in the UK, where the bloody Reform party are leading in the polls.
Conservatism right now is fundamentally broken.

More bad news for BC's forestry industry: https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/1...350-jobs-lost/
A pulp mill on Vancouver Island is permanently ending operations, the latest mill to close in the province, affecting around 350 employees.
Domtar says in a statement that continued poor pricing for pulp and lack of access to affordable fibre in British Columbia necessitates the closure of its pulp mill in Crofton.
Domtar says it is exploring “a variety of possibilities” for the future of the site.
B.C. Forests Minister Ravi Parmar calls the closure “gut-wrenching for workers” in a statement and says the forest sector is facing pressures from volatile markets, low pulp prices, shrinking fibre, climate-driven wildfires, conservation measures, and U.S. duties and tariffs.
Meanwhile, the Opposition Conservatives are calling for Parmar to resign, saying in a statement that the closure is a clear sign that B.C.’s coastal forest sector is collapsing.
Last month, West Fraser Timber announced that it would permanently close its lumber mill in 100 Mile House with about 165 jobs by the end of 2025.
Softwood lumber tariffs are killing our forestry sector. It's all because of Cheeto!

How nice would it be to have a centrist party and leader, someone who can address issues that affect both sides.

After all, it was the court's / a judge's decision that threw everybody into the mess.
On the other hand, I feel like Eby's response is pretty bad. In particular, his messaging to the province is terrible. At times like this, political leaders need to assure the public that the situation is under control, and Eby just isn't giving off that reassurance.
Capability-wise, I don't suppose Eby is all that bad. However, his image / presentation, and mannerisms are not his strong suits. His ability to get his message across to constituents, in particular, is fairly poor. As much as I hate Danielle Smith, her presentation and mannerisms as a leadership figure is convincingly excellent. That is partly why she has such a strong following among the Alberta rednecks.

I’m not blaming eby about that. Courts aren’t under political party control I understand.
The issues I have is they promised
Patient ratios improving - they got worse AND the work short premiums for nurses were removed based on the GUARANFUCKINGTEE that problem would be solved.
More doctors - the entire OBGYN faculty in Kamloops resigned
$10/day childcare - what are we at 10%? Even fucking “I hate communism” Alberta is at like 90%
ICBC - it’s not losing any money anymore, all it took was for them to simply not insure us against property damage and injury. Got into an accident? Too fuckin bad. Here’s 10% of what you should be getting.

I know someone who owns a large trucking company with over 400 employee's. They haul lumber from the Island. They use to do 10 trucks to the US a week now they are down to 1.

^^ Don't forget they took already shitty driver training standards and made them even shittier... they literally do not care if people crash their cars anymore.
They'll ticket everyone who speeds a bit though!
As an aside, I cannot belive you can get your learners license in Alberta at fucking 14 years old. My nephew turns 13 this weekend and I feel like he just learned how to tie his own shoelaces recently.

OTOH, I think Eby knows the details better than Horgan - he's ultimately a policy wonk in the same way that Adrian Dix is one (also not a good communicator).
Disagree on the Danielle Smith one - I consider myself a feminist but I think she's a screechy liar who doesn't present as someone in command or one who is honest (at least not comparable to a Horgan, Layton, or Carney). Amongst Conservatives only Ford presents as somewhat agreeable (I don't like him though).

Danielle Smith seems like the type of woman who'd wear a strap on to fuck her men up the ass to assert her dominance. And maybe that's why those sort of men are into her...

I cringe and/or get upset on her lies as she tells them in front of the media with a straight face. All I'm saying is -- she is generally pretty good at presenting herself as a confident leader who knows what she is doing. At least, her support base is totally buying into her "leadership" qualities.
Whereas if it is Eby's turn to sell a rhetoric -- he is just not very good at it. When I look at his actual reasons being cited in the rhetoric -- usually they make good sense. But the way he is presenting them is just weak and/or somehow unconvincing. And thus the message doesn't get across. It is totally not helping him govern.
Another note about Danielle Smith is -- she is reasonably good at diverting attention away from controversies and scandals that is damaging to her political career. I can easily cite the AHS controversy, the notwithstanding clause outcries, the Alberta is calling campaign and how it backfired on her, etc. I am always surprised by how none of these have been able to stay longer in the headlines, and how they can't manage to bring her down (from her premiership). At the same time, I also notice how she is able to redirect the public's attention to something else when these scandals start to linger.
(Doug) Ford has an affinity for this sort of diversion tactic as well, and I think many of his scandals should have brought down his government a long time ago. But at least he is a lot less aggrevating than Danielle Smith, even though he and his ministers shamelessly lie through their teeth on a regular basis as well.

The Cons removed Rusty as their leader. https://vancouver.citynews.ca/2025/1...o-oust-rustad/
The B.C. Conservative caucus has ousted John Rustad from his position as party leader Wednesday, a source confirmed.
The move follows a letter to the party’s president, which claimed 20 Conservative MLAs have “executed” statements, saying they’ve lost confidence in him and want him out after months of inter-party turmoil.
