Leipsic was a free agent at the end of the season, so terminating his contract is basically just for PR.

What do you all think? They said they could use a number of arenas like Abbotsford, Pacific Coliseum, Rogers (of course), and maybe others like UBC, Copeland? It sounds like it could be for all 31 teams to play out regular season, then whatever playoff format looks like. Should be interesting. Would certainly give our local economy like hotels, restaurants a bit of a boost even to house the 900 players, coaches, trainers, and front office people. Vancouver could be hub city for NHL's return, B.C. premier confirms https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl...city-1.5568708
British Columbia is in the running to host NHL games if hockey is able to return this season.
Premier John Horgan confirmed Wednesday the province spoke with league commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly late Tuesday.

Although the league and owners want the TV contract revenues from one of their gravy trains, the televised games need to look good for us fans watching from our homes.
Of course, strict safety standards need to be met for all rinks in BC to protect everyone.

-articles about Demko keeping his mind and body sharp during this time near San Diego.
A recent text message from crease counterpart Jacob Markstrom, however, had him wishing he could trade the sun and sand for Sweden.
"He was like, 'I just got my gear shipped out. I'm skating tomorrow,'" Demko said. "I was just like, 'Oh my god that's awesome.' I would be in such a better mental state if I could be getting on the ice.
"I was joking with him that I might have to fly out there and crash on his couch."
Markstrom, the Canucks' No. 1 netminder, and other Swedish players have been allowed on the ice because officials there chose a different path compared to many countries — including Canada and the United States — with regards to lockdown rules during the novel coronavirus outbreak.
HockeyNews.se posted videos of Markstrom going through drills with two other goalies and a coach on Instagram, while New York Rangers veteran Henrik Lundqvist shared a clip on his official account of an empty locker room and pictures of on-ice action with the caption: "Back at it."

could you imagine if they made it so that physical contact was not allowed, spitting not allowed, and full face visors were mandatory? |

Our Canucks would play Minnesota under the proposed 24 team playoff format.
I like that match up. https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canu...yoffs-nhl-2020

the nhl draft might be quiet as fuck this year. If it’s before the season, can the traded players play for the cup after? Like how is that going to work? Lol

They should probably push the lottery draft and draft. If they wait until at least the play-in in round is complete it makes it a lot easier for teams to handle. They could complete a fair lottery draft.
There are some picks with conditions to what a team does in the playoffs, so if those got re-adjusted or just push the years back, they could run the full draft during the round of 16.
Teams would not be able to make trades and then have them play for the cup. But teams could easily create deals at the draft, and just have the team draft the player they want and trade after they are out of the playoffs, or future considerations. The 20-21 season would start in probably December so most trades would likely happen between September and December. Free agency would be pushed til then as well

Apparently we tried to sign Bolland to a deal “more lucrative” than what he signed for with Florida (5 x $5.5M, NMC) in 2014.
Benning dodged a bullet there (from his own gun).

it could be true because of benning being crap at fa signings, or it could just be bolland being bolland and making crap up.
According to reports the NHL lottery draft will include the 8 teams that dont make it past the play in round.. so Canucks could still end up with their pick this year

@PierreVLeBrun - NHL GMs' call went 1 hour 10 minutes. Sources say league unveiled 24-team format but couldn't give specific dates, which GMs had hoped for. Phase 3 (training camps) won't open before July, but no specific date (anywhere from July 1-15 start?) Phase 2 anywhere from June 1-8 start?

• The regular season is officially complete (from a stats perspective)
• 24 teams (top 12 in each conference based on points %)
• There will be 2 hub cities, one for the Eastern & one for the West.
• The NHL hub cities left in consideration include: Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Edmonton, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis/St.Paul, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Vancouver.
• The Canucks will play Minnesota in a best-of-5 qualifying round to get into the playoffs.
