Meanwhile for the unvaccinated, there have been 4 deaths, 5 in ICU, and 34 that required oxygen.

That's true, compared to each other, the bars aren't scaled at all. But I guess each bar is supposed to be on its own, so you get an idea of how effective the vaccine is compared to no vaccine, or partial. You can get covid and literally nothing will happen 99% of the time. Without it, there's a chance you'll have problems, especially if you're older, a smoker, or are out of shape, diabetic, high cholesterol, high bp, etc. (I've seen people use those conditions as an excuse not to get vaccinated, which is literally the opposite of what they should be doing)

yray 06-08-2021 03:05 PM

my dad got pfizer...

Really no excuses for anyone else not to get a vaccine if he went to get it :lol

Going off topic, the only place in Canada I've been to be Montreal, it was great! The food and the ... sights :ifyouknow:

What's in NF that is worth taking the flight over?
Maybe I'll do a Niagara Falls, islands trip.

Gotta drive the Cabot Trail. One of the highlights of my cross continent road trip.

Unforgettable.

Fully-vaccinated Canadians, permanent residents can soon skip hotel stay: Hajdu

MG1 06-09-2021 01:18 PM

LOL, Nooksack Casino just across the border at 264th exit sent a poll out to see if people would participate in a Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine clinic. I guess their band can get the stuff.

A good chunk of their clientele are Canadians, being 10 minutes from the border crossing. I'm pretty sure they can't vaccinate Canadians. US states like Cali are offering million dollar lottery tickets with vaccination.

The world is getting weirder by the minute.

Hondaracer 06-09-2021 01:20 PM

You can get vaccinated in the states if you’re Canadian. A bunch of these snowbirds who phone into 980 went down to Florida etc. And all got fully vaccinated long before Canada’s program was rolling.

They are planning somthing similar potentially in Pt.roberts to attract business, come down into the states get fully vaccinated then you can return to Canada without quarantine and support the businesses in pt.roberts

A family friend of mine did this. Flew down to help another family member in SoCal. Got both doses of pfizer down there with a minimal gap (3-4 weeks iirc). Came back up and their age group still wasn't offered first doses up here.

But there's like... literally nothing there lol

Hondaracer 06-09-2021 08:00 PM

I think it’s basically a ploy to encourage tourism and not have to do the 14 day quarantine

All the local seaside towns/cottages I had gone to last year for a weekend getaway have been all booked up since the second lockdown (e.g. Bowen Island). Might be a good option if they do indeed open up.

CivicBlues 06-10-2021 12:27 PM

Booked a weeks getaway in July in the Southern Gulf Islands in anticipation of the opening on June 15th. DBH better deliver!

Off topic, does anyone know if there's any sort of discount if you're taking like 5 BC ferries over a period of a week?

Hondaracer 06-10-2021 12:34 PM

Doubt it. Used to look into it to go to Sunshine Coast and there was nothing

I also am hoping the stupid deadline passes cause I’m heading to penticton on Thursday to guzzle some wine

I just came back from Gibsons. Nice and dead overall but the ferry was decently busy.
I booked 6 months in advance and got a place that had a refund policy.
The owner said her airBnB hasn't skipped a beat but some of the restaurants have been suffering.

westopher 06-10-2021 02:50 PM

Because restaurants weren’t legally allowed to have people in them but they did nothing to actually curb travel other than saying “don’t please unless you have money, you can still do whatever you feel like”

To that point my dads buddies (3/4 who are fully vaccinated) couldn’t drive to one of their places in sun peaks so they all just flew from Abbotsford to Kamloops and then took a limo to the sun peaks place to go golfing

Road check points only for da poor plebs

mikemhg 06-10-2021 05:33 PM

Pshhhh, just drive on weekdays.

Our trip a few weeks ago to Tofino and Jordan River didn't elicit a single question of essential travel from the BC Ferry ticket clerks, both on the way there, and on the way back.

Our trip a week or so ago to Osoyoos/Penticton same thing, not a single road block, not a single issue. We left on a Tuesday, came back on a Wednesday.

The RCMP were literally announcing when they were setting up their road blocks, days ahead of time, they're essentially giving you due diligence.

Hondaracer 06-10-2021 05:49 PM

Figured as much. Although had I known it was that definitive I probably would have went to the Okanagan earlier lol..

the prepaid experience card will give you a significant discount on certain smaller routes

we go to hornby a couple of times a year and it saves us about 75 bucks a trip.

i usually buy one at horseshoe bay on our way, because the clerks at the small terminals are real bitches about selling it to you on the spot to use right away (though you absolutely can do this)

then when you're done your trip you can burn whatever is left on the card to come home on the big boats (no discounts but you can use the credit)

twitchyzero 06-10-2021 07:42 PM

it’s not close to home but there’s no restrictions to Bowen and SSC...

I can just imagine how packed tofino will be in August

Got my 2nd Pfizer jab yesterday @ 'Fortius'. Pretty smooth operation. Same side effects as the first time around; lethargic, foggy headed, and arm a little sore. I slept for 12hrs last night which is extremely rare for me and I felt like I could still keep going.
