Poilievre has such a punchable face. His way of speaking also reeks of debate captain/aspiring career politician from his teenage years. He seems like he was the kind of kid that would tell the teacher that she forgot to give the class homework today. Yeah Downtown has gotten worse but it's not nearly as bad as the "oh it's total anarchy now! There's shit and needles everywhere!" pearl-clutching crowd. I find these type of statements are usually followed by "I never go downtown anymore I hear it's So DaNgErOuS!!" The whole world has gone down the right wing rabbit shit hole. From Turkey to the Philippines to the US, it's all reactionary to the inequities of society. The left says it has answers. The right says it has answers. Unfortunately, many people from the generations (boomer, Gen-x) who vote lean to the right and we end up with reactionary right-wing governments and their fuck-you-I-got-mine culture seeping through society. Canada is an outlier probably because our right wing is so fractured, giving the Liberals an easy win every time. However, I fail to see how our lowly PM is somehow responsible for any of these global trends. |
Canada and, by extension, Canadians individually are still riding a wave of importance from being an actual factor in turning the tide of WWII for the Allied Forces........... barring that, it's foolish to think our country has enough population or economic power to bring about any change in the world. Saying that any PM of a country as ineffectual as ours in international matters could have brought about or even contributed much to a mass world cultural shift seems laughable to me. California alone has more of an effect on the U.S. economy and politics than, say, the entirety of Canada ever could. We're like the smallest of potatoes here. The "nice" country. |
Whether it’s a politician, a group of people you don’t like or whatever, it’s easier to just blame who you don’t like and when you find an echo chamber it reassures you the path of least resistance is the “correct” one. |
If there was a conservative govt. in place for this current political climate I can pretty much guarantee you guys would not be throwing up your arms like this saying “ehh it’s a global issue what can you do?” Lol |
Would you think we were wrong? |
??? Do you have to be politically affiliated to see what's happening in the world? I feel neither liberal nor conservative as far as Canadian politics go, but I can sit here and say what's been described is accurate to what I see. |
I think people are far more willing to give Trudeaus liberals a pass albeit wrought with scandal throughout their entire tenure because this feeling that these values align more closely with their own as opposed to EVIL NAZI CONSERVATIVES!! I don’t think even the most hardened liberal supporter can’t say that JT’s politics don’t drive division in this country. And that’s on top of the global “right” movement which frankly I think only effects the fringes of Canadian society. |

Its creeping around the island. Even sleepy-ass Parksville that people only remember once a year because of the sandcastle contests is seeing a jump in what you're describing. I guess when you go for so long with only the occasional petty theft making the weekly newspaper and suddenly the big city problems have "come home" it gets scary really quick. |

Theft is a big problem in Nanaimo. If it's not bolted down good luck. We have low barrier housing in the North end. In the daytime you will see upwards of 10 to 12 shopping carts all in a row in front of the building. At night they are gone. The people living in the building use them to haul stuff they are stealing. You can see them at night hauling stuff in carts. |

Oh god. The last time I drove through front street in Nanamio I felt like I was in a zombie apocalypse. I literally had to drive around them pushing their carts in the middle of the road. |
It's been like 3 4 years since I've driven to Nanaimo it seemed very chill last time I was there and I didn't really notice any home less people. Port alberni on the other hand looks like a horror movie set. I was just at Victoria few months back and it seems fine too. Much better than our dt/ Hastings Street. Seattle dt is pretty bad too. As they aren't just in one area unlike us. |

Are you honestly upset that Trudeau doesn’t do anything egregious enough that people don’t get more upset at him? I mean, yes, regardless of what might be happening in a dark room somewhere, I honestly do prefer that my PM has a press conference to denounce racism (for example) rather than telling extremist groups to go home and that he loves them. Mildly less upsetting. |

Totally discredits the entirety of what he’s trying to say, which is very reasonable otherwise. |

And how did this get into downtown Ottawa? https://i.ibb.co/gWLyFgJ/sherp.gif |
The chicken part was rhetorical but yes, agreed, it’s a Trudeau protest not a freedom one. |
Protest rolling into Toronto right now and more protests across Canada this week including Vancouver and Victoria, all the whole provinces start announcing lifting restrictions completely, and even Bonnie seemed to back track on her June 30th outlook https://i.imgur.com/JLDQQoC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/3e0usHy.png Bloomberg article: Quote:
While I’m not gonna be joining and convoys, as in that article said, 54% of Canadians polled think it’s time to end the BS. I definitely echo the sentiment that enough is enough. We’re going on 683 days of restrictions for those counting |
Counter protests also happening across Canada on the 5th. But they are smaller because most people have a life. https://www.facebook.com/groups/Vict...4768213029682/ |

What can you not do today that you did in January 2020 besides going into a business without wearing a mask? |
I’m killing my battery flashing that vac pass bro |
^ You should tattoo it on your forearm... problem solved |
I wouldn't complain if we ended the passports and masks tomorrow. |
Rebooked my May 2020 trip to May 2022. First international trip in almost 2.5 years. Feds just need to nix the return PCR test and then I'll be golden. Keep the vaxx mandate though, I don't want to be flying with no crazies. |
