It's absurd and terrible to sit within -- it's like you're in a little box sitting beside people, like a damn bubble. Completely destroys the pub vibe, and the ability to have a random chat with people sitting beside you, it's all just very odd. Covid has turned us all crazy, seriously.

And that ends up being the issue in lots of altercations. The person asking the other to mask up, or a passport, or seeing dividers everywhere, social distancing protocols, etc; some of the time the vendor/store/restaurant/bar employee enforcing it might think it's dumb too or not even care really but isn't quite ready to fight for that freedom and wants a pay check and would rather just keep it moving but joe freedom fighter picks THAT instance to make a point about tyranny. Pick your timing and who you are battling with. Sheesh. It comes down to a humanity choice rather than a freedom fighting choice. You can fight for freedom in other ways without hurting the average worker.

No matter what you believe, understand that others who even may believe in your cause too are just trying to get paid and live life. Sticking it to those people in the name of change is just backwards and feeds into the division.

It's a little too doomsday. They can absolutely "do something about it" but the concern is it becoming open warfare in the city and the collateral damage. I do agree that they are waiting to see how it goes because if they go ballistic on them it'll just allow the group to gain more traction and drag out the more extreme people hiding in the shadows.

I have no doubt that they can call in the military and take these guys out an less than a day. It's not something they want to do after all the things that has happened in the states, and the high profile protests and incidents that made headlines in HK.
