Well, went to get some mini donuts at the PNE today. Yeah, if you're not the patient type, you may not want to go. If you're used to ferry lineups, then this might be alright. Didn't really check to see how long, but maybe an hour? Just like ferry lineups. About six or seven lanes wide. I went at around 2:30. It was the first day, so I'm sure it'll be smoother tomorrow and Sunday. As for the donuts, typical fair food. I can say I got mini donuts at the PNE, lol. I think they were hoping for people to decorate their cars and make it a party atmosphere, but it didn't happen. It was totally safe. Nobody got close to you. Tickets/phones were scanned. You receive a colour coded slip of paper you flash at the vendors. They place your bag(s) on a serving tray and hand it towards you. You grab it and wave goodbye. I supported local businesses, got my yearly quota of mini donuts, went to the PNE, saw the show home from the lane, and it was all pretty much painless. EDIT: Just checked the dashcam footage. Just under an hour. After going to Kent's Kitchen in Chinatown, I took Hastings back to Burnaby. When I went past the PNE, there was no line up at the entrance. This was at 4:00 pm. I'm going again today. This time, not at 2 or 3 pm, lol. Getting enough PNE tickets for the family. The donuts are awesome cold, btw. Breakfast of champions, man - not! EDIT 2.0 (Saturday morning): I thought I'd be smarter and go at 12:30. I misjudged traffic a bit (went to Trout Lake Farmers Market, No Frills Broadway, Costco Downtown, and Kent's Kitchen). I had two of my sons with me, so they wanted to do our regular weekly shopping. Anyway, all those places were no lineups, in and out type of ordeal. I arrived at the PNE at 12:00 noon. 6 cars were already in the driveway and gates were closed. I didn't want to block the driveway, so I came around to wait on Hastings Street. I lost a grand total of two parking spots just going around one block. Not bad, right? Five minutes later, more cars line up behind me. They opened the gates at 12:30. I got the donuts at around 12:50. Went around to head back home. OMFG! The line up on Hastings was past Cassiar. WTH? Like, WTH? Two to three hours worth, is my guess. I made the right choice. I don't know, man. I guess you paid for it, so might as well stay in the lineup. I can see someone suggesting getting some traffic control set up for Sunday. Have people wait in line at the side streets and have a cop stopping people from getting into the lineup at Hastings Street - have them go around at Renfrew. Bus stop nearby was plugged up. I guess the organizers didn't see this coming? It's the first time they've done this sort of thing. Plus it's a weekend. |

^Like my garden in spring................. everything looks dead after a cold winter, but from the ashes (snow in this case) comes new life. Three or four years ago, one of my neighbours decided to prune the plants in the backyard. I never asked him to, but he felt I needed some help. My wife used to do the gardening, and I was pretty much useless around the garden back then. Well, one of my bushes that used to produce really good looking greens for use in flower arrangements for ceemetery visits. died from too much pruning. I was so mad at the guy, but let it go. After I told him he destroyed my daughter's vegetable garden, he figured out he had overstepped the boundaries of being a helpful neighbour. I think it was his wife that gave him supreme shit. Anyway, he's very old. Well, long story short, the plant this year, came back. Wow! After businesses go by way of the Dodo Bird, others will pop up to replace and fill the void. Hopefully nice one's and not weeds. |
Update on donuts........... https://bc.ctvnews.ca/overwhelming-d...vent-1.4952672 Extended to Monday because it was so successful. I'm still trying to finish them. Will have to freeze them, lol. Even with the line up and all, it was a good experience. Bailey's Strawberry and Cream helps with eating of donuts. A bit of me dies each time I spell doughnuts the amurican way. Just noticed, CTV News spelled it the Canadian way. Yay! |
I started working full-time again in downtown after a 2.5 month hiatus. It's clear that there are way more crazies wandering the streets and the back alleys. Is there a specific reason why? It can't just be me not noticing them before... Dirty shirtless people yelling and screaming at Breka entrance. More empty bottle stealers, dumpster divers, etc. |
A while back a few people were saying they thought their marriage wouldn't survive this. How are y'all holding up? |
I drove by the Coquitlam IKEA and saw tonnes of cars turning into the parking lot. I think they’re open now. Just checked the website and they are. Cot dam. |
Costco Brighton Avenue has Lysol Wipes. I bet Willingdon does, too. Call. Limit is one. $4.00 off. $15.99 for 6 |

My wife has been going back once or twice a week and homeless crazies just sitting in front of businesses trying to open then freak out/attacking people who try to tell them to leave Downtown gonna be a mess for a while |

Is Willingdon a shot show or can you just walk in? Going there in 45 or so |

Funny thing is, I never get harassed that much by the homeless. They probably sense that I used to be in their shoes at one point? It's hard to explain. The way one carries themselves when close to them matters, I guess. As an asian, it's not polite to look at someone in the eye. With homeless people you need to look them straight in the eyes and give a stern look without intimidating too much, then give them the head nod - "It's all cool," kind of thing. Or, you look like Fliptuner and they know better than to mess with you. |
costco willingdon is better these days maybe a short line-up several minutes 10am weekdays |
Went today around 1115, about 10 minutes or so to get in. They are great, giving out masks and hand sanitizer wiping down buggies at the door Of course while I was there 99% of the people all took a mask and wore it and then there’s two of the most stereotypical “Karen’s” not wearing them :/ |
Costco willingdon has been ok lately. I usually hit that place up on a weekday around 7pm. Line looks long but it's moving. Roughly 5-10mins wait. Don't know about the weekends. I always avoid going to any Costco during those days. As for Lysol wipes, Those things are harder to find than a unicorn:okay: |
You just have to call them and find out when the next shipment is. Sometimes you get a really nice person On the other end who will tell you when it is expected to arrive. It being on sale is an awesome bonus. |
Oh, oh, oh................. just remembered. On the way back from picking up my KN95’s from the RS member who’s selling them, I drove by Duffin’s Donuts. THEY’re OPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ripped by and saw a person going in. I’m so going there tomorrow, man. Cot Dam. Angel Cream, here I come! |
Jobless + exercise to stay sane... I've lost 15 lbs. Before work, I would have no time to exercise, now I have all the time in the world with nothing to do. So time to exercise. Rule one, find purpose and do shit. You can't apply every day every hour. Get out of the house. Rule 2, go exercise. You will start eating like a bum and just munch on shit all day long. I'm burning 4400 calories exercising... now i just need ot find a job.....FML |
Yeah it's really easy to just keep eating simply out of boredom with being locked up at home, got to keep yourself busy, excessive spring cleaning! |
Can’t wait for the bf to go back to work so I can deep clean the apartment in peace lol |

I've been cooking a lot to try out some new recipes - some for fun, some intended for meal prep for when things pick up again. It's also been a great bonding activity with family. |

OMFG! Had a very productive morning. Went to Valley Bakery. They're celebrating Hats Off Day, without the street being shut down. A lot of the businesses along the strip are having specials. Valley had their cinnamon sticks on sale. Win! I then went to Duffin's Donuts. Man, I had forgotten how good their donuts are. They just made the Angel Cream just before I got there. Eclairs, Apple Fritters, NICE!!!!! I also forgot they have that Fritou place next door. So much win. I also went to Kim's Mart. Sakuraya upstairs. They had frozen, salted, pre-sliced sockeye salmon on sale. Limit of 5. I usually get sockeye salmon at wholesale prices, but this is salted already and sliced. I just finished cooking them. 15 minutes in room temperature water to thaw, line 'em up on a foil lined cookie sheet and broil till the skin is crispy (internal temp 160 minimum). So easy and so good. Even made some sushi rice. If I had more time, I would make some Okai or chagai (traditional rice porridge made with green tea.) Okai on cold rice and Shiomon. Comfort food. Will make any non asian turn Japanese, Gulolol. Spoiler! |
Okay, I take some of what I said back. After having a few pieces of salted salmon, I realized the salted salmon was weak sauce. Next time, Imma gonna sprinkle some sea salt on the salmon before putting it in the oven. Also, found a few bones in the salmon. Not a couple, but a few. Just in one of the pieces. The really thin ones. You pay to have the salmon filleted and clear of any bones. anyway, it's cheap. I can live with a few bones here and there. The salmon didn't look like the sockeye from the Fraser. Most likely Alaskan. Can't tell unless whole fish was there. Anyway, still a good deal. BTW, I'm watching Dumpsters, Dives, and Drive-Ins with Guy Fieri. I thought the shows were reruns, but it's recent. Social distancing and shit. Nice! These featured restaurants and cooks send the ingredients in to Guy where he follows the instructions given live by the chefs via video conferencing. It's quite good. Anyway............. Food Network, ftmfw! I'm now craving Arancini because of this show. Damn. I wAnder if Cioffi's is open tomollow............. I like theirs more than Bosa. |
