Holtby will be exposed in expansion draft

Durrann 10-09-2020 10:50 AM

Will be interesting next season!

bobbinka 10-09-2020 10:50 AM

I cant believe Matt Murray got 6.25mil/yr. I hope Markstrom gets something similar from whichever team he goes to

68style 10-09-2020 10:55 AM

Ottawa literally can't do anything right, I feel so sorry for their fanbase LOL

BlackV62K2 10-09-2020 11:06 AM

Watch Markstorm goes to a division rival team and plays lights out against the Canucks everytime....In b4 40+ save games against the Canucks. Edit: We need to be able to put up that many shots first lol FeelsBadMan

but you'll know we'll score at least 1 goal against him cuz he always has a hard time holding on or getting a shutout

PiuYi 10-09-2020 11:15 AM

this is weird.... first day of free agency and I ain't mad...

if he signs for like 5/5 or 6/4 I think we fucked up

It's possible though if he held out too long and ran out of options right? think GMJB wanted to get it done right off the bat, so if marky said he wants to weigh his options GMJB's making the offer to holtby

murd0c 10-09-2020 11:29 AM

I find it funny everyone is getting pissed off with Benning for not making moves when people have been pissed at him for making moves in the past. I think the moves he hasn't made are the moves he should of so that works out in my books.

Sw0op 10-09-2020 12:12 PM

6x6 for Marky

decent but not for the Canucks with Demko on the wings and expansion draft coming up.

6thGear. 10-09-2020 12:28 PM

I'm glad Hotlby is only signed for 2 years. That'll leave breathing room come Petey Hughes and Boeser(if he's still around) when their contracts are up. Marky wanting term wouldve fucked us in a few years

bobbinka 10-09-2020 12:32 PM

6 x 6 is too much for us with a flat cap. I could see giving him 6 mil if it was for 2 years, but he would have never taken that.

Obsideon 10-09-2020 12:36 PM

Everyone's knee jerk reaction on the other websites was amusing.
"OMFG what a downgrade! Fire Benning!"
"Holtby sucks I'm not watching Canucks next year!"
"Lundqvist only got $1.5m wtf our team is doomed!"

Obsideon 10-09-2020 12:41 PM

I like that this car forum actually has more sensible Canucks fans than the dedicated sports boards lol ...
6x6 is way too much and depending on Demko's development we could have been strapped with another Luongo/Schneider situation.

68style 10-09-2020 12:41 PM

^
Really? The comments on the sportsnet article were highly complimentary... even one guy said “I’ll use any excuse to throw Benning under the bus but even I like this move”

bobbinka 10-09-2020 12:46 PM

I only wish we could've offloaded a few bad contracts for OEL. If he pulled that off, he would've been a god. Cause what are we going to do now to get rid off Loui and/or Sutter?

If only OEL can reconsider his self imposed deadline of October 9th to be traded. I think Arizona GM would still listen to Benning’s
Offers.

Ger rid of that Swedish meatball, Benning!!

I love Markstrom, but not for 6x6. Have to spend the money elsewhere. Holtby saves us $1.7 million annually over the next two years compared to Markstrom. Valuable money that can maybe re-sign Tanev??

the deadline didnt mean anything really...the hold up was the prospect involved...ARZ wanted Demko/Podko/Hoglander (i think)...and we werent willing to give up either so they can remove the deadline and keep negotiating but means no difference if we aren't giving up those 3 guys

It does if Arizona caves and says, alright we'll take Lind instead, but OEL says nope, too bad, time's up.

yea how did that work out this morning..?

they dont really have any motivation to deal him this season...his $$ owed this year is like 4M or something...its next year where it gets high

Liquid_o2 10-09-2020 01:14 PM

OEL said he won't move after today. He has NTC and instituted the deadline. So the deal is likely dead in the water.

it didnt happen this morning. we know this. The point is that if the deadline didnt exist, things could still happen now or going forward. I don't know why this needs to be argued. Free agency changes the landscape.

They don't have the motivation to deal him this season? :rukidding:

whitev70r 10-09-2020 01:44 PM

Anyone know why the Oilers were out on Markstrom? They could use a steady goalie.
