I am totally fine with giving up a 2nd rounder and Madden for Toffoli, but he has to be re-signed. Looks really bad as a rental. My prediction? Canucks are going to dump all their money into Markstrom and lose valuable pieces such as Toffili and Tanev making us very thin on depth. Our 3rd and 4th lines are sinking us. |

I honestly think the Canucks should take MAF from Vegas since they are going to take half of his salary. It would be perfect at only 3.5 a year and he's still a great goalie and will help with Demko becoming the #1 in the next couple of years. |

Sutter, Benn, and Baertschi come off the books after next year. So will Ryan Spooner's buyout. That is about $10 million right there. Hopefully Ferland either retires or goes on LTIR and give us more wiggle room. That will hopefully open up enough $$$ to sign Petey and Hughes to their contracts. |
Our draft pick, Joni Jurmo, is Brock and Petey combined. Superstar confirmed. https://i.redd.it/vwc5duet2qr51.jpg |
No QO for Stecher. Markstrom could be headed to the Oilers. Wouldn't mind either on the Leafs. |
love the heart and will Stetcher has but he's too expensive for a 3rd pair guy and his size really limits him...need to move on if we are going to improve |
Benning didn’t qualify in other instances where they re-signed players... I think he will be back |
Stetcher is the perfect #5 guy for our team. Im hoping the reason why were not qualifying him is because were gonna sign him for less..... but apparently no one has any faith in Jimbo to do that |
These other shit deals make not qualifying Troy then offering him another deal such a slap in the face. Like imo Troy is a more useful player than a beagle, Erickson, etc. But you can’t pay him even the qualifying offer because of all the other shit contracts |
many teams arent qualifying their RFAs. that's the world of flat cap. if you qualify them, they can go to arbitration, which means they get even more than the qualifying offer. |
Paying $17.25 million for a group of 4th line grinders on the decline ... le sigh Sutter, Brandon - $4,375,000 Ferland, Micheal - $3,500,000 Baertschi, Sven - $3,366,666 Roussel, Antoine - $3,000,000 Beagle, Jay- $3,000,000 Really biting us in the ass right now. Could really have used that cap to sign the players we really needed while giving the youngsters some sheltered playing time. |
^^ don't forget that Bobby Lu 3 million penalty! I've always had a feeling that Lu knew that would happen to the Canucks, so it was his final dagger to the organization for treating him that way |
That was a coach decision and if treating him poorly means giving him $64 million dollars and making him captain despite how ridiculous it was, well, sign me up for some abuse |

Surprised they didn’t buy out sutter and baerstchi contracts. Maybe the oel trade is coming |
buyout deadline is tomorrow @ 5pm ET...guess we'll know one way or the other about buyouts/OEL by then |
I'm surprised no one noticed JV was given a QO. Stecher as mentioned above was not given one. Now, I wonder if they gave JV the QO so that prospective teams know exactly what they'll have to pay him. With Stecher, there's an outside chance that he could sign for less than what the QO would have been, saving the team some money. Flat cap era, we don't know what the outcome will be just yet. Question is, is GMJB smart enough to have done these things? :lol |

Unless he’s part of the OEL offer.. |
you'd also qualify if the player would have value to other teams, so you could still trade them. JV has value |
If they think JV can be a consistent top 6 forward, they shouldn't be in charge of this team... pretty sure they aren't that dumb. |
NJ puts Schneider on waiver for buyout |
JV was on pace for 42 points and his QO was $1.4M. That’s good value regardless of his other issues. I think he has enough issues that the Canucks will have a good case against him in arbitration should it get that far. Stecher had a QO of $2.325M and he was in the same position as Hutton was. Used as a top 4 dman but really more of a 3rd pair guy. The arbitration award has to be above a certain amount or the team can’t walk away from it, so Canucks didn’t want to risk it. I get it but, as has been said many times, the garbage contracts have forced us to risk good players on the open market. This post season may very well be the peak of the Benning era which is sad af given the high-end talent we now have. Self inflicted wounds. |
