Grabner, 3 good seasons over 10 years since leaving the Canucks, all in contract years, and people still bitch about how we traded him. Dude made Virtanen look like he had the work ethic of the Sedins when he was here.

Hondaracer 10-03-2020 11:57 AM

Never played a prominent role on any team he played for, was never an impact player, was probably overpaid for his contributions after he left the Canucks

One of the few players they let go that worked out

Pretty interesting to hear the take on free agency and all these owners wanting to dump salary. Canucks are in a pretty good position imo because the aqualinis have probably continued to grow wealth during Covid while some other owners in the league have basically lost huge chunks of income

OEL refusing to expand his NTC. Going to be sticking with BOS/VAN. That's some huge bargaining power for us.

Connor McDavid has tested positive for Covid-19

Remember when he was on NYI and posting online about going to McDonalds every night hahaha

The NHL draft is today at 4pm.

68style 10-06-2020 08:11 AM

I have trouble seeing us keep Markstrom and Demko... Markstrom if he takes a hometown discount is going to want a full NTC for 5 years minimum and Demko isn’t going to do the backup thing for 5 years... and Markstrom’s value is even higher after the Lehner deal he’s the only super legit #1 available...

Unpopular move for fans and it makes me sad, but I almost feel like we have to say bye to Markstrom and sign a vet backup. People don’t trust Demko yet despite his playoff performance but who the hell trusted Markstrom when he got here from Florida either?

bobbinka 10-06-2020 10:43 AM

at this point, he might as well just take Boston off his "list"

Hondaracer 10-06-2020 11:35 AM

Boeser and Louie for OEL

Sw0op 10-06-2020 11:41 AM

not for OEL...for a RH Dman like Ekblad with a lower caphit than OEL yes..

but doesnt matter as we need Boes esp since Toffoli seems like he's gone now

bobbinka 10-06-2020 11:46 AM

Just watch... OEL trade doesnt happen, we can't offload our bad contracts, we can't re-sign our own guys going UFA (Markstrom, Toffoli, Tanev), and then we over pay for other free agents.

:lol

Honestly this seems like the most likely scenario.

I’d give up Boeser for the right player, I’m not sold on him ever since his injury and he’s never really shown he can elevate his game. Clearly he isn’t anywhere close to the level of EP or Hughes but I’m just not sold on him long term with what I’ve seen. And given his bridge deal I think there is value there to other teams

Vegas is apparently attaching a 2nd rounder to a 50% retained cap to get rid of fleury. If i were JB, i bet my money on Demko and Fleury if Markstrom won't go down on his price.

Save $1 mil at least vs Markstrom.

Id do that aswell as long as we get to exposed MAF in the expansion draft. Its a win win for us

spoon.ek9 10-06-2020 01:11 PM

MacEwan just re-signed for 2 years ($825k per). I like it, he's got some good potential.

MAF has a limited NTC, so you need him to agree to everything be able to accomplish that.

highfive 10-06-2020 01:33 PM

NTC is ok right?

it's just a nmc that prevents it?

pastarocket 10-06-2020 03:12 PM

Toffoli is gone. He is going to free agency.

Alex Trebek is one of the greatest Canadians who has ever lived. I hope him all the best in his fight against stage 4 cancer.

68style 10-06-2020 10:32 PM

Fuck what were we doing giving up assets getting a rental like Toffoli our cap situation wasn’t exactly a mystery

Alpine 10-06-2020 11:07 PM

And paying 3M for 3rd/4th line/PK grinders comes to bite us in the butt again.
