And a duck bill spoiler too 🦆

I'll admit, the Neptune blue looks pretty sick compared to Subaru's WRB colour

This is still my favourite FRS / BRZ comment ever in history:

jaaagman 01-02-2022 10:01 PM

I was pricing out a base GR86 and BRZ... why on earth is the base MT Subaru model $2k cheaper??

jcmaz 01-07-2022 02:10 PM

The pricing between the Subaru and Toyota doesn't make sense...

I was told by my buddy at Toyota that the overall production of GR86 will be 30% manual and 70% automatic units. No idea on the Subaru side tho.

This popped up in my "targeted advertising". Has this been posted yet? Thought it a pretty neat ad.

There’s a silver GR86 in the showroom at Richmond Toyota, looks much better in person I think. I was impressed.

JDMDreams 01-08-2022 12:08 PM

I saw a blue one last night, not sure if Toyota or Subaru, the tail lights look pretty good, but it kinda looks like a modded 86

twitchyzero 01-08-2022 03:03 PM

he probably got paid to say it, and nonexistent rear legroom and fake engine noise aside, i think this is something we'll miss not too far into the future

Does the silver have a blue-ish hue to it? I have to say its growing on me, even though Neptune blue and white are still my favorite. I'd like a base 86, but the BRZ base is cheaper for some odd reason...

Hoping to check out the GR86 sometime this month.

68style 01-09-2022 06:02 PM

It actually looked darker than usual silver, not blue at all though at least to my eyes

LP700-4 01-09-2022 07:53 PM

Was told by my dealer this will be a pretty limited car for this year at least. Under 10 units expected to arrive to them for the year and they are one of the bigger dealers in GVR.

Also something like 70% auto 30% manual production split for the Toyota WTF

Sold orders for 22MY BRZ are closing Thursday January 13, 2022 at 5:00 PM EST.

The launch of the 2022 MY BRZ has been a driving success, selling 1,579 vehicles through the 1st three months of sales ending in December 2021, and setting a new all-time monthly sales record in December with over a thousand BRZ’s sold!

Adding to this success was an exceptionally high number of sold orders, indicating demand is consuming our expected supply well into the future. Sold orders have reached the point where they have nearly consumed our expected supply for the ’22 model year. To increase the odds that we can deliver on the orders already promised, and to reduce the odds that we do not have to cancel any orders already created, we must close Sold Orders for the ‘22MY BRZ.

As you know we are continuously working with our colleagues at SBR to procure more inventory for the US market. If we are able to increase BRZ production in the future, we will work to re-open the sold order system at that time.

Interesting, Subaru America has closed their ordering books for 2022 due to high demand.

I wonder what the situation is here in Canada.

My Toyota dealer invited me to test drive the GR86 base in automatic today.

It snowed the other day in Toronto and it's been -11 to -18 these past few days, so you can imagine that a lot of roads are frozen and snow removal hasn't been a super high priority. Fastest I was able to take the GR86 was 60km/h until Peel Region Police caught up to me, flashed their lights and told me to slow down. That was pretty much the end of the test drive and we went back.

Overall, I quite enjoyed the car but wished the weather had cooperated. They'll invite me back in the summer when they get a manual one in. Would I get a GR86? Yes. Right now? No.

Edit: Pictures added. The car looks so much better in person than on the Toyota website.

Saw a Halo this weekend. Wow it looks very nice, like a mini-NSX.

$40k GR86 or $50k used CTR… what would you choose? In the CTR, I can put 2 child seats in the back.

If you can get one... :okay:

Just drive the XRS. Or we can trade keys for the day when it's nicer out. E46 M3 for CTR. You can test if you can fit the child seats and everything LOL

Saw this on Calgary FRS FB page. 50whp more than older gen and even at shitty Alebrta elevation. This car is gonna rip at the track

EvoFire 02-07-2022 07:30 PM

I assume 164whp on the same dyno? Even not 100% same conditions, 50hp is nothing to sneeze at.

Kayci 02-08-2022 07:41 AM

I read somewhere a full bolt on (i/h/e + tune) was comparable to a stock 2nd gen.

As someone who owned the 1st gen (2016), almost everything about the 22+ is nicer. They really did put in some work and elevated the feel of the car. The buttons, knobs, overall feel of the interior feels more premium. Did I mention the torque?

Really only a few things that irk me: the ugly rear end, trunk opening is slightly smaller, the seat still squeaks near the seatbelt area, and the suspension is a tad bit soft compared to the 16. It does make for the perfect DD though. No major problems being reported yet.... but the biggest one is probably the turn signal sporadically not working / blinking super fast.

Overall though, I think most people will enjoy the 22+. Not to mention the fact that something like this still exists. Rwd, lightweight, affordable.

bcrdukes 02-08-2022 07:57 AM

The turn signal piece would be a real VI magnet in Vancouver.

I don't think you car reach 210+whp on the 1st gen without an ace header and E85 tune. So the new motor is way more powerful

twitchyzero 02-08-2022 08:41 PM

interesting to see Supra, this and the new Si underrating the figures

wouldn't it move more units to report real numbers? it's not japan 278hp agreement days

in other news...stripper models for race teams: 16" steelies, no airbags, less sound deadening, extra cooling and a cage

Well Supra underrating numbers might have something to do with BMW. BMWs numbers have always been underrated.

213whp on a Dynojet? Did they do SAE correction and pull with 1:1 gear ratio? I think that's a little too high stock. And I doubt they underrated their numbers.

Not sure but the car has been dyno-ing at over 200whp in many videos. And if they did a back to back baseline with the 1st gen then final number doesn't matter as much. It's 50whp more that the 1st gen so will feel that for sure.
