Tempering my excitement for power...

320icar 11-11-2020 09:15 PM

I’m calling it, same motor as before.

BlackV62K2 11-11-2020 09:39 PM

Inb4 another gutless motor

twitchyzero 11-11-2020 09:52 PM

spy shots look like the same chassis
should just ship a version from factory with manga decal on the sides

on a serious note, at least Manuel can be had

bcrdukes 11-11-2020 10:48 PM

No guys, it's getting an Atlantic-spec 4A-GE :troll:

Car & Driver was saying it might be the 2.4 turbo motor for 250hp...... but were also expressing fear it could be the NA 2.4 at 217hp

AzNightmare 11-11-2020 11:23 PM

Could they go with 2 trims?
boosted and N/A?

Of course they could. They could do a lot of things. Will they? I doubt it.

Even the massive new forester only has one option of 182hp n/a 2.5. What a joke for a vehicle meant to haul a family camping

Was kind of surprised when Subaru dropped the XT trim on the Forester.

But some how the Outback gets the XT trim.

It's the new 2.4/2.5 or whatever is in the current subbies.

twitchyzero 11-12-2020 07:24 AM

if you want turbo they want you to get a wrx
more profit and no royalty to Toyota
I think a simple light rwd should stay NA they just need to up the torque a bit without the dip

99% of cars don't get used for what they're meant to do though. They putter around in traffic with 1 person in them.

JDMDreams 11-12-2020 08:54 AM

Just get a 400z

It'd be ideal if they were to go that route. But then I dunno what the take rate would be between the 2 trim levels.

Also, from a marketing point of view, it'd make more sense if they only release the NA version first, without any additional commitments to the turbo version. And then in the following year, release the turbo version, or at least announce it. That is kind of what Toyota did with the Supra, except that Toyota released the high spec 3.0L I6 car first, and the turbo 4 later.

Realistically, assuming the 2nd gen BRZ isn't afflicted with the same mid range power dip malaise that the FA20 had, 217 hp with a decent torque curve should prove to be adequate. Of course, nobody wants to be "just adequate".

320icar 11-12-2020 12:06 PM

You’ll piss a lot of people off that way

XT's were vastly outsold by the NA models in the USA. Locally, I'd say it's an even split, but Vancouver is its own bubble.

Wonder if it's still a gutless wonder

Actually, my guess is that the 2nd gen BRZ is gonna crack 2900 lbs even if it were in NA form.
