That may be true for quite a few of their vehicles...

but the GR86 is built by Subaru in the Gunma plant... so it appears Subaru is just making it for themselves first... perhaps cuz Toyota waited so long to do their announcement?

twitchyzero 10-06-2021 11:24 PM

supra is also contracted out

rav4 phev had massive demand even before parts shortage

still, end of the month is pretty amazing..probably helps it has mostly the same parts as the previous generation

Waitlist for Supra is 1 year rn

Waitlist for RAV4 Prime is 3 years

LOL

I wonder if it's affecting Toyota more heavily, because they depend on very efficient operational processes. They were the first to implement and perfect JIT (just in time) and Kaizen to that effect. That usually means they only had enough raw materials to cover what they need at that point in time and expected a backorder at their regular interval.

I thought Toyota has abandoned JIT for some of their processes as it no longer is as efficient as they original imagined and that's why they were actually only recently started getting hit by the shortage.

The hybrid, prime, and Sienna shortage has been a thing since before pandemic. Sienna waitlist was already 6 months in 2019.

If you ask the right dealer the times are way less. OpenRoad told me 2-3 years before I could even think about getting a GR86. Asked around and I now have deposit for the 2nd allocation for another dealer with orders submitted to Toyota already.

OpenRoad is the biggest store so makes sense they get the most cars but their customer base and demand must be even bigger.

68style 10-11-2021 07:16 PM

^ Did they give you pricing though?

The contracts are a bit shit because they won't commit to pricing even if they do have a MSRP, leaves the window open for them to gouge. Don't be surprised if they try to fuck around with you.

LP700-4 10-11-2021 10:33 PM

That was discussed with the sales and we agreed deposit and order based on MSRP. If Toyota Canada decide to pull a fast one and make it more expensive than the BR-Z then such is life hahaha.

I don't think dealers can add "adjusted dealer markup" to a brand new car like they can in the states here. Used cars are a different story.

68style 10-11-2021 10:46 PM

The Subaru contract my friend was gonna sign said that too… but there was a clause on it that said pricing was only valid for 1 week after the paperwork was signed… he got that redacted after I pointed it out to him.

Dealers can install accessories to the vehicle to inflate the price. Just add a Toyota dash cam, floor mats, Cargo net, etc and then you have an overpriced GR86

twitchyzero 10-12-2021 06:48 AM

like wheel locks you can decline the addition

ok it's silly to argue $5 over brand new car purchase but i noticed they tack on tire recycling fee for a spare when many cars dont even come with it :alone:

jcmaz 10-27-2021 09:53 AM

Anyone else on the fence to place a deposit on the new BRZ or GR86? I placed a deposit for the GR86 in Neptune Blue but I have second thoughts... maybe I should wait until they launch a performance pack with factory Brembos and upgraded suspension.

They said the car should be here in 6-8 months.

Looks like prices for the GR86 were announced today:

6MT Base / Premium: $31,490 / $34,490
Auto Base / Premium: $33,890 / $36,890

For reference, Subaru Canada pricing is:

6MT Base / Sport Tech: $29,495 / $32,495
Auto Base / Sport Tech: $31,895 / $34,895

My question, for essentially the same car, how is the pricing 2k more for the GR86?

Edit: Here's the Toyota press release: https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/abou...e-december-1st

EvoFire 10-29-2021 09:23 AM

I thought the GR was supposed to be the slightly cheaper one too

320icar 10-29-2021 10:32 AM

And let’s not forget Toyota usually offers garbage finance rates on anything that isn’t the Corolla, so you might get a better rate at Subaru plus a cheaper msrp

bcrdukes 10-29-2021 10:46 AM

Toyota is awful for financing. They have 0% financing on like two models literally right now and I wouldn't be surprised if they were the undesirable models.

trollface 10-29-2021 10:46 AM

Holy shit, did half of RS order a new GR?

JDMDreams 10-29-2021 12:42 PM

No but after watching this, sort of want one with short final gears and a super charger

Last time I looked, the final gear will hit you for close to 2k all in.

jcmaz 10-30-2021 07:51 PM

Looks like my GR86 is supposed to arrive in the middle of December

Which dealership did you order it from?

This one is an interesting one but I'm iffy on dipping my toe into the waters as it is a first model year.

trollface 11-01-2021 01:22 PM

Early adopters always get fucked. Never pay to be the guinea pig.

JDMDreams 11-01-2021 02:40 PM

Lol it's also worth the least when you try to sell

twitchyzero 11-01-2021 03:06 PM

it's not a clean sheet design, the motor and body are already well-documented
