because it lowers overall damage claims and costs for the auto manufacturer to have the final "delicate" or regional parts done at their destination. In canada case, we need DLR's WWL installs all of those, or activates them, depending on make or model.

The dealer only really rips off the white sheet and detail the car. Thats the extent of their PDI. Most of the hard work is done at the vehicle depots thats right next to the offramp ports.

There are actually two sizes of the spoiler that appear on the circuit edition demo/promo cars. The demo cars (hotlaps, influencer test drives, etc.) appear to have the low profile one while the car show/promo ones on display have the large one. Just some general observations, but production Circuit edition should have the large one anyways.

Oh that's interesting.

So besides wings, i'm guessing things like skirts and nice wheels too?

yeah they add packages that you ordered. Usually this happens on more mass produced cars like the ratrollas / camrys / Suv's etc. higher end cars comes pretty much complete with little to no PDI required.

Thus if you dont want the average WWL worker (who gets paid less than 50k a year) ripping apart your brand new car, either order base, or buy something a bit more bespoke. Im talking imports off course, domestic is the same thing but it's done at rail ramps next to the factory

LOGISTICS !!!! fun

Yes! A lot of your fit and finish on imported vehicles can be directly attributed to these PDI guys.

p.s. i dont actually work in this business. i work for the ports, but ive toured their facilities a few times

I recall the majority of the crap they do are interior related.

programming the GPS, filing fluids, enabling infotainment, floor mat install, etc

And yet you're paying the dealer $2,000 for PDI in Canada... and another $400-600 in paperwork fees.

We get so worked on those fees in Canada too... like for a GR86 in USA the freight+PDI fee is $1,025 USD... in Canada it's $1,820 CAD... getting taken for an extra $500 above currency exchange for the same service.

The big wing from the promo stuff isn't going to be on any of the production cars, at least not yet. My guess is it'll show up on another special edition later on.

because of shipping volume. USA takes 10x more additional vehicle imports than Canada. the more you ship, the cheaper it is per car.

But it’s the same thing across the board on cars made in North America or even Canada

oh yeah thats straight up robbery. I saw that too when i was leasing my green ratrolla built in Kentucky had the same freight & PDI costs as a 4runner (at that time was built in japan).

They said its to make it easier for consumers but its straight profits in their pockets.

Not true. They also do exterior add-ons (wheels/tires, tpms, battery charging, side mirrors, alignments, heated seats).

Not entirely true. WWL workers get paid pretty well tbh ($28-40/hour). Base or top of the line, they're all getting ridden.

Agreed - I read that for BMWs, any M-performance parts that you order as part of your new car will be installed at the port.

Not that bad then. I saw a posting for their manager job and they were only offering 50-60k. I thought their techs were even worse than that.

Appreciate the insight. It’s a pretty neat industry but it seems not too lucrative vs other port industries.

Management is another monster. They're severely underpaid and shit on constantly. It's suffocating being on that side.

Definitely not the most lucrative port side, but still lucrative in its own right.
