This Christmas, something has weighed on me. My heart has tried to endure but it cannot, and I need to get it off my chest.

Holy fuck.

I've been spelling among wrong my entire freaking damn life. I actually thought amoung was the British way of spelling among. I literally thought among was the American version of it and amoung was the British spelling. And when autocorrect always underlines amoung, I just figure the auto correct is just an American version..

Holy fukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk kkkkkkkkkkkkkk. I am legit embarassed.

And thank you for pointing that out to me.. I need to cry in the corner tonight...mother fukkkkkkkkker

donk. 12-26-2023 08:13 PM

Grammar is for the weak

Please continue to spell it as amoung to trigger all the grammar nazis on this foroum

bcrdukes 12-26-2023 08:27 PM

You need to start a spelling disparity among your friends thread.

Edit: Should it be "amoung" your friends? :troll:

Oh okay I start first!!

We had a friend who verbally mangles the spelling on his verbs:
Hey man, where'd Carl go?
"He went-ded over there."
Yeah? What'd he do there?
"He play-ded a DVD."
He played a DVD?
"Yeah. Yeah. He play-ded it."

He can say it the regular way just fine, he just prefers saying it this way. I think he works for the government now.

And there's this other guy who plays fast and loose with apostrophes:

How many meatballs should we pick up?
"Probably 50 meatball's will do it."
Ok. Why do you like meatballs so much?
"Something about it's texture."

Would I say spelling drives our friendship apart? Yeah, I'd say it does. So that's a no on income, but a very yes on spelling.

Badhobz 12-27-2023 02:04 AM

Government ?! Say no more

Sometimes deception is a mirage, masquerading as disparity. I know this has already been touched on, but I coincidentally experienced this over Christmas.

My brother leased a Kia Forte GT-Line in 2022 for $620 / month for 5 years. After his wife got sick from cancer this year, money became super tight so he had to offload this car to save that expense. He ended up convincing my dad to take over (4 years remaining). When he asked my brother what he'll do for transportation, my brother said he'll use the wife's car for now and probably buy a cheap shitbox in the future.

Fast forward to Christmas day and he shows up in a 2024 Hyundai Kona Ultimate in Meta Blue. While that technically is a shitbox, it's not exactly a frugal spend.

So now my 71 year old dad is stuck with a POS lease on a POS car while being unsure how much longer he can continue driving.

When you love and care for someone, manipulation is like carbon monoxide. You don't know it's there until it's too late.

twitchyzero 12-27-2023 11:07 AM

is dad actually showing signs of slowing down and not being able to drive?

still crappy to be stuck in a lease for a Kia in your golden years

That's a POS thing your brother did.

Gerbs 12-27-2023 11:17 AM

Wait, why did he drop off a $30K Kia to buy a $35K Hyundai. Man's regarded

Starting to see a reason behind this income disparity here.. :lol

bcrdukes 12-27-2023 01:28 PM

@GS8 - Sorry to hear about that. Must be really infuriating to deal with.

When I hear stories of that among my circle of friends or family members, it's far beyond an income disparity. It's a personality disparity where you just can't put any amount of money on.

His posture is changing. He has the leaning tower going on. Also, fixed income in 2023 is getting to be Russian roulette style of living.

But he did drive down to Bellingham for shopping for a few days during Black Friday. He still enjoys driving but every time I hear about 'the senior who mistook the gas for the brake and drove into a building', I think a little.

I'm not sure exactly but I do know that lying is an addiction for so many.

Hmm. So what's the play here. Do you ream him out for being a dumbass or is that something you just let slide. I'm pretty sure I would ream him out and then that would fuck up our relationship for a good while.

Gerbs 12-27-2023 03:04 PM

I'd probably pick him up and toss him outta the house like a sim character for that low IQ play. I'd be so disappointed that a family member is that dumb lol

I would have given my brother shit for something like that. Heck I've given him shit for less dumb plays than that. Parents helping is one thing, but shedding one car and turning around to get another one OF THE SAME FUCKING SHIT is another.

Imo to varying extents, everyone lies to themselves. Whether positive, e.g. in the vein of "fake it til you make it". Not-so-great, like rationalizing short-term indulgence as a parasitic drain on long-term success. Or downright destructive, spinning up webs of delusion each more elaborate than the last just to avoid facing the truth that real change takes real work.

And that's fine, we're all human and we make our own choices. Except when it starts fucking up other people, and vulnerable people at that. Then that's hella fucked.

I feel for you: that's a hard situation.

Did your dad need a car? Does he have another car tucked away in the garage? If so, I'd return the Kia and pay the penalty.

whitev70r 12-27-2023 05:16 PM

Father should calculate the full amount of lease (~$37K + buy out price), multiply it by 5x (~$250K), and subtract it from that brother's inheritance. This would be satisfying.

I'm not sure a parent who takes over his shitty son's car lease could be that calculated.

snowball 12-27-2023 08:47 PM

Is this the mandela effect? I swear I read it as "among" since the start and was wondering why he didnt use "amongst"

Badhobz 12-27-2023 09:19 PM

GS how tradition is your family ? If you give your brother (younger I presume ?) shit would that even be well received ? Same with your pops, if he’s super traditional and don’t listen to his kids then he might have to just bite this one since he agreed to help.

Either way. Shit move from your brother. Taking advantage of an old man’s charity.
